Karrier S-Trail Radials with Automotive-Grade Tread

Kenda Karrier S-Trail Tread Vs Standard Tread

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the automotive-grade, computer-generated tread on these Karrier S-Trail radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Karrier S-Trail tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Karrier S-Trail radials are constructed with double steel belts and full nylon plies for increased durability and endurance. The premium rubber compound materials of this tire help disperse heat.

Beveled Stud Holes

Beveled Stud Holes Front and Back

The stud holes on this steel wheel are beveled to ensure that the wheel stays tight against your trailer hub. This also eliminates the need to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Tires & rims arrived the next day after placing the order the night before. I was actually caught off guard as I did not expect them to arrive till Monday. Installed them on the trailer later that day. No surprises and they fit perfectly. Old tires were cracked and the rims were in bad shape. New wheels look great !! Very pleased.

No issues, tires and rims working out very well

- AM35351DX

The tires and wheels arrived ahead of schedule. They fit and worked well over a 6 day, 1200 mile journey. No issues with speed, ran at 80mph for short periods. Checked tire heat at all stops. Ran cool.

- AM35351DX

So far so good, modified and raised fenders to allow for larger Diameter. Took a shake down ride for a few miles, all good. I am expecting long tire life and no issues :-).

- AM35351DX

My order was for a trailer tire and rim. I was looking for a certain tire, that I could use as a spare tire and that matches the existing tires already on the trailer. The tires on my trailer and the one I ordered must of been an odd ball size, no store around me carries it. I was forced to order it online and your company was the one I could find it from.

- AM35351DX

Product arrived as scheduled and was properly inflated. I've taken two trips with this on my pop-up camper, for a total of 200 miles, and they have performed well. I'm glad I purchased this set as a replacement for my old 4-lug wheel/tire combo. I'm very satisfied.

- AM35351DX

Excellent replacement rims: Fit perfectly. The D rating tires were mounted on the rims and pressured. It was a simpletake off the old and slip on the new. Once I drive the first 50 miles, I will make sure to check the lugs and re-tighten if necessary.

- AM35351DX

Great looking tire and rim. The construction and performance specs appear to be excellent. Tires were shipped very quickly for free.

I purchased a pair of these Radial tires after having a blowout with the original bias ply tires that came with my utility trailer. While I could not find an exact size replacement, I purchased these because I wanted peace of mind towing my track day tires and fuel. I did have to modify the fender placement but it was worth it. I knew radial tires have more compliance in the sidewall however, once I towed the first time and understood the feel of the trailer with these tires, all was good.I probably have over 2000 miles on them since I installed and they are still looking like new.

- AM35351DX

Samantha H did a great job helping me get my order straightened out and getting the tires to me in a short tim

- AM35351DX

I bought these to replace the stock 4.8-12 tires on my 2004 Viking pop up camper. I wanted to go radial and a little larger and these fit the bill perfectly.

- AM35351DX

This is what trailer tires should be...Well built, great tread and I now have no concerns on a cross-country trip w/ my galvanized double jet ski trailer.

- AM35351DX

I was very happy with my purchase of three Kenda tires for my motorcycle trailer. I had a bad blowout from my old 2 ply bias ply tires. Everything was packed securely in two large boxes, and nothing was damaged in the shipment. Great job guys will be busing more from you in the future. Great prices and free shipping.

- AM35351DX

New radial tires look great on the trailer. Great price too!

- AM35351DX

First time camper, just bought a used pop up. Original tires were 5.30 X 12 I wanted a better tire if possible etrailer recommend ST145/R12. I asked several questions, all expertly answered so I felt comfortable buying. Just completed my first trip, just under 2400 miles round trip. Tires have been flawless and smooth as silk. Also very recent Mfg. dates on tires.

Read my original comments! Still going strong and dependable.

These are great tires. Huskily built. I feel I can depend on them even when towing over rough terrain.

These wheels and tires are holding up well!!

Product is good and delivery was excellent. Got a day sooner than expected. Tracking is awesome as well

- AM35351DX

Just received these. Am excited to replace the poor performing 4.8 x 12 ply tires originally supplied on my camper trailer. I've had three blow outs in the past four camping trips. My one way distance to a campsite usually exceeds 300 miles and the ply tires just don't hold up. These should be a significant improvement in longevity, ride quality, and as a bonus, load capacity. Will update after a couple of trips.

Ive taken these out on several 700 round trips and they have worked great. Much smoother tow than the bias ply tires, less bouncing, and most importantly no blowouts.

Got it delivered pretty fast for free delivery. Every item was sent correctly and in great shape. 2nd time buying from etrailer and will do so again when I need something. Now I can pull my trailer to buy the lumber to finish my home built trailer.

- AM35351DX

These were the best option for my 2000 Viking Saga 1906. I was happy that etrailer had a radial option and the extra .8” was not a problem. I will be taking long trips and excited to see how this tire will perform. Thanks for the prompt shipping and excellent customer service.

