  • Clean Chrome Finish: Snap-on chrome housing adds a polished look and protects the light body.
  • Simple 2-Wire Hookup: Power and ground wires make installs easy on any 12 V DC setup.
  • Rugged Build: Polycarbonate housing and lens resist impact for durable trailer use.
  • Road-Ready Compliance: DOT-approved design keeps your trailer lighting legal.

Features to know about

Brighter Illumination with Less Draw: 5-Diode LED Design

This compact license plate light puts out strong, even light from five white LEDs while only drawing 0.054 amps at 12.8V. The LEDs run cooler and use a fraction of the power compared to old incandescent bulbs. They also last up to 50 times longer, so you won’t be swapping out burnt bulbs or dealing with fragile filaments again. The clear lens focuses that clean white light right where you need it for easy nighttime visibility.

Simple and Reliable Wiring: 2-Wire Power and Ground Setup

Wiring this light is straightforward thanks to its two-wire design—black for power and white for ground. It’s compatible with standard 12V DC systems and can be grounded directly to the trailer frame or through the mounting bracket when installed correctly. That means no complicated harnesses or extra hardware, just a solid connection that works every time.

Built to Last: Chrome-Plated, Polycarbonate Housing

The durable polycarbonate construction and snap-on chrome housing add both toughness and style. The housing and clear lens resist cracking and fading while stainless steel mounting ears keep it firmly in place. It’s made for surface mounting with a clean, finished look that holds up well in regular use.

Compact Size for Easy Mounting: Fits Tight Spaces

At 4" wide by 1-3/4" tall and 2-3/16" long, this rectangular light fits neatly where space is limited. Mounting holes are spaced 3-1/4" center-to-center for an easy fit on most brackets. The small footprint makes it simple to add or replace a light without drilling new holes or crowding other hardware.

Dependable for the Long Haul: DOT Compliant LEDs

Each LED in this Optronics light is backed by a lifetime warranty, so you can count on consistent performance trip after trip. It meets DOT lighting requirements for license plate illumination, giving you peace of mind that your setup stays compliant and visible on the road.

by:

good bright license plate light

by:

The design is ok, but the light portion itself is held on by only a thin (very thin) piece of metal as a clip. That part broke after about 100 miles on bumpy gravel roads. I now have it held on with duct tape until I can find a better design.

I needed a replacement for a utility trailer. Other aftermarket lights would require drilling & tapping. This unit actually has a ground wire rather than grounding through the unit body.

It was bought to replace a damaged lamp. Actually a better unit. This one has a ground wire.

eTrailer is a very reputable company. They have excellent customer service, a great line of products, well packaged and quickly shipped.

This replaces the cheap plastic license plate light on a cargo trailer. It has a metal housing, is LED and is constructed much better than the plastic original. However, time will tell how the chrome finish holds up to rust. What was noticed is that there appears to be drain holes at the bottom of the wrap around lens on 3 sides. On the install, I will seal the top and side and leave the bottom for a drain. Unnecessary moisture is not a good thing. Overall a great product.

It has been a year and the trailer plate light is working great. Contrary to my original post, the housing is chrome plated plastic.and was physically an exact replacement. Occasionally, it gets bumped and the lens dislodges, but it is an easy fix with a phillips screw driver. Overall, still worth 5-stars.Paul G. mentioned the right angle mounting causing water intrusion and the weak design. On my install, i noted the possible water intrusion issue and used a small dab of silicone sealer to block the top and side slots. It has not caused a problem. Also, the cargo trailer uses the chassis as a common ground. The white wire can be grounded to the screw that mounts the light to the trailer. The trailer wiring harness white ground is grounded near the hitch

I decided it was time to repair the lighting on a 15 year old trailer due to several being broken, and the rest being very faded. I spent quite a bit of time on etrailer comparing options I finally settled on the 4 diode led's. I was excited to see the difference but was ultimately dissapointed with my decision to swap out the old incandescent with more costly led's as the new led lights put out significantly less light. As u can see in the pictures I did the passenger side first, then I took pics halfway thru. If u look at the driver side with old lights it has alot more light even though it only has only 2 working lights, compared to the 4 on the new side! In the front shot u can see the old on the right is casting 10 times the amount of light on the ground. On the plus side at least the orange is now orange, and the red is red instead of almost clear.

