Features to know about

Solid and Secure Entry: Aluminum Scissor Design with 300 lb Capacity

The Brophy Camper Scissor Steps give you a sturdy, grounded feel every time you climb in or out. Each step is 24" wide and 8-1/2" deep, with an 8" rise between steps, so they feel more like real stairs than a ladder. The scissor design expands from 24" to 30" tall and self-adjusts to the terrain for a stable base on uneven ground. With a 300 lb weight capacity, they stay solid under load without flexing or wobbling.

Confident Footing in Any Weather: Non-Slip Step Surface

Every tread has a built-in non-slip surface that grips your shoes even when wet. Users appreciate how secure the footing feels—it’s a big improvement over slick or narrow factory steps. Whether you’re climbing up with groceries, pets, or just tired legs after a long day, these steps help keep every step sure and steady.

Strong but Easy to Handle: Lightweight Aluminum Build

These steps use heavy-gauge aluminum, so they’re strong yet light enough to move easily. The full 3-step assembly weighs just 22 lbs and folds up neatly for travel or storage. Many owners like that it’s simple to lift, mount, and stow without needing extra help or tools once the bracket is in place.

Quick Mount and Clean Removal: Bracket and Hardware Included

The 24" x 1" x 1" mounting bracket secures with the included screws and gives you a solid anchor point. When it’s time to go, the stairs unclip from the “V” clamps in seconds so you can pack them away. This design also means there’s no bounce or shift while in use, which adds to the stable feel people mention in reviews.

Optional Comfort Add-On: Handrail for Extra Support

If you want even more security, a matching handrail (AHR3, sold separately) attaches easily to the side. Many users find that it helps older adults, kids, or pets climb safely and comfortably, rounding out a setup that feels stable and trustworthy every time you use it.

The Brophy Scissor Steps are excellent -- sturdy and stable when deployed, light and compact when collapsed. On my Four Wheel Camper, there was not enough room to install the mounting bracket/hanger below the door. So I bolted a piece of 4x4 just above the rear bumper. Then I used the provided lag screws to attach the bracket to the 4x4. Looks and works great.

by:

Sturdy and easy to install on the bumper of my Arctic Fox truck camper. The 3 steps are right for the height of my camper when loaded onto truck. I would have given it 5 stars except for the gap between the last step an bumper. As I read in another post, if one fell into the gap and fell, I feel that a serious injury could occur. I cured that problem by filling the gap with and appropriate size of wood block placed on the top folding camper step.

by:

My 2003 Lance 815 (8' 6") came with four 3/8 " diameter studs for mounting stairs below the door and pointed downward. (I contacted Lance about purchasing "bolt-on" steps, but received no response.) I then purchased an aluminum angle brace and drilled to fit the step mounting bracket. Then I drilled the aluminum angle brace to fit the four existing mounting studs. The resulting mounting bracket is about 1" below the door, and the step work very well for a ground clearance of 30 inches. My one issue is where to store the steps when traveling.

Perfect solution to my need. Quality product

by:

We were excited to find wide 3-step scissor steps to use on our truck camper. The width would allow us to put a dog ramp along one side and still have room for our feet. Unfortunately, the steps are just too tall so we had to return them. Our camper has a side door entry and the bracket is only 22" from the ground. We couldn't open the steps far enough to get the steps level or to be able to close the door. They seemed to be really well made and a quality product!

by:

Love it!!! One of the best choices we made for our tiny house!

by:

stairs are sturdy, light, and easy to use at a good price.

by:

Look great...pretty beefy...just wish they came in 36" width

by:

Came within 2 days. Did not expect the solid nature of the top step. Seen others without the top step being like the rest of them. Will use on slide in camper. Width is great. Have not had chance to attach yet.

Everything we expected. Works great

by:

I bought this for stairs to my tailgate and bought the special bar for hookup to the tailgate. The aluminum will bend on the top and the bottom if you are on uneven ground. Steps are sturdy but the top connection worries me.

I really dont feel safe going up and down these steps. The aluminum strip at the top that attaches to the bracket is not very strong and bends. Theyou should have some bracing from the middle to the ground to give it some extra strength. Needs to be beefed up more.

by:

I would give these steps 10 Stars if I could. They have really saved my knees over my previous step system. I also really like the wider and deeper steps. When I was younger I had the smaller brophy steps. But my older knees really like the bigger steps now, and for me the extra cost was really worth it.

by:

These steps worked perfectly with my camper. So easy to get up and down and super easy to fold up and set inside the door for travel. I'm so glad I found your product. It saved me from a possible fall!

by:

Purchased these because my wife had an issue with her knee and couldn’t climb into my truck camper. These were Excellent use of my money and saved my camping season in 2018.

by:

Purchased these to use on our Jumping Jack Blackout Trailer. Didn't want to drill directly into the trailer, so my Husband devised a creative way to use it. Will be using it camping this weekend for the first time. So far love the extra room of the 24". They feel sturdy & it feels natural (It's nice to not have to think about how or where you are placing your feet) walking on them- like real stairs...

by:

This is the exact thing I needed to make it easier to get into and out of my camper. I couldn't use the mounting bracket, but I rest it on the OEM step with a piece of wood as a spacer.

