Features to know about

Saves Space Under the Dash: Clean, Hidden Install

Bulky brake boxes don’t belong in the driver’s knee space. The Curt Echo Under-Dash Bluetooth Brake Controller keeps things tidy by mounting a 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick control unit out of sight beneath the dash. Everything you need is inside the box—no knobs or displays sticking out. With the plug-and-play harness and included adhesive pad and zip ties, setup stays simple, clean, and clutter-free.

Curt Echo under-dash Bluetooth brake controller main unit with LED indicator and wiring connectors for plug-and-play installation.

Controls Everything from Your Phone: Bluetooth and OneControl App

No extra hardware crowding your dash—your smartphone becomes the control center. Through Bluetooth connection and the OneControl app, you handle brake output, sensitivity, and even manual override right from your screen. The app works without needing cell data once paired, supports both Apple (5.0 and newer) and Android (4.3 and newer), and even stores multiple trailer profiles so you can switch between setups fast.

Delivers Smooth Braking Power: True Proportional Control

Rough stops and jerky pulls disappear with proportional braking. The built-in 3-axis accelerometer senses how hard the tow vehicle slows and matches the trailer’s braking power accordingly. It works with 1 to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies) and supports electric trailer brakes for steady, even deceleration every time.

Installs Fast with Plug-and-Play Harness: No Splicing Required

Traditional controllers mean cutting wires or awkward mounting angles. Here, a custom connector plugs directly into the factory port under the dash—no hardwiring needed. Once it’s connected, pair your phone via Bluetooth, wait for the LED to turn solid blue, plug in your trailer’s 7-way, and you’re ready to tow after a quick calibration. The system automatically sets itself up at any mounting angle for accurate braking.

Keeps You Towing Safely: Built-In Protection and Easy Diagnostics

Smart safeguards like reverse polarity and short-circuit protection keep wiring safe from damage. Diagnostic LEDs on the unit make troubleshooting simple at a glance. Even if Bluetooth drops out mid-trip, the controller keeps braking normally using your last saved settings—so you stay in control wherever you go.

Specs

Application

  • Application: trailers with 1 to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies)
  • Compatible with: electric trailer brakes

Dimensions

  • Main unit dimensions: 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick

Smart Device Requirements

  • Apple OS requirements: 5.0 and newer
  • Android OS requirements: 4.3 and newer

Smartphone screen showing Curt Echo OneControl app interface with labeled braking controls including manual override, brake output indicator, and sensitivity adjustment.

  • Manual Override: This big orange button in the middle of the app is your manual override. Press and hold the button, and the brake controller will smoothly apply the trailer brakes without applying your vehicle's brakes. This is perfect for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in an emergency.
  • Brake Output Indicator: The outer ring gives you a visual indicator of how much power is being applied to the trailer brakes. This is determined by your max output setting.
  • Max Output: Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop.
  • Sensitivity Level: This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the max output level.
  • Vehicle Hazard Lights: If you turn on your vehicle's hazard lights, there's a chance the trailer brakes will pulse on and off as the lights flash. Turn this setting on any time you activate your hazard lights to prevent this problem.

Warranty

  • Brake controller: Limited lifetime
  • Wiring harness: Limited 1-year

Note

  • Note: If Bluetooth connection is lost, the brake controller will continue to function safely, using the most recently programmed settings. This brake controller is not compatible, but will not interfere, with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

What is Proportional Braking?

Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The brake controller video was very helpful. I made my choice, ordered it and received free of confusion. Thanks go to etrailer.

by: John 01/26/2022

Installed the controller under the dash out of the way. Downloading and setting up the app was easy. I have set a profile for my trailer loaded and empty. This is a nice feature.
The app stays open while driving, so the manual brake button is visible, and easy to access, if needed.

This is the second of these units I have purchased and installed. The quick connect ends make it soooo easy, just plug the matching ends together (NO splicing wires). I highly recommended this unit with the pigtail extender

by: Larry W01/22/2016

This product was perfect for my use. The wiring harness worked just as I was told and very easy to install. I have bought several items from etrailer and everything has been good quality. The items arrive in good working working condition and in a timely manner.
Etrailer employees are very helpful and professional.

Brake controller and adaptor installed and connected in less than 10 minutes, I am very happy with the purchase and the included instructions and information.

The Curt Echo is now on my Nissan Armada and works perfectly. It was an easy hookup with the supplied harness and does its job.

Don’t even know it’s there, set it and forget it.

I recently bought a Kurt trailer brake controller with adaptor. I have to say, that it was the easiest thing to hook up. The product was also shipped to my home very fast. I did not think I was going to receive the package until the next week, but it came just in time to use it the following day for my work. i Love ordering products from etrailer, I have only had really great service and good products from them. I will for sure, order from them again.

by: Lewis02/17/2022

I bought a weight distribution hitch w|sway control, and a trailer brake controller for my Four Winds RV. I received my order today, within a few days of placing the order. I have not installed it yet but it appears to be user friendly. Both pieces are made by Curt so the quality & performance should be good.
My thanks to etrailer & Stacy??

This is the old obsolete model of Curt Echo which has to be installed under the dashboard. The newer version, which attaches to the electrical system in the rear of the vehicle, is superior and now preferred by most trailer owners. The above version should be taken off the catalog.

by: JimB 08/26/2024

This is my first proportional brake controller. Stopping is much smoother without sacrificing safety. Communication by bluetooth makes for a clean installation.