I will say the shipping was very fast, and the the customer service was awsome as always.

by:

Good product but the metal material is very thin and easily bends.

by:

This really illuminates the plate. No more loose bulb issues, that can get me pulled over by the police. I've search for 2 years to find an LED plate light. I'm quite pleased.

by:

Lens is loose and there really is no way to keep it securely clipped in, first bump on the road and it's loose again. Ended up wrapping tape around it or else the lens would have fallen out. I really don't expect it to last very long. I'll order a little more expensive one next time.

by:

Contrary to the appearance in the photo this light is plastic and is poorly built. The description states,"Weather-tight seal w/gasket". The lens doesn't even reach the gasket and there are so many leak points to make the statement "Weather-tight" laughable.

by:

Just installed the light today. Have not yet hooked up trailer to truck so not sure how the light will light up the license plate, but based on testing the light in basement first, I think the license plate light will be way better than what came with the trailer.

by:

Fast shipping and item as described.

As always,... products are great
and all I have ordered so far is well made and looks suburb Changed out my lights for LED and I can't be happier in looks ' the Licence plate light is bright and looks good in the dark

by:

I have a 2010 international trailer. I was unable to find exact match parts so I went to etrailer to find comparable parts. I found a similar license plate light. The holes lined up perfectly and wired easily.

The product plastic came off. The item was made poorly

by:

I purchased all new thin LED marker and license plate lights for my trailer. They look awesome and are very good quality. My order was shipped out quickly and received on time. I would definitely order from etrailer again.

by:

Awesome products! Always appreciate etrailer. Best company I’ve ever worked with. No matter who you get on the phone or email they absolutely bend over backwards to help. Thanks!!!!!

by:

Fast and easy checkout and quick shippi ng.

by:

Better than what I expected. First, the purchase experience on eTrailer was simple, quick and efficient. The LED light fixture is a big improvement over the OEM incandescent unit that came with my trailer. I liked having the long lead wires to work with, too. The LEDs will no doubt out-live the trailer itself! I'd recommend this product if you're looking to upgrade your existing license plate lamp.

At one point I had to run a bead of clear silicone around the base of the lens to keep water out. No issues since then.

This will replace my broken license plate light on my 6x14 enclosed trailer

by:

I recently decided to relocate the license plate on my new 5 X 10 aluminum trailer. It came from the factory with the plate located under the bed of the trailer where lifting the trailer caused damage to the plate and was difficult to see. I purchased the license plate light and began the process of relocation. The light now provides and excellent illumination for the relocated plate, was easy to install, and was very economical to purchase. Attached pictures reflect the finished product installed on my trailer.

Trailer Lights still work great. A nice addition to my enclosed trailer. I would purchase them again if I had too.

I would love to help you upgrade to LED lights on your trailer but unfortunately, trailer manufacturers don't just give us a list with every light on the trailer for situations like this. • How to Install Trailer Light with Two Wires on a Trailer that Only Uses One Wire
Trailer lights that only have one wire are designed to ground through the mounting hardware of the light. If you go to install a light that has two wires you'd then need to take and attach the extra ground wire to the frame of the trailer and it will also ground through the trailer frame like it needs to.

  • Recommended Bracket and Light for Mounting License Plate Vertically on Boat Trailer Fender
I like the suggestion about installing the plate at a 90º angle to the fender. We don't offer a purpose-built plate bracket/lamp that will perfectly fit the radius of your fender, but if you were to bend the plate to conform to the fender use a lamp such as part # LPL41CB and install it next to the plate on the fender it would work pretty well. • Replacing a Rusted License Plate Bracket with a Plastic License Plate Holder on a Cargo Trailer
You can certainly replace the license plate bracket on your cargo trailer. I am guessing the license plate mounting screws are the part that is rusted. • Trailer Lighting Issue After Installing LED-Type License Plate Light on Toy Hauler
Generally a trailer light's ground wire will be white in color, so it sounds like you installed the LED light correctly. LED lights use only a small fraction of the power required by standard incandescent lights, so it is not likely to be an overloading issue; also, there is not usually any issue mixing LED and standard bulbs. I do not see any way that the trailer would be able to affect the Tundra's instrument cluster (let alone its traction control); I do not think these issues are related. First...

Aluminum trailers are known for issues when it comes to grounding. You can accomplish this by joining the individual grounds with a butt connector like # DW05745-10 to the one main ground wire. Another option is to install a simple junction box like # 38656 where each individual light's ground can be joined. Then connect to the main ground that goes to the trailer connector. Use ring terminals # 44-5310A to make the connections inside the box.

  • Are LED Trailer lights More Durable than Incandescent Light Bulbs
LED lights are more durable and can withstand more shock than incandescent bulbs. Regular bulbs are pretty fragile by comparison. It sounds like you need something like # RA-27C to help with lifting and lowering the gate. I have included a link to a video that shows how it works.
