Video Transcript for Feature Review Folding Hand Rail for Brophy RV Scissor Stairs

Today, we're going to review part number AHR4. This is the Brophy Aluminum Hand Rail for the Four-Step Scissor Stairs. Basically, this is a folding collapsible hand rail which is designed for your trailer scissor steps. This is the perfect length for the four-step variety. This handle will add extra support when using the stairs. It's easy to remove.

It clamps to your existing stair and it includes an RV mounting bracket. Again, it does fold flat for our storage. Basically, this is will fit the Brophy brand in most other four-step scissor steps. I have an example here of a four-stair system and, basically, your hand rail would mount pretty much on that application. You would want to mount the hand rail on the latch side of your RV door because you would not want the door to swing open and hit the hand rail.

Basically, I just want to show you the mounting brackets and how it mounts to the stairs. Get start with this. This is the RV mounting bracket. It has a pin in it. Basically, what this would do, it has four mounting holes and it does come with the four mounting screws.

This would bolt on to your RV with the square side connector pointing down. Basically, you would take the section of your hand rail that has the bevel cut in it. Once this is installed on the RV, this part would go. This handle would go right into there and you just line the hole up. Put the pin through.

Once the pin goes through, put the clip on it and that's basically how your upper part will be mounted to the RV and be connected. Then on the very bottom part that will clamp to the stairs, it will be aluminum bracket with a bolt and a wing nut on it. The way that would attach on the very bottom step, you would run this behind the step through the hand rail and then put the wing nut on to attach it. Basically, I'll show you right up here how that would work like you'd find the two brackets right here. Put this bracket between the stairs with the bolt sticking out, slide on your hand rail and then tighten it down with the wing nut. Basically, I'll show you where it goes right here and then just line the hole up on the hand rail. Slide it through. Sit that up there. Put your wing nut on and snug it down. I want you to snug to the stairs. This part would be mounted up to your RV. That's basically how that would install on your vehicle and on the stairs. That should do it for review on part number AHR4.

Installed the new Brophy scissor steps and the optional hand rail yesterday on our cab over camper, we are very pleased with the wider steps, plus my wife loves the hand rail. The four step scissor steps were the perfect height from our camper to the ground which replaced a three step scissor that were narrower and had to have a support box to make them work. The new scissor step installation was very easy to do as was the hand rail. I highly recommend the Brophy scissor steps and the hand rail
option, for the price, it's a great product.

After 1 year, the scissor steps and hand rail are working just as good as the day I put them on! I highly recommend this product! Was easy to install and the wider steps with the hand rail was the best safety idea for entering or exiting our camper. At the time, gave this product 4 stars, after I year it gets 5 stars, super product!

by:

while I have not actually installed these(tropical storm Ophelia interrupted that process) I was disappointed in the handrail... basically it is 2 pieces of aluminum tubing a small bracket and hardware... hardly worth $[XX]

by:

I received the steps and am very pleased with them. Thank you for your service.

by:

Easy to istall and use very sturdy

by:

Easily installed.
Great product.
Customer
service staff was very helpfull.

We bought this handrail for our overhead camper on our pickup because the steps are so high going up to the camper. We looked around and couldn't find a handrail specifically for our application so we bought this one. I had to modify the bottom bracket that ties the handrail to the steps and now it works fine. The bracket mounts easily and only takes a couple of minutes each time to setup. It definitely gives us that extra stability we need while going up and down the steps. It would have been nice if there had already been a bracket available for our application, but if you are handy, this is definitely worth the money.

by:

it was the answer for me....we had (since traded) a truck camper (loved it) but as a person with a stroke, getting in and out would have been a serious problem if it had not been for these steps and this awesome handrail! It totally gave me the stability to go both up and down. Loved it! Assembly and mounting took a half second! I guess you could say this handrail made the impossible possible for me. Excellent product!S

by:

This hand rail is so worth the money!!! It will help someone from falling off the rv steps. We are very happy! Would def buy it again.

