Trailer Wiring Harness for 2015 GMC Canyon

Updated 06/08/2020 | Published 03/01/2016

Question:

I have a 2015 GMC canyon. Bought used so dont know if it came with tow package. What is the difference? I saw a dummy plug on my bumper I could push out and then put your Hopkins custom fit plug in. If I buy that and also the custom fit wiring will that work?

If your 2015 GMC Canyon has the factory-installed tow package the truck will have an actual 7-way trailer socket at the rear bumper rather than the punch-out plate. You can still check under the back bumper for any wiring/connectors. If you find a round U.S. Car connector (see photo) then you can install a 7-way/4-pole socket # HM40975. The vehicle connector will plug right in to the back of the Hopkins.

The 4-pole harness you referenced, part # C55384 from Curt, also uses these same U.S. Car connectors for installation.

If you do not have any connectors under the bumper, or if you have some other type, please let me know and include photos. You may need to install some fuses in the engine compartment to activate the trailer/towing circuits.

There's most likely a blown fuse under the hood. On your Canyon check the F50 location inside the fuse box (that specific location will be shown on the underside of the lid).
