Recommended Bracket and Light for Mounting License Plate Vertically on Boat Trailer Fender

Updated 01/28/2021 | Published 01/26/2021

Question:

Need to mount my license plate on my boat trailer fender. Trailer vendor recommended turning plate 90 degrees, bending plate and bolting to fender but I need a light. Do you have a bracket with light that will bolt to radius of fender? Plate can not hang down from fender because it acts like a sail at highway speeds.

I like the suggestion about installing the plate at a 90º angle to the fender. We don't offer a purpose-built plate bracket/lamp that will perfectly fit the radius of your fender, but if you were to bend the plate to conform to the fender use a lamp such as part # LPL41CB and install it next to the plate on the fender it would work pretty well.

A typical license plate in the US measures about 12x6, and the lamp measures about 1-3/4 inches wide when mounted on the vertical plane. If the flatter portion of the fender is at least 7-3/4 inches wide, this would work great. If the available width of the fender won't accommodate both the plate and the lamp, you can always mount the lamp on the adjacent trailer frame member so it illuminates the plate.

I've provided a diagram showing the dimensions of the license plate lamp I recommended.
