  • Vertical load limit: 4,500 lbs

  • Travel: 12" front to back

Quiet, Secure Ride

The 3/4" thick jaw on the Patriot is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Patriot has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Patriot is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Easily Adjustable Design

The B&W Patriot can be adjusted up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can easily accommodate the height of your trailer.

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Patriot allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Video Transcript for B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Head Assembly Replacement Review

Hello, neighbors, this is Brad here at "etrailer," and today, we're taking a look at the BMW Patriot replacement head assembly for the Patriot fifth wheel. Now whether you're replacing a damaged head that you had on your Patriot, or you just wanna refresh what you currently have, or even if you have a bunch of trucks in the fleet, and don't wanna buy the whole assembly, you can simply swap this head back and forth to each vehicle, and having that replacement head is a great option. That way you're not having to buy the full fifth wheel kit. Now it's gonna have all the same functions as the previous Patriot head that you had. So you still have that locking jaw, you still have that nice handles to drop it in place. It goes around those urethane bushings, and overall, just a great head.

If you've ever used a Patriot before, you know right away that it's really great to use. It's super easy and it articulates enough. So even on unlevel ground hooking up or unhooking is no problem. And just as you did before to drop your new head on, it's gonna go on just like you had your previous fifth wheel. (metal clanking) Just right there.

Drop in place, pull your handle back, hook up to your kingpin, and you're ready to go. Now this is gonna be a perfect replacement for the 18K that we have here, as well as your sliding 18K and also the 16K. Now as you've probably seen before, BMW has that nice gray powder coat finish, and it feels durable and feels great. All the touchpoints are really nice on here. And your cam-actuating handle here is really nice for that jaw.

It's gonna cut down on rattling around as like your slide pin normally would. And it also has that nice security, the fact that it goes all the way around that kingpin. Now this is rated at 18,000 pounds, so again, it's a direct replacement for this one here. But if you have a 16,000 base, just because this is rated at 18,000, you're gonna want to go with that lower number just to stay safe. You also have that vertical limit or load of 4,500 pounds.

And that was a look at the BMW replacement head assembly for the Patriot fifth wheel.

  • Can 5th Wheel Rails Be Installed In A Bed That Already Has A Gooseneck Hitch Installed?
Hi Joe! Already having a gooseneck hitch in the bed of your 2006 Dodge Ram will complicate things. The B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # BWRVK2600 cannot be installed as the brackets install in the same place as the gooseneck and will cause issues, so that's a no go. We do have the Curt X5 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches - 20,000 lbs # 16310 that will fit in the gooseneck, but this cannot be used with auto sliding hitches, which the...

  • Compatible B&W Base Rail Kit For A 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Long Bed With Overload Springs
No, for a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 with overload springs you'll need the B&W Semi-Custom 5th Wheel Installation Kit for Dodge Ram # BWRVR3202-00 instead. This will come with different brackets to work around your overload springs. These rails don't include the pins and clips needed to lock your B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 to the rails so you'll want to also pick up part # 6014 if you don't currently have the ones that came with the hitch.

  • Will B&W 5th Wheel Rail Kit Fit a Pullrite Superglide 2700 and 2012 Ram 2500 Mega Cab
Since your Pullrite Superglide 2700 is one of the ISR models it will fit on the B&W installation kit # BWRVK2600 which does feature industry standard rails. And the rail kit is a fit for your 2012 Ram 2500 Mega Cab. So you will be good to go! I also recommend installing a 7-Way trailer connector in the bed of the truck using # 41157. It will tee into the factory 7-Way at the back of the truck. Having a 7-Way in the truck bed makes it easier to connect a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer....

  • Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for Valley 7054 5th Wheel Hitch 2006 Dodge Ram Pickup
For your Valley 7054 5th Wheel Hitch you will simply need to install a set of ISR base rails. I recommend using a custom fit base rail kit on your 2006 Ram 2500 such as the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches, # BWRVK2600. The advantage of using a custom-fit bracket kit is that it mounts to existing holes in your vehicle's frame. This minimizes drilling and measuring which reduces installation time and most importantly it avoids known obstacles along...