This controller took me literally 15 minutes to install with the required pigtail and my Rubicon with factory towing package installed. When I initially downloaded the app and connected, it actuated and locked the brakes. I simple deleted the app and reinstalled and everything worked normal.

by: Chris10/03/2022

Was not aware this device draws on the battery constantly. I don't daily drive my truck and have had to replace the battery twice in one month due to being drained below the point where they could be recharged. $[XX] later and this controller removed, I've not had any problems with the battery

by: Scott09/18/2022

This brake controller has to be unplugged when not in use or it drains the battery in a few days. I had to have a electrical test done in my vehicle ($XXX). The etrailer tech said the test was done incorrectly. The Chevy dealer claims it was accurate. I’m left with a problem.

by: Earl 08/21/2023

Needed a brake controller I could rely on because I was pulling my camper to a site at the top of a 25% grade within a few days. Unit plugged right into the harness for the factory brake controller (with the adapter cable) on my 2014 Ford F-150,and worked perfectly. Bluetooth connectivity works through the app (rather than through the phone's "settings" icon),and connects instantly. I'm very pleased with this product.

by: Patrick03/28/2022

As first time truck and pop-up trailer users, we initially purchased a cheaper brake controller that required drilling the dash. This is a new truck, so we decided to switch and spend more for the Bluetooth. etrailer was easy to work with for a return, and the Bluetooth brake controller is fantastic - so easy to use with our new trailer!

by: Chris 08/20/2022

I really wanted a trailer brake controller that I didn’t have to stick an ugly knob/box hanging off my dash. This was my solution and it works perfectly. Plugged right into my Honda Ridgeline existing plug, and easily connected to the app on my phone. Nice setup.

by: Paul08/29/2022

I was looking for a trailer brake controller that did not require a permanent mounting to the dash or center console of my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I initially considered the wireless bluetooth controller from Curt Echo that plugs directly into the 7-pin outlet next to the tow hitch. However, reviews from individuals that tow RV trailers identified that particular option prevents the 12v battery on the trailer from charging off of the TV while connected. This would limit the RV utilization during long trips involving boondocking.
The Curt Echo under-dash controller seems to solve that problem and uses the same user interface as the Curt Echo.
Easy to install and operate; problem solved!

by: Michael 04/05/2023

Easiest install ever !
Plug and play.
App is easy understand and use.
My favorite is with the app and on selected active profile you can see the amount of brake amount is being applied to the trailer when the vehicle brakes are applied. I also install the manual override button. FYI: you don’t need the app on your phone open for the controller or the manual override button to work. Also another nice feature of the manual override button is the size about the size of a quarter, uses a CR2032 battery and the battery level is displayed in the app.

by: James 12/19/2023

This was relatively easy to install under the dash of our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially since ours has the factory Trailer Tow Package and therefore an existing pigtail connector ready to connect to the brake controller. The Curt wiring adapter made it super easy to connect the Brake Controller to the vehicle's wiring harness. The controller was easy to calibrate and worked seamlessly while we're towing a rented trailer. We used a dedicated (older) cell phone to operate it while we're towing to avoid any potential interference from other apps rather than using our regular phone on which we receive phone calls texts, etc. This was our first time towing a trailer and this easy-to-use Brake Controller helped make us feel safe and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Ford 2013 F250.. This brake controller fit like a glove. I have a 2013 F250 and I finally found the plug behind the coin box on the dash. It fit just right and after I finally found where the factory plug was and routed all the wiring behind the dash it took about about 15 minutes to get everything working. I have use e-trailer for several projects and the shipping is amazing and they totally understand what they are doing. Thanks to all at e-trailer.

by: Alan03/12/2024

Do not buy either the Curt Under-Dash or plug-in Wireless brake controllers until Lippert fixes the phone app. I’ve used both happily with the old ECHO Smart Control app. I could use the remote manual button with the phone app not even running. As one would reasonably expect the button talked to the controller directly via Bluetooth. The new OneControl Auto app must be running and in the foreground to use the manual remote! And the most recent version of ECHO Smart Control is non-functional, it just tells you to install OneControl Auto.

by: Matthew 11/25/2023

The break controller worked seamlessly. Profiles are easy to set up and it has very reliable Bluetooth connectivity with my phone. Installation was really easy on my Honda Pilot!

by: Brian03/25/2026

Wiring adapter worked great, AFTER I re-pinned 2 out of 4 of the connections to line up with my 2022 Ford E-350 cutaway harness correctly.

  • Wiring Brake Controller to Under Dash Wiring of 2021 Ford Ranger
We had the chance to install a brake controller in a similar Ranger as your 2021 model and when using standard brake controller wiring like with the # C51515 to install the Curt Echo Mobile # C27JR the yellow/orange goes to the black wire, the blue wire is going to go to the blue wire, the white wire is going to go to the white wire, and the violet with white stripe goes to the red wire.

Generally when the Curt Echo Under-Dash # C27JR says the 7-way is disconnected but it isn't, the issue is actually the 7-way is problematic, either on your vehicle or trailer. I'd check to make sure the 7-way on both does not have bent pins, or corroded or damaged in some way.

Your Curt Discovery Trailer Brake Controller C51120 should have installed on your Ford Forest River 3050S with the Wiring Adapter # C51432 so the wiring shouldn't be incorrect, and the Anti Theft system shouldn't be connected to a brake controller circuit at all.