by:

steps worked great for the 400 square feet not-so-tiny portable house being built. light but very sturdy and easy to install. after the deck boards are installed the gap at the top will be covered. speedy delivery at a fair price. I highly recommend them. etrailer is definitely one of my go to internet sites. reasonable prices, fast delivery and good selections, with good customer support. thanks etrailer !!!

by:

Very well made product. Going in and out of the camper is much more secure, my old ladder was OK when I was younger but was wobbly. I had to make a 2" x 2" angle aluminum mount to lower the steps to clear the door opening.

by:

Easy to install and have been using regularly for about one year. e-trailer was easy to work with and we are very glad we purchased. Had to replace the pins at the bottom step with a nut/ bolt to prevent steps from opening too far. The original pins kept falling out until they were finally lost.

by:

I appreciated the good technical information on this product.I was in a hurry to replace the factory installed steps on my older wood framed camper so we could put it to use this year.We stopped using the old steps some time ago but had no practical replacement for them. My wife ,who began experiencing knee problems, gave me an ultimatum to either fix the stairs or go buy a new trailer or our camping days would be over. This style worked very well. I had a local fabricator weld the top support bracket to the existing step housing for the old stairs as can be seen in the photos. The top support design puts very little stress on the camper's wood frame that the old steps are anchored to. Looks good and works well. Thanks folks

by:

I have been using this trailer step for over a year. It is fabulous. I decided on this model because the stairs are deeper making it easier and safer for myself, family members as well as my old dog to get in and out of the camper. I am able to use my single folding step during travel, placing the scissor step on without conflict. I highly recommend the step to anyone who has a camper.

by:

I like these steps. I modified them slightly for my purposes. I removed the lower bar with a sawzall to shorten the steps slightly. Still seems very steady without the bar. This made the steps a perfect height for my custom trailer. They close up nicely and I can keep them attached even while driving since they fit under the door. I made some safety straps to make sure they would not unzip (probably overkill); there is already a metal clip in the back which does already hold the steps.

by:

I bought these steps because my wife had trouble getting into our 4wd pop up camper. The door is at the rear of the camper, mounted on a Ford F-150. I myself did not want the steps because I thought they would add weight, bulk while traveling, and hassle.

I was unable to use the mounting bracket supplied. If I were to mount the bracket to the back of the camper, it would be too high, and also leave a gap between the camper and the top step. I solved the problem by mounting a flat aluminum step across the bumper, and then on top of that bolting on two plywood boards with a gap just big enough to take the top aluminum bar of the steps. The steps fit onto this perfectly.

In use, I now like these steps a lot. They are VERY solid and secure - much more than any other option, such as the plastic folding stepstool I used before. Since the steps are securely attached to the truck, and also resting securely on the ground, it makes for a VERY stable and secure step.

When traveling it is very easy to fold them up and put them into the back of the camper. They are the first thing unpacked, and the last thing packed. Yet it does add weight and takes up room, but in my opinion it is well worth it.

by:

Great product and easy to mount. The larger size step is great for my pyrenees dogs to enter and exit my four wheel pop up hawk camper. Wasn’t sure the 3 step was going to be tall enough, but seems to be working so far. Was trying to avoid the 4 step version because of extra size and weight. The package only comes with 4 bolts and the mounting bracket has five holes so i picked up 1 more 1/4”x1 1/2”x 14 sheet metal screw for extra security. Get one of these , so much nicer than a hitch mount step or fold up step.

All good and zero rust

by:

I could not find a product specifically made for my application, but these steps were a very close fit. I little cutting here some drilling there and what do you know, steps 'custom made' for a 1999 Roadtrek 190P. Now anyone with mobility issues can enter the camper easily. You cannot see it in the picture, but there are blocks under the top step that are pinned to the campers step, it is a very solid connection and will not pull out accidentally. Also not visible there are commercial handicapped grab bars on both doors as well as on the left hand 'wall' of the bathroom. With the addition of these steps the camper is now easily accessible for my wife.

I am very glad I bought this step. Well worth the price I paid. Saw cheaper ones on Amazon but after reading the reviews I wasn't going there. I believe you get what you pay for. Excellent product for our truck camper.

  • Would the Brophy Camper Scissor Step Work with my Tailgate?
Appreciate you reaching out Ryan, The best way to determine if the Brophy Tailgate Scissor Step # AS23 will work with your F150 is to measure from the top of the tailgate down to the ground. That measurement will help determine whether the steps are the correct height. To secure the Brophy Scissor steps you'll need to check the available mounting space on your tailgate. That is a good question, and you can leave your current fold-out steps up and in the folded position when installing the mounting bracket of the Brophy Scissor Steps. The reason is, the bracket will be installed just underneath the door so as long as when your steps are folded up there is no interference in that area the Brophy steps will be a great option. Great question! The All Terrain Landing Gear for RV Scissor Steps, # TLA8000, work with most factory scissor steps. Many steps like Brophy Scissor Steps # AS23 use rivets. You are correct - the rivets will need to be drilled out using a 1/4" drill bit. Once this is completed, you will replace the lower hoop of the steps using the hardware that is provided. (See attached diagram.) To further increase the safety of your steps, you may want to consider adding a handrail like # AHR3. I've...

  • Why are Brophy Aluminum Scissor Steps # AS23 Not Suitable for Permanent Installation
Brophy does not recommend their Aluminum Scissor Steps # AS23 for permanent installation due to their height when retracted.
