Today, we'll be reviewing part number HM 40975. This is the Pollak 7 and 4 pole trailer connector socket with mounting bracket. The product is manufactured by Pollak and distributed exclusively by Hopkins. It's going to offer you a 7 pole and a 4 pole trailer connector for easy connection, as well as the mounting bracket and the hardware. It has high impact, ABS plastic construction with a stainless steel spring for easy and convenient cover operation. The rubber gasket is going to provide weather resistant design. You see there, that they're very easy to open and close.
It does include the mounting bracket for easy snap in socket installation. The mounting bracket is made from a black epoxy coated steel construction and it mounts directly to the bumper with the included screws. This is designed to replace your factory 7 way connection on Chevrolet, Ford, GMC and Nissan trucks and SUVs. This can be used to add a connector to a 2003 and newer GM pick ups and SUVs. It's going to be an exact replacement for Chrysler and Dodge vehicles with 7 pull sockets from the factory. You see there, that we've got the easy connection, here, at the bank so you can get all your wiring in place.
It's also got the snap lock design, so it snaps right into the bracket. Once you have your connections made, you just feed this in through the bracket. It's going to snap into place. It's going to hold it nice and tight, very secure. On this side, you're going to have the 4 pole flap. On this side, you're going to have your 7 way connection.
It's got the 2 mounting holes up top for the 2 included screws. That's going to do it for today's review of part number HM 40975. .

Good fit and worked just fine. A bonus is that it also has the 4-pin connector built-in so no adapter is required for that kind of trailer connector. 563271

Installed on 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and Draw-Tite hitch. Setup was super easy using factory connection. Now just have to have Jeep dealer activate the trailer towing feature to get it to work. Couple quotes for $140.00 to flash computer. Seriously I asked. Oh well. I'm knocking it down 1 star because if you look at the video that etrailer has for installing this product, they installed on a hitch that had the mounting bracket on it and didn't use the self taping bolts. It seemed at least to me, there were/would be nuts and bolts provided with the kit (along with the self taping bolts). At least for me that wasn't the case and I had to piece together the hardware. 505920

Plug and play, couldn't be easier! Decent price too. Only 4 stars due to the ridiculous self-taping screws they expect you to put through 3/16" steel (just guessing on the thickness - it's 1/8-3/16 best guess...). The install video on the site shows them using nuts/bolts/lockwashers to install it, which is what I did. This product should come with that arrangement instead of the self-taping screws, in my not-so-humble-home-installer-opinion... 554683

I ordered DrawTite hitch #76031 along with Tekonsha Wiring #118273 and HM40975, 7 and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket for my 2018 Nissan Pathfinder SL. I ordered on a Thursday afternoon and the merchandise arrived the following Monday evening (with free shipping and no tax). The hitch arrived in excellent condition with no scratches or scrapes and was packaged very well. The total for my order was a great price! This also included a tube of dielectric grease and a brush. To get a factory hitch would have required an expensive "Technology Package" at a cost of over $2000 or a dealer install which would have cost over $1000. I did the install of the hitch myself. It would have been far easier if I had a lift to raise the vehicle off the ground, and a helper to hold the hitch in place and get the 6 frame bolts started. I used an ice chest to prop up one side of the hitch while I got the bolts started on the other side. Watch the videos from etrailer before doing the install. I did have to trim about one-eighth of an inch off the corner of the gasoline vapor recovery box on the left underside of the vehicle to get the hitch into a position so that the holes in the hitch lined up with the weld nuts on the frame. I used a rotary file on the end of my drill to do this. The 2X2 receiver does barely touch the bottom of the rear trim on my Pathfinder but did not require cutting the trim to get it to fit. The Tekonsha #118273 Factory Wiring was not difficult to install. The etrailer video on how to install this item was not as good as it could have been. The installer says he is going to make the 2 vehicle connections inside the left-rear of the vehicle "by feel," which may be fine for someone who knows what he is doing, but was not helpful to me. I pulled back the trim on the inside left rear to make these 2 connections. You should definitely make ALL of your wiring connections BEFORE installing the hitch itself. If you don't, it will be very difficult to reach the connectors outside the right rear of the vehicle if the hitch is already in place. BE WARNED about this. The HM40975 connector was very easy to install and by having it you will not need to use an adapter to use a 4-way flat trailer connector. I used 2 stainless steel bolts to fasten the bracket into place instead of the included self-tapping bolts that were in the kit. This item is well worth the small cost. I am completely satisfied with my purchase from etrailer and will not hesitate to recommend them highly. Both George and Adam at Etrailer were very helpful. See the picture of the completed install on my 2018 Nissan Pathfinder SL. 566326

