E-Z Lube and Easy Grease-Compatible Hub for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube or etrailer Easy Grease axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Hard to find part (lugs on a 4.75 pattern), accurately described, arrived quickly, fit perfectly. Will definitely work with this outfit again if the need arises.

by:

Product arrive ahead of schedule, put in service, and worked perfectly. I am beyond satisfied. This replaced 5 X 4 1/2 with 5 X 4 3/4 - this is on the trailer, as yet unpainted.

by:

Excellent quality hub from a well known and trusted manufacturer. 4-3/4" bolt circle not as common as most 4-1/2" bolt circle hubs offered by other vendors, but that suited my purposes perfectly. All parts were included, and I would buy this again without hesitation.

Its been a year now since I received these, and am still very satisfied. No problems or issues.

by:

Good wheel hubs complete with all necessary mounting parts. Unfortunately one of the four hubs didn't have the correct grease seal with it. One seal instead of having two sealing lips, only had a single inner seal ring with no tensioner spring. If not for that one grease seal it was a good order, reasonable pricing and very quick shipping.

by:

  • Replacement Idler Hub Assembly for Dexter 8-248 Hub
From what I have found your Dexter 8-248 hub is for a 3,500 lb axle. It uses # L68149 inner and # L44649 outer bearings. The hub has two possible bolt patterns so you will need to choose the correct replacement based on the bolt pattern on your current hub. If your bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2" you need # 84545BX. If your bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4" you need number # 845475UC1. I have attached some review videos along with a helpful article on how to measure bolt patterns for your reference.

The 5 on 4 3/4 bolt pattern is starting to get less and less common, so they are getting a little difficult to find. With that being said, this bolt pattern was generally not used on wheels of this size in the trailer world. If you take a look at the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb Axles - 5 on 4-3/4 # 845475UC1, it will only fit wheels from 13 inches to 15 inches in diameter.
