Troubleshooting Trailer Causing Blown Fuses On Vehicle When Connected
Updated 05/26/2015 | Published 05/22/2015 >
Question:
Installed LED lights on my trailer. Now after a few times of using it, the turn signal fuse continues to blow. It does not blow if the trailer is not hooked up. So I know it is not a vehicle problem. Any suggestions?

Since you said the fuses keep blowing with the trailer connected and they do not when the trailer is disconnected, this indicates there is a problem with a short on the trailer.
You will want to start by inspecting the trailer connector, checking for any signs of bent or damaged pins and any signs of corrosion. Then you will want to make sure the trailer connector ground is attached to a clean, bare metal surface.
Then check the wiring all the way back to the tail lights. Check for signs of exposed or damaged wires that could be shorting out by touching the metal trailer frame and repair as needed.