Trailer plug unit (Pollack 7 & 4 pole for my F-250 was broken by the car wash. Called the dealer and they wanted double what e-trailer sales it for plus I had to special order and that took too long to ship as I needed it immediately. I went online and found ETrailer.com and they had the exact replacement device that was identical to what the manufacturer had installed. I ordered it and asked to have it within a set timeframe and e-trailer did exactly what they said they would do! The lady I spoke with Cathy was on the stick with the entire order and follow-up. The Etrailer staff then followed up the very next day of delivery. I have just installed the plug this morning so it has to be tested but do not forsee any issues as it is the exact replacement which worked great before. I am very impressed with the service here and will most definitely buy from them again as well as refer my freinds and business associates. I manage a commercial fleet as well as work with many other contractors who have trucks and trailers and there is always the need for something in this category. Great job ETrailer, you have a new long term customer. 42962

Good product. Sturdy, nice feature to have the 4 pin and 7 pin plugs, rather than using an adapter. Plugged right into my 2001 Tahoe wiring which was nice. Everything works as it should. My ONLY issue, is actually with etrailers installation video. We drilled the holes in the bumper, same as the video, and got everything installed. The vehicle wiring plugged into the connector at an upwards angle. This caused it to hit the hitch body before it was fully seated. We found we had to mount it to the hitch, because in the video, they have a "valley" hitch, that has more of a bend to it, than the factory round hitch. We ended up mounting it to the hitch itself. Works great. So for the product, 5 stars, for etrailer on this one issue, 4.5 stars. 206247

It came with it's own bracket, which is a plus. It was compatible with etrailer.com's part number C56357, which is also a plus. The self tapping screws being the only hardware coming with the item was a disappointment. I just installed etrailer.com's part number 76301 hitch receiver which has a mounting plate for brackets like this. The self tapping screws, which might have been effective, wouldn't have looked "professional." After finding some hardware which worked, it went on smoothly and fits well with the rest of the assembly. 538985

This was what I needed to make my new truck able to pull my two trailers. You even had a video showing how to install it on your web site, this helps a lot. Thanks for the help. 211204
Thanks for the follow up Rachael, the part is working great, dont use it very often but still needed to have one. You guys are great! Will recommend your site to others needing parts. Glad that a Company can still value there customers now a-days, does not happen as often as it use to.

This is a plug-in replacement for my 2010 Ford F-150 with factory installed trailer package. I had this exact same connector but someone unclipped it and stole it. Ford Parts wanted over $100 for a replacemnt (they included the entire rear bumper harness that I did not need). I had the cutout on the hitch that exactly matched this bracket and the blue socket that you see in the optional pigtail available for this product (see attached photo). I snapped this dual connector into my existing cutout - fit perfectly. Did not need to use the included bracket. So if your factory connector is damaged or stolen, use this as a snap-in replacement. The only difference is it says "Pollack" instead of "Ford". I called Hopkins before I bought and they said they supplied a lot of the OE parts Ford uses. 55449

Quality OEM [email protected] substantially lower cost then OEM. 83070
It appears there is an engineering design defect in this product - at least when installed on my 08 F250. Water from Michigan weather - i.e. rain, snow and car washes continues to find its way into the plug, corroding the contacts and causing a wiring fault. No Im NOT backing into water to unload a boat, Ive removed, cleaned and dried the inside at least three times, covered the contacts and connection points with dielectric grease and carefully sealed the unit w electric tape. Last week, I sprayed the outside of the plug w/ flexible rubber seal yes as seen on TV in my fourth attempt at stopping the water from getting into the plug. This past week, while on a 500 mile road trip we made it through torrential driving rain without experiencing any connection issues. Im keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I dont have to take the plug apart, now that its sealed in the rubber coating!
We hope the rubber coating takes care of the problem. If not, we've got a couple of suggestions. You mentioned dielectric grease. If you weren't already, you can be pretty liberal with the application. You can fill the socket and push the connector in and wipe the excess that squirts out. If all the voids are full of grease, there's no place for the water to go. Second, on most of these types of connectors, there is a rubber gasket on the vehicle side that usually stays in, but will sometimes pull out when you remove the cap or the previous 7-way connector. If you still have the cap or old connectory, you may want to check for the gasket.

