Video Transcript for Bargman Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring - 50-97-410 Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at part #50-97-410. This is the Bargman 5th Wheel Gooseneck 90 degree Wiring Harness with a 7 pole plug. This unit's going to enable hassle free hookup of your 5th wheel and gooseneck trailers using the 7-way RV style connector. The harness is going to measure 9 feet long. The wires are insulated and this harness is going to easily reach from the rear bumper of your vehicle to inside your truck bed. The adapter head is designed with a 90 degree angle to fit into tight spaces in the truck bed side rails, and it's going to be constructed of flame resistant material.

It's got the nice spring loaded cap here on the plug, and then internally, right here, on the underside of the lid, we're going to have a nice gasket. It's going to create a nice tight seal to keep out dirt, moisture, and debris from affecting the connection points. Here at the back, you're going to have the molded on cable. This is going to protect the wiring from water and debris, and then you're going to have 9 feet of length. Here on the other end, we're going to have the connection points to plug between the OAM wiring harness and the factoring installed 7-way connector. Now this unit does require that your vehicle has a factory tow package with a 7-pole trailer connector.

With this installed, it still retains the use of your factory 7-pole connector at the rear of your vehicle, so it's not going to interfere in any way. This right here is going to be our mounting spacer, and it's going to come with self tapping screws. These are going to be stainless steel construction, and those are included for installation. Again your harness length is 9 feet long. Inside your harness, you're going to have 3 different wire gauges. You're black and white wire's going to be gauge 10, blue wire's going to be gauge 12, brown, red, green, and yellow's going to be gauge 14.

Now keep in mind, on some vehicles you may need to add a fuse or a relay to complete all the functions going to the 7-way. Those items are sold separately. Very simple installation though, all you have to do is T the harness into your vehicle's factory 7-way trailer connector. That's going to be mounted under the bumper of your vehicle. The 7-way connector on this harness then mounts in the truck bed side rail, close to your hitch for quick, easy hookup. Now the instructions are going to be included.

They're going to be very detailed. They're going to walk you through the installation process step-by-step. The instructions are going to recommend using a 2" hole saw to create the hole in the truck bed for your plug to sit in. Now you can easily just use the self tapping screws to mount this connector directly to the truck bed side rail or you can use the spacer in between the 7-way plug and the truck bed if the 90 degree bend, right here at the corner, is too close to the outside wall of the truck bed. Simply add in that spacer, and that's going to resolve that issue. Now if the vehicle has a bed liner, it may need to be notched or you could use some longer screws if these ones aren't long enough, and then you can mount directly into the bed liner and body panel. If you do need longer screws, those are going to be sold separately. Those are not included with this part number. That's going to do it for today's review of part #50-97-410. This is the Bargman 5th Wheel and Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness with a 7-pole plug. .

Mounting this extension in my 2016 F350 4X4 long bed was a breeze and the angled plug made the clearance easy to install. Snapped into the factory harness and everything works and looks great. 444047

Showed up sooner than expected, very easy installation, the direct plug in fit perfectly. (Use a 2 1/8" hole saw) I definitely recommend this product!!!! 575803

This harness was very easy to install. The only concern is the wires not encapsulated all the way. I wrapped the remaining wire in plastic loom. Pig tail ends snapped right in to factory harness. 55186

Everything was just as described, found the e-trailer video online to help with installation. Fairly easy project. This kit had a stronger looking cable that is why I got it. 553423

Delivery and order process were very good. Product quality seems pretty low with a significant part of the wiring harness simply wrapped in electrical tape for about 6-8" from both of the connector plugs. Installation instructions were EXTREMELY POOR! The directions call for a 2" diameter hole in the bed and then send the two connectors and the wire all through the hole. IMPOSSIBLE! The small plug is about 2" diameter by itself, plus it has a locking tab on the side that adds about 1/4" to the diameter. On top of that there are the wires to the long plug that also must fit through the hole at the same time. That adds about another 1/4" or more. The net result is you need to create an oblong hole with about 3/4" x 3/4" additional clearance to even begin to fit everything through. NOT easy after the 2" hole is there.... more drilling, filing, cutting, and magic words required. NOT HAPPY!! With a little planning you might be able to use a hole saw and cut an overlapping 1" hole before doing the 2" and that might have worked. Factory should figure this out and tell you the proper hole requirements! Next, the instructions have figure "H" that shows a loose connector plug supposedly in the wiring harness......don't waste your time looking for it 'cause it doesn't exist! A nice picture of the back end of the bumper-mounted 7-pin connector would have made this pretty simple. Figured it out after exhausting my search efforts. Also it might be nice if they included a little dielectric grease to treat the plugs. They will all be hanging in a wet road-salt environment so how long will they last?? Time will tell... 500639

