Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Grease Cap, 2.44" OD Drive In with Plug

Today we're going to take at look at the trailer hub drive-in easy lube grease caps. These have a 2.44 overall diameter. This part is for a quantity of two. These grease caps are designed for trailers that have easy lube axles. If you notice it has a center rubber plug that pops right out. This plug is removed to access the grease zerk fitting that is usually on the end of an easy lube spindle on an easy lube axle.

It saves you. You don't have to take your whole hub off to grease the bearings. What you can do is with this on the end of the hub, you just pop the center rubber plug out. It gives you access to that zerk fitting, put your grease gun in there and pump the grease in. These are commonly used on 4,400 pound to 6,000 pound axles.

The caps are made of a 22 gauge steel construction. Again the plugs are rubber. These are a drive-in installation and they do have a corrosion resistant zinc plating to them. Again the quantity is for two of them. Two critical measurements on the center cap are going to be the flange diameter which is measured from here to here and the overall height from the bottom to the very top. On this cap our flange diameter is 2.44" and the overall height from the bottom to the top is right at 1.52".

When this is installed onto the hub, all you have to do is pop off your rubber plug to access the zerk fitting. When you're done greasing the bearings, just put the rubber plug right back in. That should do it for the review of the trailer hub drive-in easy lube grease caps with the 2.44 overall diameter and for a quantity of two.

Ordered 15 Dust Caps 2/ rubber plug, all different sizes. I had 15 Dust Caps and plugs, thrown in 1 box. Not one is labeled, basically useless to me. Not happy at all.

Yes, unfortunately the grease caps do not typically come with individual labels. The easiest way to distinguish between them will be to measure the outer diameter to determine their sizes.

Over a year ago I had a used trailer given to me. It needed end caps, you call them grease caps. I bought, I installed, and now the trailer sits. ( haven't used it ) I'd send a picture but trailer is under a foot of ice and snow.

by:

Exactly as Described. Dust Caps fit perfectly and the shipping was fast!

Works great!

by:

After ordering the 2.44 size, twice, from another website, that I thought would be faster. Both orders showed up measuring 2.46 and would not fit the trailer. The time I thought I would save, turned into two returns before ordering from etrailer. Which of course fit perfectly. Don't trust the many vendors that ship through [online vendor]. I should have gone to etrailer for the correct parts the first time.

I am glad to hear that we could fix their mistake!

by:

The parts were a fit for my rv. Lauren was very knowledgeable.

by:

Fits like it should, seems to be the correct size

by:

Replaced axles, new had EZ-Lube spindles and reused older drums and needed to retro fit with these Grease fitting access, dust caps. Worked perfectly

Good looking product, good tight fit. When installing the first time you'll need to file the burr off the edge and chamfer it slightly to get them started. They're still tight but you can persuade them with a wood block and hammer, without damage. They need to fit that tight and all four were uniform in fit, Thanks.

  • Replacement Hub and Drum Assembly For Older Drum Marked HD-1206
The HD-1206 number you found on your drum cross references to the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb Axles - 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-201-5 which is a 12" x 2" drum with the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern you mentioned but has wheel studs instead of holes for wheel bolts. The # 8-201-5 requires inner bearing # 25580, outer bearing # LM67048, grease seal # RG06-090, and grease cap # RG04-080 as these are not included. I included a video of the # 8-201-5 for you to take a look at.

  • Which Bearing And Seal Kit Is Needed For 2022 Cougar 368MBI Travel Trailer With Dexter 6K Axles?
Hey there Mark! That's a great idea to stock up on some spare parts. Most people don't have the foresight like that. You will need either Bearing Kit, 15123/25580 Bearings, GS-2125DL Seal # BK3-110 or Bearing Kit, 15123/ 25580 Bearings, 10-36 Seal # BK3-100 depending on if you have the 2.125" or 2.250" inner diameter seal. You likely have the 2.250" I.D. seal but you'd need to check the part number or measure the seal to verify, unfortunately. The only difference in the kits is the grease...

You are correct, the # 8-219-4UC3 matches your existing hub and drum assembly. I'm assuming you're referencing the difference in the grease cap when you say the grease is different. This has a standard grease cap, but you can use your existing E-Z lube grease caps in place of the caps that come with this assembly. If you want new ones you can use the # RG04-080. The grease cap and plug is the only difference between a regular and E-Z lube hub and drum assembly.