Because of my particular placement of the plug mounting bracket, I had to spot weld the bracket to my hitch. Once I did that, I let it cool a bit, that simply snapped my connector in, plugged my chevy 2500 hd wiring harness in the back and now I do not have to mess with plug adapters for my flat wired trailers. Very, very, easy installation. Additionally, this new plug solved a bunch of issures with blinking trailer lights or lights that were not working at all. Thanks for your courteous service, great price, and fast shipping. Forever a customer, tom 56598
All my comments in my review almost a year ago are still applicable today. Our winter here was terrible with all the rain, snow, and ice. My lighting circuits on my trailers and boat worked great...whereas in the past, they performed poorly in any kind of wet conditions.I always recommend to my friends who have had wiring problems with their trailers to start at the truck with a solid performing plug with appropriate adapters for the type of trailers you will be using. It will eliminate a host of problems with lights not working properly. Thanks once again for your courteous service.

Excellent quality. Only took 5 minutes to install. Outstanding customer service!! Ordered online on Friday and received via USPS on Monday, with emails letting me know the order was received, the item was shipped, and one that stated that the company had received information that the item had been delivered. And each one was signed by an individual. If only all companies operated this way. 93531
Works great! Nice to see that there are companies like yours that value customer service and take the time to follow up after a years time. Thank you.

very easy to install. it is a rather tight fit on a Chevy traverse. Allows a factory install of aftermarket hitch by using GM harness # 25910884 ($68.00) . Harness comes with snap in wire ties that go in holes on cross frame of rear bumper. Vehicle to connector harness is located to the rear of right rear tire between outer body panel and tail light . Use flash light and look up. Cord fits E trailer Vehicle end plug 40975. Need to drill two holes in cross frame for bracket. It all snaps together very well. Also need to add 3 relays in engine fuse box. GM13502753. This is gray relay 1/2 in square and has 2750 market on top. this eliminates splicing delicate factory wiried and hassel of hot wire from battery. Bumper skirt snaps back into place and hides hitch totally on 2013 Chevy Traverse. 87284
Has worked like OEM installed product only about $400 cheaper.EXCELLENT I will do it again on my next vehicle,
Chas,Where did you mount this part on your Traverse? I want to mount it to my 2010 Acadia but I cant find a good place to mount it? Can you send me a picture?I already bought the gm factory harness to install along the cross frame.
-- comment by: Rod b - 05/10/2015I installed it to the left of the receiver. trimmed some of the plastic on bumper trim that holds the removable access cover for the hitch. Y ou need to be careful not to cut away the slots that hold cover in place. The installed hitch and electrical are completely concealed.. Note there are several blogs on the Traverse owners forum. I also bought the correct tow switch, and relays that fit in the engine compartment fuse box. The ranny is already programmed at factory for tow mode. One fellow posted photos of the whole prcedure and listed all part numbers. I also ordered the tranny cooler from E-Trailer. Be sure to use a digital thermometer to be sure you hook up to correct lines. You will need to find correct fitting on internet. It will take some time to remove most of the front clip to have room to work.Incidentally I drove Traverse up on a coulpe fo 4X4 to be able to work under it., I used a floor jack to raise up hitch to align it.chas

I recently bought a new truck, as my other one was over twenty-two years old. On the old truck, I installed both the trailer hitch and the light hook-up. A lot has changed in the last twenty-two years. The agreement on the new truck was that it come with a trailer hitch, but I failed to include the light hook-up assembly. I thought that if you got one, you got the other! WRONG! I was informed that I would have to purchase and install the light hook-up myself. I went on line to etrailer.com and ordered the light hook-up. It was at a reasonable cost and arrived within a week of being ordered. Was a bit surprised when I opened the box and just found a plug-in type hook-up assembly. I was expecting a lot of wiring and other connectors. The installation took about a half an hour and was very easy to do. Again, a lot has changed in the past twenty-two years. I am very pleased with the part, price, ease of installation, and the change that the truck manufacturers have made in the area of tow package hook-ups. 384686

This was a great addition to the hitch I bought for my 2011 Grand Cherokee. I was able to plug it right into the factory harness for a perfect fit. The only issue you may have is the trailer lights won't work until you get the computer flashed from the dealer to tell the Jeep it has a towing harness attached now. 54337
I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that came without the tow package, but which still had the 7-way connector at the rear. This trailer connector socket attached easily to my hidden hitch, and connecting it to the Jeeps 7-way was a snap. If your trailer signals and brake lights do not work after installing this socket on the 2012 WK, youll probably have to take it to the dealer for a body control module re-flash, and itll cost you around $100.
-- comment by: Randy D - 02/19/2013Thanks for the info. We have seen some dealers so it for less even for no charge. Just depends on the dealer.

I bought this as a replacement for the existing trailer connector on my 2013 Tundra. The mount was different than what I had (mine wasn't angled) but I was able to snap the wiring connector into the existing mount so I didn't have to change anything or drill holes. Installation took less than 5 minutes. Wiring harness on backside connected perfectly. Excellent value considering Toyota would only sell me an entire wiring assembly which was over $200 (if I recall correctly). eTrailer ordering, shipping and follow up from customer service confirming delivery of the part couldn't be beat! 194541
Still working great!