The last 5th wheel extension harness I bought (Hopkins brand) failed in 5 years use, the Mfgr splices corroded and failed. This one from Bargeman is more robust, I am hoping for better results. The splice areas are still exposed to weather/road spray under the truck, so I will still keep an eye on them. 140971

The assembly instructions were clear and straight forward. The only issue I had was my own mistake of picking a poor location to drill a hole with a brace behind it the first go round. A handful of heavy duty zip ties included in the kit would have been helpful to complete the installation and securing the harness. 240371

This is the third fifth wheel plug kit I have ordered from etrailer. First was for my 98 dodge, second was for my 2012 silverado which I just traded in for anew 2018 silverado 2500hd. I ordered the the 9 foot plug assy thinking I might install the plug in the left front corner of my box but ended up installing it back in the same spot as my 2012 which is right over the left rear tire by the middle stake pocket. in reality I could have got away with the 7 foot harness instead and would havent of had to loop 2 feet of harness but it was no big deal to hide 2 feet under the truck in a big lazy loop. Drop your spare as it is right up to the back of your factory trailer connection in the rear bumper. no would be a good time to lube your spare tire winch and associated parts. Drill your 2 inch hole like in the video, I sealed the fresh cut metal with sealer to stop rust and stuffed the wire in and rear ward. It slid down the inner wheel well and dumped out by the rear bumper on to the floor. Route your wire up over the frame, staying clear of the rear spring, stay on top of the frame and cross members so when you raise the spare back up it dosent get damaged. Pull your factory plug lock like in the video and put it aside. Unplug the connection, grease up all connections with dielectric grease and plug and play, install your factory lock and secure your wire, reinstall you r spare and you are done. it was too late in the evening for power tests so it will get done this week end when i install the bed rail kit for the fifth wheel. with 3 feet of snow in front of the trailer I cant hook up to it to tests lights right now. Sales person was very helpfull ordering parts with me double checking part numbers as we went along, parts came delivered in acceptable time frame. so far I give e-trailer 2 forks, a knife and spoon for great service! 495709

Wish the harness was 3 foot shorter, but it’s universal. Works great easy to install, it’d be nice if the harness had the same secondary lock like the factory harness. I’d order it again! 452689

Nice product and works well, but there needs to be something in the instructions about the mounting location. I mounted it one "rib" further towards the front of the bed than what was in the video. I didn't want it getting damage from cleaning bark and lawn debris out of the bed with shovels and rakes hitting it. Well, no matter how hard I pulled and as straight a shot as I could do, it was a couple inches short of reaching the back plug in, so I had to splice in a foot of wire to make everything fit. Make sure you use the location that is posted in the mounting video. 309660

Product is well designed and easy to install. Nice heavy wiring! Plugs worked well. I removed the Ford factory 7 wire/ 4 wire trailer plug from the bracket to allow easier unplugging of the factory wiring harness and proper alignment for plugging in the Bargeman wiring harness. The 2" mounting hole the instructions recommend in the inner bed panel is extremely tight to get the second plug through but can be accomplished with patience and careful manipulation. A 2-1/16" hole saw would be better but is a specialized size not available at most consumer outlets. In hindsight, I would file a small notch in the 2" hole to accommodate the connector tab on the second plug and allow easier passage of the plug. The 90 degree molded cable behind the bed connector is a good design feature and should eliminate future connectivity issues you might encounter with a straight harness. Highly recommend! 183764

The depth of the 90 degree elbow on the bed connector makes it difficult to find a suitable mounting location in my 2016 F-250. It is 3-1/2” deep from flange to elbow, and the included spacer only reduces that by about 1/2”. If I mount as shown in the instructions in the flat part of the bed above the ribbed portion I’ve only got about 2-1/2” of space between the body wall and the bed wall. There is clearance if I mount it lower in the ribbed portion of the bed, but that makes the connector more vulnerable to anything carried in the bed. Since I’ve passed the 60 day return period, I have 3 options. Mount it low and regret it one day, or fabricate a 1” spacer and mount it where it should be like in the instructions, or toss it and just use an extension cable. Bottom line, this “custom fit” cable doesn’t fit without compromise. For $70+, it should have been as easy as drilling a hole....in the right place. If you’ve got an F-250, recommend you look for a different product. 492493

DW, thank you for your review. The best mounting location of the 5th wheel wiring for the 2016 Ford F-250 super duty is in the ribbed portion of the bed wall. There is not enough space to install the plug on the top portion of the wall. We have not had any issues with the plug getting damaged in this location. I have attached a video of an install on a 2015 f-250.

