Most brake controllers stick out and take up knee room, but this one tucks the main unit behind the dash. All you see is a small knob on the console—just 1-7/8" long and 9/16" wide. It looks like a factory switch, not an aftermarket add-on. That single knob handles everything: adjusting brake power, hitting manual override, and showing color-coded alerts. The main control box stays out of sight, so your cab stays clean and uncluttered.

Sand, mud, or steep descents can make towing unpredictable. With off-road mode, you set your trailer brake force where you want it instead of relying only on your tow vehicle. Keep it light in soft terrain so the trailer doesn’t dig in, or turn it up on steep grades so it doesn’t push you downhill. A quick double tap on the knob activates the mode, and the LED glows green when it’s engaged. It’s a smart way to stay steady in challenging conditions.

No more jerky stops or push-pull motion from the trailer. The built-in 3-axis accelerometer senses how hard you’re braking and matches your trailer brakes to that intensity for smooth, even deceleration. It works with trailers that have 1 to 3 axles and supports both electric and electric-over-hydraulic brakes. The result is balanced braking that protects tires, pads, and confidence on every trip.

Wiring a brake controller doesn’t have to be complicated. The included custom harness plugs directly into your existing wiring for a true plug-and-play install—no splicing required. The compact control box can mount almost anywhere within the 3' cable range from the knob. A universal mounting panel helps the dash knob blend right in for a factory finish.

You can count on this controller to perform safely under pressure. It meets or exceeds UNECE R21 and FMVSS 201 regulations for durability and occupant safety. Rated at 25 amps continuous with a 9V–32V output range, it’s ready for both 12-volt and 24-volt systems. It’s engineered to last through tough towing conditions with dependable consistency every time you hit the brakes.

Brad Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the vehicle-specific wiring harness, that will work in conjunction with the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller. These harnesses are going to be great to work with your Tow-Pro Elite in a variety of different trucks and SUVs. Now, make sure that you get your vehicle-specific harness. You're going to want to use our fit guide on "etrailer.com", and that's going to make sure that you get the right harness, and that way your install goes nice and easy.
Included in the REDARC kit, you will find this plugin adapter, and this is going to have these spliced ends, and you're gonna have to tie into your brake signal, your brake output, your power output and your ground. Now, if you are pretty handy with electrical, that's awesome. That's great. You can use this. But I'm the kind of person, plug and play in OEM kind of setup or really nice factory one like this.
This is the vehicle-specific harness. So this ties in directly to our factory tow system, and clips right in, it's got this nice braided sheathing on it, to kind of protect the wires, and then it plugs directly into our module here. So, to save yourself a little bit of headache and time, and make the install go that much smoother, and not have to worry about loose connections, I highly recommend getting the vehicle-specific harness. So this end of the plug is specific to your vehicle. As you can tell, it looks like the factory plug, it fits in perfect, has the locking mechanism, so you aren't gonna have to worry about loose connections happening with your plug, and it's going to make install a lot easier.
And that was a look at the vehicle-specific harness for the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller..

That’s awesome to hear, and that setup looks great too. That Mini Lite behind your Grand Cherokee is a really clean combo. I love hearing how it’s actually performed for you out on the road, especially in those “oh man” moments where things could’ve gone sideways. 12,000 miles without issues says a lot. Really appreciate you taking the time to share that, and the photo too. What kind of trips are you usually taking with it, more long hauls or just getting out on the weekends?

Love this, sounds like you and your brake controller are already best friends Robert =) We’re glad the install treated you well, especially that “set it and forget it” calibration. Hard to beat. And you’re absolutely right about the mounting panel tip. That’s one of those little details that makes the whole setup look factory clean. Also appreciate you calling out the smooth, jerk free braking. That’s exactly what we like to hear. Safe stops mean happy towing.

It works great with no issues. I have a 2015 Chevy Colorado though, not a Honda pilot as the post says.

Pulled my enclosed cargo trailer 4800 miles this past year moving to Texas. Trailer brake still functions perfectly. Im sure it will work with other trailers in the future as I will now sell my 20cargo trailer.

The trailer brake controller still looks great. It works perfectly, although I don’t tow on a regular basis. When I do tow, the controller is easy to use.

Thanks for your review, Eric! It sounds like the installation took a little creativity, but I'm glad the videos and instructions helped you get everything wired up and working properly on your Durango. Thanks for including the photo of your controller setup, too. What are you towing with your Durango?