The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Dual Jaws at 18,000 lbs. # BWRVK3255, is a great choice. Assuming that your current hitch is mounted to industry-standard, above-bed base rails, this will attach right to your existing rails without issue. Otherwise you will need either the B&W Semi-Custom 5th Wheel Installation Kit for Dodge Ram, # BWRVR3202-00 or B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails, # BWRVK2600. I recommend going with the Custom option # BWRVK2600 since it will be a...

  • Can 16k Fifth Wheel Hitch Tow 14k Fifth Wheel Trailer
A 16k fifth wheel hitch would easily have enough capacity for a trailer that would weigh at it's most 14k. Going with an 18k hitch would have no drawbacks but the extra capacity just wouldn't be needed. So if you wanted to use the 16k Patriot hitch part # BWRVK3200 instead of the 18k part # BWRVK3255 you could. The rail kit you would need either way is the part # BWRVK2600.

The normal towing position would be with the center section closest to the cab whereas the extended position for making tight turns would be with the center section slid back furthest away from the cab and should only be used while maneuver in tight spaces. If I follow correctly, you have a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 6 foot 3 inch box. Our site shows "6-1/2 Foot Bed" and you are concerned about installing the B&W Base Rails, # BWRVK2600. It's perfectly acceptable to mix and match the hitch from one manufacturer with the install bracket/rail kit from another manufacturer but you DO NOT want to mix frame brackets and bed rails from different manufacturers. I'm assuming you already have the # BWRVK3270? If not, it's not necessary to use a sliding hitch in a long bed truck. I'd recommend using the stationary version, part # BWRVK3255 for an 18K capacity or # BWRVK3200 for the 16K hitch. If you already have the hitch, you can certainly still install it in your 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 using the # BWRVK2600 custom install kit, but you'll want to be sure to keep the slider in the forward-most position at all times. The B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3700 is perfectly compatible with cushioned pin boxes like your MORryde RP072-1621HD, so the clunking you're experiencing isn't related to the two components being incompatible. With that being said, the Companion 5th Wheel Hitches feature one of the nicest jaw designed on the market, so this clunking during starts and stops isn't exactly normal, either. One thing I might check first is that the brakes are engaging properly on the trailer....

  • B&W Rails And Hitch For A 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty
Hi Jeremy! B&W does indeed have an option for your 2001 Ford F250. The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider and Universal Install Kit - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BW38XR is a sliding hitch, which is recommended for short bed trucks, and comes with ISR (Industry Standard Rails) universal rails # BWRVR3200. These rails will require a bit of drilling into the frame of your truck, but we do have an option that is a much easier install (though not from B&W). The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel...

  • Base Rails for 2012 GMC Sierra 2500 With B&W Patriot
Hey Lydia! I'm assuming you got the B&W Patriot # BWRVK3270 which fits industry standard rails (ISR). Is that correct? Assuming it is, you can use the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWRVK2506. These are specifically designed for your 2012 GMC Sierra 2500 and will work with any 5th wheel hitch that fits ISR rails. As long as you have a standard pin box you don't need any special attachment to use the Patriot with your 5th wheel.

  • What is the 5th Wheel Towing Capacity of a 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500
The manufacturer only specifies a conventional trailer towing capacity for a 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500/2019 GMC Sierra 1500 which can range from 6,700 lbs to 12,200 lbs depending on options. The 5th wheel towing capacity is only available on the 2500HD and 3500HD models however that's not to say you cannot tow a 5th wheel trailer with the 1500 model but this will not increase from the conventional trailer towing capacity. With that being said, you really ought to look into a 2500HD or 3500HD...

