B&W Rails And Hitch For A 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty

Updated 09/03/2025 | Published 08/17/2025

Question:

Im looking to get a 5th wheel hitch for my 2001 ford f250 super duty, short bed 6.75 ft. Does BandW rail kit made for my year/model truck? Was wanting to get the 16k or 18k version as my truck is limited to the 10.5k GVWR on RVs At least what I think it is. Anyway any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jeremy!

B&W does indeed have an option for your 2001 Ford F250. The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider and Universal Install Kit - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BW38XR is a sliding hitch, which is recommended for short bed trucks, and comes with ISR (Industry Standard Rails) universal rails # BWRVR3200. These rails will require a bit of drilling into the frame of your truck, but we do have an option that is a much easier install (though not from B&W).

The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ford F250 and F350 - Carbide Finish # C16443-204 will be a significantly easier install and are also ISR rails, so pretty much any 5th wheel hitch will fit. They are a little more expensive, but I think it worth it.

If you decide to go that way, you can get just the sliding hitch with part # BWRVK3270 or the fixed 16k hitch with part # BWRVK3200 or 18k # BWRVK3255. If you wanted to do the full B&W kit with the universal rails and fixed hitch, the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Universal Install Kit - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # BW26XR is the full kit.

What will you be towing?

Awesome! That's what I needed to know and would work for us. The rails from Curt, and then most likely one of the fixed hitches from B&W. The sliding kit is a great option if we go that route. We aren't sure which 5th wheel to get just yet, but planning ahead of that within our weight limits. Leaning towards the Alliance 23ML or Jayco SLE...want to keep it around the 30ft range. Thank you, Lazer, for the info!!

@JeremyH You're very welcome! Glad to hear someone else follows the 6 Ps of Success (Proper Previous Planning Prevents Poor Performance). : ) Let me know which you decide to go with and if you have any other questions!

@LazerS So we went with the 2026 Alliance Avenue 23ML for the RV. I’d like to get the Pullrite Superglide 16k. The auto glide on turns and getting into tight camp sites is a feature that’ll reduce any “don’t hit the cab” moments. I purchased the ISR rails from eTrailer as you suggested, could you point me to the hitch and which capture plate part that’s needed on the Alliance kingpin? Thanks again for the help!

@Jeremy Nice choice! The auto slide feature with the PullRite SuperGlide hitches is definitely nice. For the 16k that will fit those Curt rails, you will want the # PUL93RR. For the capture plate, it looks like your new Alliance comes with a Curt Rota-Flex pin box. I would double check this to make sure, but if it is indeed a Rota-Flex, you will need the # PUL38RR and you are good to go! Have your first trip with your new stuff planned yet?