I really like this trailer plug since it converts a standard 7 Wire plug into both a 7 wire and 4 wire. It plugs directly into the factory wiring harness. it comes with everything you need to mount it (bracket and self tapping screws). It was an easy install. My 05 Chevy Tahoe had the factory 7 wire outlet bracket, I left that in place and mounted this bracket just to the left of it. I highly recommend this product. 437664

Scratched my head for a while, trying to find a quality way to connect this vehicle end 4/7 wire socket to my trailer ready (almost) 2015 Audi Q7. Finally decided that it really didn’t need to be bolted, but could be hose clamped to the existing heavy duty Audi bracket. Mounted it sideways with a 1” diameter and a 3” diameter hose clamp. Be sure to use a 3” clamp with lots of serrations that all it to tighten it down a lot. You’ll need to drill out the small hole of the supplied bracket to allow a clamp to fit through it. The other hole is a slot, and works unaltered. Small clamp on bottom, large clamp on top. You’ll also need to relieve a small spot on the trim piece to make room for the 4-wire door to o-en freely. This is marked as red on one of the pictures. Looks good and should work good! 567819

Here's some snaps of my Hopkins #40975 installation. I can confirm that it's an identical replacement for the 2014 Silverado 1500 trailer-light blank insert, no bracket required. It took me 30 seconds to plug the Silverado's OEM 7-pin round connector (located inside the blank insert) into the #40975 Wiring Kit and snap it into the cutout. Then I tested the flat 4-pin outlet of the #40975 with a 5 dollar 4-pin LED tester from West Marine, and all light functions tested good. Shweet! To remove the OEM blank plug, it helps to reach behind it and pinch the two spring clips holding it in place... same with the #40975 if it needs to be removed for some reason. When I ordered the part from eTrailer, your site had a comment, "This will not fit your vehicle. See below for compatible parts," or words to that effect. Maybe take a look at that and remove the comment, as the #40975 is an exact fit for 2014 Silverado 1500, no bracket needed. Thanks, eTrailer team! 120915
Although I havent towed since installing the Hopkins Pollak wiring kit since I installed it a year ago, I have tested the 4-pin connector for proper function using a 4-pin LED tester from West Marine and it checks out okay. Recently I inspected the kit for water intrusion mentioned by one of the raters, and I found no evidence of moisture inside the dual-connector compartment. On installation, I did make liberal use of the dielectric grease that accompanies the kit. Good product, easy installation, and great price.

My adapter arrived last night. Took about 45 seconds to install on my 2015 Toyota Tundra Double Cab SR5, 4.6L 2WD . Fit perfectly to the already existing wiring in the bumper and snapped right into the hole. It's not listed as OEM for the Tundra, but sure fits like OEM. When I called the dealer to inquire about the part, I was quoted $279 and the parts guy couldn't guarantee the fit--comical. I haven't checked it with a test light yet, but it fit so well, that I cannot imagine it not working properly. ETrailer's customer service is perfect. Thanks guys! 198443
Not a single issue with plug adapter. Ive pulled many, many times this year and I love that I can hook up both of the most standard type plugs. Thanks, ETrailer!

Shipping was on point, no hassle from picking the correct part to adding in cart to check out all the way to actually receiving my product. Once I got it the installation it took like 2 minutes literally. The only issue I have is that the support Brackett is a "L" shape bracket and the 2016 GMC Sierra's don't have anywhere to actually bolt it into, however, the manufactures flat Brackett works all the same just connected the 7way port into the harness of truck then pushed locked it into the bumper. All in all was done in under 2minutes. Very please thus far 295995

Nice and easy to do, plug and play. I tried to use the screws that came with the kit but they didn't work for me. I ended up using some bolts and nylock nuts to put it on. Yes you can fit a wrench up in that slot in the bumper('06 Sierra.) 143081