This product is just super. I know I would have fallen a few times getting in or out of our camper without this handrail. Our camper is a bit high so we needed the extra support for the scissor steps and we would def buy this again.

by:

The four step scissor stairs and hand rail are perfect for my Alaskan camper. I modified the stairs slightly to attach to the tail gate of my Ford F350. It has provided a very easy way to attach and remove for travel, and a safe way to board the camper. My wife loves it! Thank you.

by:

Good service fit great looks good works awesome

by:

Got this with associated Brophy heavy duty stairs. Installation was a breeze. The wife has medical issues that affect her balance. I have no doubt these will extend our camping life by several years.

by:

I was surprised how soon they arrived after I ordered them. We had made some nice wood steps that were sturdy and looked nice, but they had a big problem. Did I mention we live in an rv.I and our elderly Newfoundland dog have trouble getting into our rv.
The wood steps were very heavy and hard to move. I saw these online. They are perfect, lightweight, easy to fold and move, easy to reattach, and most important very sturdy. I will tell anyone needing help in getting in their rv to purchase etrailer stairs.

by:

It works great. I had to make an adjustment. The handrail was moved from the left side to the right side of the post to lineup with the door because of how the step was mounted.

by:

I have purchased both the brophy steps and handrail from etrailer.com.
Botlh were excellent products andm sturdy enough to allow me to feel safe when entering and exiting the camper.
etrailer.com was efficient in product delivery.

by:

The steps work great..
Much safer and
easier to use than original steps.
The Hand rail +Steps are a must!!

by:

Quick delivery, easy install. Stairs and hand rail now make it easy for my wife and I to access our pick up bed pop up camper. Stairs fold in and out easily and the hand rail was easy to attach. As you get older the balance is not what it once was. This set up will increase our enjoyment and safety of going camping.

by:

These products are great. Built solid and came complete with all hardware.
These are mounted on the back of a flatbed truck to enable us to walk up
and down from the flatbed in a safe manner. Easily removed and stored
when not in use. Great site and customer service.

by:

Excellent product. High quality design and construction. Great customer service to deployed military overseas.

by:

A good addition to the scissor steps as it adds that extra stability if your balance isn't perfect.

by:

Good quality overall. I made alterations to the handrail as I have a deck on the back of my camper. By drilling a few extra holes and adding a couple of clips it works great!

by:

etrailer.com as always, provided great service and a great product!
I will continue to use etrailer.com for everything I need for my RV!

by:

This is an excellent accessory to the 4 step steps I recently purchased and as with the steps, was delivered in 3 days. It is a good feeling of security just being able to climb in and out of the camper without having to look down all the time and in the dark. It is easy to install and use and would recommend it for anyone, especially older people like myself afraid of tripping.

by:

Haven't installed yet, but looks like made from quality material, should be easy to install on my cabover camper.

Bought to help the mother out-law climb in and out of the cabover camper. We use it every time we camp now, was easy to install. Would recomend to family and friends.

by:

I'm still waiting for my shakle and hit ches

by:

The product is very convenient, however, I will be moving towards something that's more permanent for my usage. My only issue that I had with the product, is the plastic bolt that attaches the post has cracked, and needed to be replaced twice. I'm no longer using that piece and have since purchased a butterfly bolt from the hardware store. Overall I do like the product.

  • Do Fold-Out Steps Need to be Removed When Mounting Brophy Scissor Steps
That is a good question, and you can leave your current fold-out steps up and in the folded position when installing the mounting bracket of the Brophy Scissor Steps. The reason is, the bracket will be installed just underneath the door so as long as when your steps are folded up there is no interference in that area the Brophy steps will be a great option. I added a photo for you a customer sent in which shows the bracket and steps installed so you can get an idea of how they mount. The...

I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, the Brophy Camper Scissor Steps - 3 Steps # AS23 will not work with the dimensions that you provided (thank you!) because you have an entry height of 36 inches from the ground to the entry way. The Brophy steps are only designed to fit steps that have entryway heights of 24-30 inches. We have other sizes of steps (see links below) if this size is not correct for you. I have posted links to hand rails for the adjustable steps also. If I can be of further assistance let me know.
