Video Transcript for Breaking Down the 2" Lubed Dust Cap and Rubber Plug

Today we're going to look at the trailer hub E-Z Lube Grease Cap and Plug number DC-200L-DCRP. This grease cap is designed to fit trailer hubs on E-Z Lube axles that have a 1.99 inner diameter. This has a nice corrosion-resistant zinc plating. The E-Z Lube axles that this fits on, they have a grease-cert 00:00:20 fitting on the end of the spindle that allows you to grease the bearings without having to remove the complete hub assembly. This E-Z lube compatible grease cap will make lubricating the bearings very fast and easy. It just installs on the end of your hub and when you need to grease the bearings all you have to do is pop off the rubber plug. It has the hole right here to gain access to that grease-cert 00:00:41 fitting on the end of the spindle.

Put your grease cut in there and you can pump grease into the bearings without having to remove the complete hub and drum or hub assembly. Now this cap is made of a 22 gauge steel construction. Pop that rubber plug back in there. It is a drive and installation. In other words, you just tap that, drive it into the hub until it seats.

The rubber plus is included. The quantity is for 1. The flange diameter which is this measurement here, that would be the same measurement as the inner diameter of the hub it's going on. It's going to be right at 1.99 inches. The overall height from the bottom to the top is going to be right at 1.4 inches.

That should do it for the review of the Trailer Hub E-Z Lube Grease Cap and Plug number DC-200L-DCRP.

Just so plain boring. I mean that the only thing I can complain about is that there is not on dang thing to complain about.
As usual etrailer sells quality items at a fair price with exceptional customer service. I have ordered numerous items from them and never had the slightest problem with them.

I am sad that I won't be using these right away; Timken is the gold standard, I think. As I got further into my project, I realized that the electric brake magnet chewed up the drum face, so I had to pivot to ordering full drum/hub and brake assemblies for both sides. These come pre-installed with races and the bearings, seals, dust caps, and the supporting hardware is included. But I will use them on my next bearing exam/replacement.

The rubber plug has started to crack already around the center. Hoping it doesn't start to leak. It fit well and was easy to install.
by:
good quality but do not quite fit my 50 year old trailer they actually measure 1.98

Easy to figure out the right part on the website and fast shipping. This was my fourth or fifth time using etrailer.com and I will continue being a regular customer.

Pretty disappointed. I bought the cap. Put it on correctly and the second time I used the trailer it flew off.
Still without a cap.
by:
Quality material better than original.
by:
Doesn't fit as advertised, too small

Best Price I could find for these, should of bought a few extra although I doubt they will ever fall out. The fitment was pretty extreme on my trailer, it took me a while to get one of them on but I dont think these caps have to do with that issue. It is good thought because they wont fall off. I did have one of the rubber ends rip after 500 miles of towing, not sure if too much grease caused it to rip or just got a fluke one. Would recommend order a few pairs of the just the rubber caps to keeps as spares in case this happens, you lose one, etc.

Axle grease caps; easy to install on my boat trailer. They have been on over a year, seal out the water and dust, no grease leaking out on the rims. Very happy with them.

Its been over a year and seals still look like new. I live on a gravel road and travel 30 miles to my favorite lake at least 2 times a week. No leakage of grease, no water in bearings. Would order these again.

works perfect.

by:
The only thing is the rubber grommet seams bit loose. Just does seam to be as tight of a seal inside cap. But other than that, the cap fit was good. Will order again when it comes time for bearing change.

Exactly what I needed. Great price. Kind of hard to find locally.

Appreciate the prompt service but I guess I messed up on my order. I got two bearings that were the same size. My hub has a bigger inner bearing and seal.

You will need to know both the inner and outer bearing numbers. These numbers can be found stamped on the bearings themselves or you can use a digital caliper such as # PTW80157 to measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch at the seal, inner bearing and outer bearing.

by:
Maybe they're tight enough to be waterproof but I would have thought they would come with some type of seal around the flange since They do get used on boat trailers.

I wanted to reach out to you in regards to your review on the grease caps. I would not say that they are waterproof however they generally tight enough for a boat trailer. I did want to confirm that you do have the EZ lube spindles on your trailer.

  • Trailer Hub Dust Cap with a 2.125" Outside Diameter
I have a couple close but not perfect to your measurements. The 2" Lubed Dust Cap & Rubber Plug - 1.99" part # DC200L-DCRP is an extremely common cap size found on a lot of trailers. Sometimes the hub will have a small bevel on them that could easily be 1/16" on each side getting us to the 2 1/8" or I have the larger Zinc Plated Grease Cap - 2.333" Outer Diameter part # TRDC-233 but with this one we are looking at it being almost 1/4" too big. I think that will cause issues with installation....

  • How to Remove a Trailer EZ Lube Grease Cap or Dust Cap
EZ Lube Dust Caps, like # DC200L-DCRP, have a rubber plug that can be removed to access the zerk fitting. The rubber plug can be removed by gently prying it up with a flathead screwdriver. If your dust cap is in good condition and you want to avoid getting dents in the cover, you can use the Dust Cap Driver Tool to remove the cap. Simply slide it over the dust cap and then use the leverage created by the handle to gently pry on the cap in different directions until it begins to wiggle....

  • What Would Cause Grease to Appear All Over Trailer Wheels on 3 Trailers
It sounds like the seals have failed and the grease from the bearings has come out during travel. Also it is possible that if you have an EZ lube axle with a grease zerk at the end to add grease but use a single lip seal, the pressure can blow out the single lip seal. If you have mixed incompatible greases they can break down and could some how evacuate the hub. You will want to inspect the seals on the trailers to see if they are the issue. I can tell you what replacement seals you...

  • Can Galvanized Dexter 3,500 lb Hub 8-248-50 be Used on EZ Lube Spindle
Yes, the Kodiak Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # Q-HUB84545 that you referenced is perfectly compatible with EZ lube spindles. The only difference between the hubs that are EZ lube and non-EZ lube is the cap style. So for an EZ lube style cap that fits this hub you'd just need the part # DC200L-DCRP and you'd be set.

  • Grease On Front of Wheel On Trailer After Sitting 18 Months
There should not be grease leaking onto your wheel. Since it is on the front of the wheel that leads me to think maybe the grease zerk was not all the way tight and may have leaked some grease out, or if there was any grease that was on the outside of the hub it is possible that sitting out in the elements caused some water to dilute and run down the hub. When you removed the wheel, did you see any grease on the back side of the hub leaking out? If not I'd just clean the wheel and any...

  • How do I Change from the Dexter Vault to EZ Lube Hubs on Boat Trailer?
Hello Rick, The Dexter Vault isn’t an entire hub assembly, it’s actually just a high-tech replacement for a regular grease cap. It fits onto the end of the hub where you’d normally find a dust cap or standard bearing protector. What makes it special is that it contains a sealed chamber filled with temperature-sensitive oil instead of grease. So even though it looks like a regular cap on the outside, inside it’s doing a lot more to keep your bearings lubricated and cool. You’ll want to...