The wiring harness arrived within one week of ordering. Drilling the required 2" hole was a simple matter of choosing the location and drilling the hole. I had to enlarge the upper part of the hole to allow for the wires and plug to pass through, as the 2" diameter wasn't quite enough to accommodate the second plug and the wire together. This enlargement was done with a file. No problem. The four screws are self tapping, so there's really no need to drill pilot holes unless you just want to make the screws that much easier to put in. A battery powered drill motor was all I needed to drive the screws. The finished installation is shown in the photos. This turned out to be a nice project, and is part of getting ready for the 5th wheel hitch and trailer. Excellent product. Well made. Very nice construction. Super easy to install. Literally a "plug and play" affair. The wiring harness and plug-in greatly exceeded my expectations. I'm glad I made this purchase from etrailer.com. 75631

Very easy to install, it took me abou 15 minutes on my 2011 Ram 2500. The only "specialty" tool needed was a 2" hole saw. I installed it behind the wheel well instead of in front for easy plug-in while hooking up with the tail gate down, so I had about 3 extra feet I had to zip tie and secure. I only wish it came with two large zip ties. Shipping was great, it arrived 2 days earlier than expected. 376742

Great product ,this wiring harness was even easier to install than the instructions called for. I removed the liner keeper on the rear stake pocket, pulled the liner out from the wall allowing access between it and the truck bed, layed the wire into the space between the liner and bed, running it to the rear. Excess wire is curled up in front of the wheel well after hooking into existing truck wire harness. The hard part was pulling the tail gate loose, supporting it (back up camera wire precludes tail gate removal unless disconnected). Plug end of harness fits between bed and bumper nicely (plenty of room to slip it into place). Disconnected existing plugs and inserted new harness into open connectors. I used a metal bracket (availabe at walmart or auto stores) to secure the 7 way connector end to the bed lip close to my tool box. This permitted the wire to fall behind the bedliner. Drilled one hole to secure bracket, then cut liner for wire. pushed liner back into place reinstalled liner keeper (plastic screw in expandable plastic anchor). As an after thought, to protect the exposed wires to the connectors, I installed a plastic wire sheath over these, and secured the ends with electrical tape, then used wire ties to complete the installation. Extremely fast ship. Thank You PS Dodge does not have a source for these harnesses. I told them about you as a source. It would have benn atleast another month or longer to get this harness. Dodge dealer had this on back order for me for over a month as it was. 35978

I had to tear out the fifth wheel wiring some professionals installed. My dodge was throwing errors because the way they spliced in allowed water to ground out the trailer wiring. It took me 1 1/2 hours to remove and repair. The system I purchased took less than 15 minutes to install. Thank you for making it so easy. The pictures include what they did and then after new kit installed. 482938

  • Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch For Short Bed Truck With Rails Installed
  • The rails in your 2005 Ford F-250 with 6-3/4 foot bed are standard rails compatible with most hitches. Because you have a short bed, you will need a sliding hitch. There are a few options for you, but I'll give you a recommendation for an auto-slide and a manual sliding hitch. The reason you will need a sliding hitch is because the clearance between your truck and trailer is limited due to the short box, so you want to make sure you have the ability to turn in tight spaces without having...

  • Compatibility of Demco Autoslide with 2018 Ram 2500 6.5 Foot Bed
  • The Demco 13K with a 22-1/2 inch slide # DM8550040 and # DM8550041, will not work for your application. It would cause issues with the tail gate. The confirmed fit for your truck is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - 18,000 lbs # DM8550034 or the 21K # DM8550035. Either will work well with the Rail adapter for Ram 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package # DM6099 or the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter # RP30154. The weight of the hitch is 273 lbs for the 18K and...

  • Recommended Aftermarket Underbed Puck System for 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 or 3500
  • For your 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500, there is an aftermarket underbed puck system available. It is the Reese Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30868. This is compatible with the 6-1/2 foot or the 8 foot bed. It will be compatible with the Reese Elite Slider # RP30144 or fixed mount # RP30142 (both of which come with the wiring harness). If you want to use a different 5th wheel hitch, then you simply need the Reese Elite Series...

  • Mounting Location for the Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck 7-Pin In Bed Wiring Harness
  • Mounting the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness, # 50-97-410, in the bed of your 2006 Chevy 2500HD is up to the installer and user. If you like the connection point to be closer to the cab, installing between the wheel well and the front of the bed is easily accomplished with the 9 foot long harness length. Many users like this location because it is easier to access when the trailer is attached to the fifth-wheel hitch. Most people probably install the connector between the...

  • Fifth Wheel King Pin Weight and Truck Payload Capacity
  • The hitch pin weight of 1400 lbs you stated is so close to your payload capacity, but that is not accounting for the 5th wheel hitch and rail weights or the loaded weight with cargo added. Tunda's are notorious for having a lower payload and in this case, I can't tell you it will be fine. The payload weight is spread out over the truck bed where the 5th wheel rails are mounted to the frame directly so are more secure. Unfortunately manufacturers don't test for the 5th Wheel Hitch weight...

