Updated 04/18/2025 | Published 04/07/2025

Question:

Hi. You previously helped me with the Redarc Elite for my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I now have a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Id like to get the Redarc Liberty. Can you let me know what Id need? Do you have any installation videos I remember you sharing one back in 2020, but I cannot locate it now. Thanks,

Hello Ronald,

Happy to get you the parts you need. For your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee you are going to want the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller # RED44FR, and if your vehicle came with the factory tow package you can also get the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED77FR for a super easy plu-n-play install.

I attached an install video on a different controller, but skip ahead to 3 minutes and 40 seconds and he will show you where to find the connector.

Did your vehicle come with the factory tow package?

Thank you Kate. I assume the RED77FT will also work with the REDARC Liberty? i don't need the off-road capability of the Elite. That said, I'm now considering the Curt Echo for simplicity.

@RonQ Yes Ron, the # RED77FT will also work with the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness - Dash Knob - Proportional # RED52VR. Honestly, I would go with the Redarc over the Curt. I don't hear any issues with the Redarc but tend to troubleshoot the Curt Echo quite a bit.

Hi Kate. I need a longer Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers RED77FR. Do you offer it? Thanks, Ron

@RonQ I wish they made one, but they do not. Your best bet would be to buy a # RED69FR and connect it to your # RED77FR by cutting the one end off that goes into the controller, and then use butt connectors to connect the # RED69FR so that you can have a longer pigtail.

Thanks. I guess they changed the lengths. The one I bought for my previous Jeep was long enough. This one isn't. I did exactly as you suggested, but I worry about the splices holding. Thanks.

@RonQ I like to put the black shrink wrap over my connectors to give it that extra layer of protection. I just looked it up and it looks like Redarc went from a 36" pigtail to a 12" to 18" pigtail, not sure why they decided to go with that design change but it definitely makes sense why yours is not long enough now.