- AM35351DX

Great tires so far. Iv got them on a Jayco Eagle Eagle Summit 10Ft pop up and the trailer towing improved a lot since I switched from the old biased ply tires. Definitely prefer to radial tires.

- AM35351DX

This was my fourth order from etrailer for various items, all of which required calls to customer service for compatibility questions which were handled with confidence and ease. Outstanding service and quick delivery. Very personable, patient and friendly. I call them before anyone else.

I am running these tires on my boat trailer. Perviously, I ran load range C, which I purchased at local stores. The LR-C tires were also bias ply which is more stable in off-road applications, but not ideal for the hi way. I had problems with the LR-C. Including the development of bubbles in the tread and sidewall. These new LR-D tires are steel belted radials designed for the hi way. They are rated for a heavier load. And they are about an inch wider than the LR-C. I purchased these tires as an upgrade for my trailer. They were more expensive, but I feel that they are worth the money.

- AM35351DX

I am upgrading a Holsclaw motorcycle trailer into an off road Adventure Trailer. Soooo, I needed to put bigger tires and wheels on the 4x4 axles. The etrailer size and sorting choices made this really easy to compare prices and applications. Your rep was very patient and helpful in searching for options. I also considered putting a better more common hub on and Heidi walked through that checking on bearing sizes. I also shopped locally and NO ONE, I mean NO ONE could match let alone beat your prices. You are my go to source and I let anyone doing tire/wheel purchases for trailer use etrailer. One negative point. Your return costs are off the scale. Returning an item on my own was half the price. Felt like a sales tool to discourage retuns.

- AM35351DX

Great tire to replace old ones on pop up camper.

- AM35351DX

I bought a used boat and trailer about a year ago. The trailer had 4.80-12 bias ply Load Range B tires. They were in good condition, but considerably under rated for the weight of the boat and trailer. The Kenda Karrier S-Trao; 145/r12 Load Range D tires exceeded the required load, fit the 4 x 4 bolt hole configuration, and were only 0.8 inches larger in diameter than the bias belted tires. Local suppliers had no answers for me, one of them was a boat trailer manufacturer.

At the time the video was made, Kenda hadn't done speed rating testing on the tire, over and above the default figure of 65 mph. Since that time, Kenda has done additional testing and have found that the tire meets the criteria for an M (81mph) speed rating. It is possible to increase the size of the tires on a trailer if you have the additional clearance needed to do so. The benefit of going with a larger size is generally a higher speed rating, greater weight capacity, and a better selection of tires to choose from especially radial ply options. In regards to cons, there aren't many aside form the decreased clearance. Although we don't offer pre-mounted options in the size you need with a radial ply, it doesn't cost much to get them mounted...

This is a very common question. The manufacturers don't balance the wheels/tires at their facility, and we do not have the equipment here to do so. However, in most cases this isn't necessary to balance them because having perfectly balanced tires on a trailer isn't as important as it is on a passenger vehicle because trailers do not have a steer or drive axle. If you wish to have them balanced locally, you can certainly do so, but it's not an absolute necessity. I've linked to our...

If you need a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you would need the part # AM35351DX or for 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern the part # AM31199DX.

  • Replacement Tire and Wheel Needed for 155/80R12 Size Tire
I do have a solution for you, but we unfortunately do not carry a tire size of 155/80R12. We do, however, carry the tire size 145/80R12 which means the tire will be about half an inch thinner and about half an inch less in diameter. One of our most popular options for this size tire on a wheel with a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern is the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel # AM35351DX. This option comes with a load range of D (1,220lbs at 65 psi), has a speed...

  • Can Trailer with 10 inch Bias Ply Tires be Converted to Radial
In the 10 inch trailer tire size there are only bias ply options available. To switch to radial you'd need to bump up to the 12 inch size which would require a new wheel as well like the part # AM31202 for if you have a 5 lug bolt pattern or # AM35351DX for if you have a 4 lug bolt pattern. You'd only lose about 1/2 inch of fender clearance going with the larger size.

Replacing trailer tires around 5 years of age is recommended so you are on the right track.

  • Availability of a 155/80R12 Tire with a Wheel That has a 4 on 4" Bolt Pattern
I have a solution for you, but unfortunately we do not carry any tires in the 155/80R12 size. We do have the size ST145/R12 which is slightly smaller but does come on a wheel with a 4 on 4" bolt pattern. The Kenda Karrier S-Trail # AM35351DX is our most popular option and comes with a 12" white spoke wheel. The load range is D (1,220 lbs at 65 psi) and it has a speed rating of 65 mph. The section width of this tire is 5.7" and the overall diameter measures 21.3". I have linked a...

  • Can 12 Inch Tire and Wheel be Put on Trailer With 206/65-10 Inch Wheels
It is possible you can upgrade your 10 inch wheel with a 206/65-10 tire to a 12 or 13 inch wheel, it just depends on the clearance you have. With trailer tires, the general rule of thumb is you want at least 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your trailer's frame rail. A 205/65-10 tire and wheel combo is 20.5" in diameter and 8.1" wide, so you can use that to determine if a larger wheel and tire will...