I just purchased a new 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.3 L V6, 8ft bed, base model truck, with no options. The truck is rated to tow a 5900 lbs trailer with a CGVW limit of 11000 lbs. I will be towing a Lance 1985 travel trailer, that weighs in around 4500 lbs wet. With excellent reviews and outstanding installation videos from etrailer.com, I ordered the Curt C14006 class IV hitch; the Tekonsha proportional Prodigy P3 brake controller; the Tekonsha plug-in wiring adapter specified for my truck; Cipa custom slip-on towing mirrors; and the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket - HM40975 specified for my truck. All new Chevy Silverado 1500's (even the base model with no options) comes from the factory pre-wired with a basic seven wire trailer towing harness already installed. Everything electric just plugged in without a single cut or splice of the wiring or any other wiring modifications. I just followed the instructions in the excellent installation videos on the etrailer.com website. The hitch installed quickly and lined up perfectly with factory bolt holes already on the truck frame, no drilling required. Finally I slipped on the Cipa custom towing mirrors and I was ready to tow after about two hours work. If I would have ordered my truck with a factory tow package, integrated brake controller, and extendable towing mirrors, the options would have run me slightly over $1450 on a new Chevy truck. Instead, I spent two hours of my own time doing the installations and paid about $550 for all the parts by ordering by from etrailer.com. Nice savings. You need to have a good set of socket and open end wrenches, including a torque wrench adjustable to a minimum of 110 ft/lbs for the hitch bolts. Spend some time and review all the installation videos for the parts that you need to order. I just received my package from Etrailer.com and it was nice to open the box and have the right part/part I ordered arrive. Opened up the box staged my parts and started the install. It was very easy with the instructions that were sent and the video on their site that anyone can do this install with no issues. Hitch was on in no less than 15 mins from opening of the box to final torquing of the bolts. The customer service at this company is top notch. I have never had anyone from a company email me before after ordering from them like I did with this company and in business today you are seeing less and less of this type of customer care and service. AWESOME job Guys and Gals I will buy all my accessories from here. 90754

Great product. Very easy to install. The hardest part of the installation was unplugging the factory harness from the factory connector socket due to the grime build up. A cordless impact driver makes installing the self tapping screws a breeze. The entire installation took approximately 10 min. 82146

This is an excellent product, well designed and constructed. So far I have not installed it because the receptacle cannot be used on my 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 WT even though I have the factory plug in the dummy receptacle see pictures. Presently, I looking at my options. 421330

2015 GMC 1500 bought new no hitch or trailer plug went to dealer for trailer plug could not find plug in parts system said they would have to call Tec support. Left disappointed. Found E TRAILER had part (in stock) and video how to install found excellent for someone that doesn't have much mechanical skill (I'm 20 years in automotive). Have not been able to install yet due to ice build up from snow on frame. Very pleased and will be telling everyone about ETRAILER and will be ordering when I need parts, 235434
Finally got trailer plug installed many camping trips and no problems at all took less than 5minutes to install

So the new bracket is a little different than the old one as you can see in the pictures I’ve got it mounted the way it is. For the time being. But I’m gonna have to make another bracket to get it up and back so it doesn’t stick down so low. I checked your website and didn’t see a bracket like this. 494917

I searched for days for something like this to work on my 2014 Chevy Silverado that did not have the factory tow package. I couldn't find anything, until I read a previous review with photos from another reviewer. Dont be fooled by the "item photo" and the "sideways position in the photo" , the bracket shown is for mounting elsewhere if desired. This item was a simple unplug the fake factory blank plug and plug in this real one installation you can do at home. This item fits perfect. Take a look at the previous review photos etc. Regular shipping was very fast. 144612
Still works great

I really like this product. I like that the 7 blade and the 4pin plugs are internally wired. It is truley a 'plug-n-play' unit and even has corrosion preventitive in the pins. The reason I did not give this kit an 'excellent' rating is the mount bracket is too short. This required that a use a 1 inch spacer and longer bolt to attach the mount so the trailer plug could be inserted. 31977

Excellent price $50.00 cheaper than OEM. Easy installation. Unplugged wiring from OEM blank cover, installed new bumper plug taking approximately 5 minutes. 163380
Good as new

Good quality and installation was easy enough. It would be nice if the clocking of the notch for the rear connector from the vehicle would line up with the notch for the trailer connector. This would make wire tracing a lot easier. The wiring color-to-color connections for a 2002 Sierra do not match the connections for the 2002 Silverado as shown in the video but a few minutes with a voltmeter and the wife flipping levers was all it took to find the right match-up. 120751

This is a great idea. I want to be able to use either type of plug--this does that. But I'll have a big hassle mating up the other side. I'm looking for a connector or else I'll have to solder and carefully shrink wrap all the connectors. it would be great if a pig tail was provided. It is designed for OEM applications for Ford Dodge and GM. I am putting it on a Volvo 240 Wagon. Most of the time I pull very small boat trailers. I have one bigger trailer that is 1900 lbs and wired with a 7 prong connector so I can use utility lights and trailer backup lights. This is a very nice quality connector. I just think it is STUPID not to sell it with a wiring pigtail. 18334
A pigtail can be purchased for this connector. In fact, we do have it bundle with the pigtail.