  • Recommended In-Bed 7-Way Wiring Harness for Slide in Truck Bed Camper on 2011 Ford F-350
  • Unless you specifically need the 9 foot length provided by the part # 50-97-410 harness you referenced, I would recommend the Pollak 5th Wheel / Gooseneck T-Connector, part # PK11893-11932. The Pollak harness is 7-1/2 feet long, and with a short bed truck it should be more than long enough at half the price. I have linked to a video showing a typical installation. The video shows a different vehicle, but should provide you a good idea of how to proceed with the install.

  • Wiring Harness Needed for Installing a Truck Camper in the Bed of a 2011 Ford F-350
  • To run wiring into the bed of your truck for attachment of a truck camper, fifth-wheel trailer or gooseneck trailer the correct wiring harness is the Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness with 7-Pole Connector, item # 50-97-410 that you have selected. This harness connects inline with the OEM 7-Way wiring harness present at the back of the truck and will allow you to retain the use of the bumper mounted 7-Way connector. • Best Base Rail Kit and 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2017 Ram 2500 with the RamBox
  • Since your 2017 Ram 2500 has the RamBox you will be limited to using a trailer that is equipped with a Sidewinder or a Revolution (the OEM name for the Sidewinder) pin box. This will keep the pin box stationary and allow the trailer to turn via the rotating pin box. A standard pin box will not be able to turn with the limited inside your truck bed because of the RamBox. We do have 5th wheel base rail kits that are compatible with your Ram. The standard kit is part # RP50054-58, while...

  • Recommended Truck Bed Fifth Wheel Wiring Harness For 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
  • You should find a 7-way connector at the back of your Silverado. If you do then you can simply use a harness like the Bargman Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 50-97-410. This harness plugs between the 7-way connector you have and the harness that is plugged into the back of it. You then just route the harness to the location in your truck bed you want the harness to complete the install. I have attached a link to an installation of this harness you can check out. • Recommended 5th Wheel Towing Setup for a 2017 Ram 1500 with a 5-1/2 foot Bed
  • Since your 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 has a box that is shorter than 6 feet you will actually need to go with a stationary 5th wheel hitch and then change the pin box on your trailer to a Sidewinder pin box. There are no sliding 5th wheel hitches that will allow you to make a 90 degree turn with a truck that has a box under 6 feet. The Sidewinder takes the pivot point on your towing setup and moves it from the king pin back 22 inches to the rotating pin box. We have a selection of Sidewinders...

  • Location to Mount 7-Way Connector In Truck Bed for 5th Wheel
  • Some model year trucks have a greater distance between the outer fender and the inside of the truck bed in the area directly behind the rear wheel well, which is typically why you see the trailer connector for the fifth wheel installed there. You could install the connector forward of the wheel well if you wish, but if you do, I would recommend using a 90-degree plug like the Bargman # 50-97-410. A 90-degree plug needs less space behind the bed wall. Keep in mind that you will need...

  • Wiring an In-Bed Northland Camper Using Camper and Truck Existing Wiring in a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500
  • My recommendation would be to determine how your camper is wired and install a RV-Style trailer 7-pole connector on your camper wiring. Then use your existing 7-pole connection at the rear bumper of your truck to install an in-bed connection point to supply power to your camper. To begin I suggest determining how your camper is currently wired. To do this you will have to apply 12 volt power to the lines that you have mentioned that are coming out of the camper in the front left corner...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch That Fits 2018 Ram 3500 Factory Prep Package
  • Yes. The Curt Q25 Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package part # C16049 will fit your 2018 Ram 3500. It will connect to your underbed hitch platform and is pretty easy to set up and is very durable. It also has the adjustable hitch height options which makes this hitch very flexible. • If you have a factory tow package with a factory 7-way trailer connector already on your 2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty, then I have a couple of recommendations to put a 7-way in the bed of your truck. The Draw-Tite Wiring Harness, # 50-97-410, will plug inline between the OEM wiring harness and the factory installed 7-way connector under your truck bed. You will retain the use of the factory 7-way on the bumper and then have 9 feet of wiring harness to have a 7-way in your truck bed. The...

  • Is Factory 7-Way Wiring the Same on Dodge, Ford, GM, and Toyota Trucks when Adding In-Bed 7-Way
  • After a certain year, Dodge, Ford, GM, and Toyota all started using the same type of connectors for tow package wiring 7-Way connectors. There are a few harnesses that fit all 4 of these makes. If you are using a harness like # 50-97-410 with the round connectors that just plugs in then it would be the same on newer Dodge, Ford, GM, and Toyota vehicles. This harness plugs in line with the factory wiring harness under the truck and provides a 7-Way in the bed area. I also recommend installing a 7-Way like part # 50-97-410 on your Chevy so that it is easier to connect and disconnect the 7-Way from your gooseneck trailer.