  • Will The B&W Patriot Slider Fit Reese 5th Wheel Rails?
Hi Ronnie! The B&W # BW38XR actually comes with rails and universal brackets, so it isn't the one you will need (unless you wanted the extra rails for something else). The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3270 is just the hitch and will definitely fit your Reese rails! Reese, as well as B&W and most others, follow an industry standard for above bed rails, so there are no worries there. What kind of trailer are you towing?

  • Can a Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Be Used With a Short Bed 2019 GMC Sierra 3500
I do not, Ed. But what I can tell you is that if you don't have a rotating pin box that you need a sliding 5th wheel in order to get the clearance needed for 90 degree turns. If you don't use a sliding hitch, and you don't have a rotating pin box, then your 5th wheel is almost certainly going to hit your truck's cab. If you're looking for suggestions, the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 with the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer...

Hi Jerry! The Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches 50081 (our part # RP50081) are a fit for a 2004 to 2014 Ford F150, in case you were curious. I was. With that said, the rails to go along with them will be the Reese Universal Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10 Bolt # RP58058. This includes the hardware needed to attach them to the frame brackets as well. As to the sliding hitch, I recommend going with the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch...

  • Adapting Patriot 5th Wheel Hitch to 2025 GMC 3500 With OEM Prep Package
Hi Bob; is your Patriot the slider # BWRVK3270 you looked at or the fixed # BWRVK3255? I know you said fixed mount hitch but since you looked at the slider I want to be sure. If it is the fixed hitch you can use the Adapter Rails for Curt 5th Wheel Hitch # C88KR. If it is the slider there are no adapters available that will allow you to use it with your new 2025 Sierra 3500. The design of the Patriot slider doesn't have enough clearance for it to work with an adapter. The only option...

  • Comparing the B&W Patriot and Demco Hijacker AutoSlide Sliding 5th Wheel Hitches
We do not offer the Pullrite brand but in my research it does appear to compare to our Demco Hijacker AutoSlide like # DM8550024. Both the B&W and Demco 5th wheel hitches are great for the short bed user. What will make the difference is the clearance needed by the user to have adequate turning clearance. For me personally also effort. I have personally had to slide the B&W 5th wheel hitch # BWRVK3270 and it was by far one of the easiest, by a landslide, since the unit was built with...

  • Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel HItch & Rails For 2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty
First, let's start with if you can use a sliding hitch in a long bed, and yes you definitely can, you simply won't use the slide feature but otherwise it will work exactly the same. As for the hitch and base rails, I highly recommend the B&W Patriot, with the correct parts for your 2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty being the following: - B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 - B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # BWRVK2402 I really like the Patriot because there just...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Weight Compared to Truck Payload Capacity for Safely Towing with 2019 Ram 1500
The 2018 Forest River Wildcat 28sgx will not be an issue for you to tow. The payload of your truck is slightly different than the hitch weight of your 5th wheel trailer. The reason for the difference is that the payload is based on the bed itself and the strength distributed over the frame whereas the 5th wheel base rails or factory pucks are directly bolted to the frame and have a much higher weight capacity because they aren't simply dispersed over the sheet metal and are directly mounted...

  • Can B and W Patriot Fifth Wheel Hitch be Used in Bed of 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 Long Bed
The part # BWRVB3270 is just the slider base of the slider Patriot hitch part # BWRVK3270 which could fit in the bed of your 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed as long as you had a standard set of fifth wheel rails installed. Which for that you'd just need the part # BWRVR3200 and you'd be set. Since you have a long bed truck you really wouldn't need a slider hitch since the slider hitches are designed to give better turning clearance. A better option would be the fixed Patriot part # BWRVK3255...

Are you referring to the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider part # BWRVK3270? I have attached a review video for you to show this.

  • Comparing Short Bed Trucks to Long Bed Trucks to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer
Short bed trucks work well to pull 5th wheel trailers, but they require a sliding hitch like the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3270 which will work well with your trailer. This hitch has 12 inches of travel between the locked towing position and the rear locked turning position for maneuvering around gas pumps and such that require greater turning clearances. There are some hitches like the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550034 that will...
