Base Rails for 2012 GMC Sierra 2500 With B&W Patriot

Updated 02/02/2025 | Published 01/31/2025

Question:

We bought a used BandW 18k sliding fifth wheel. We have a 2012 GMC 2500 SLT what brackets do we need to buy that attach to the frame and also what rails do we need? And also what kind of attachment do I need on my fifth wheel trailer that is going to work with this fifth wheel?

Hey Lydia! I'm assuming you got the B&W Patriot # BWRVK3270 which fits industry standard rails (ISR). Is that correct? Assuming it is, you can use the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWRVK2506. These are specifically designed for your 2012 GMC Sierra 2500 and will work with any 5th wheel hitch that fits ISR rails. As long as you have a standard pin box you don't need any special attachment to use the Patriot with your 5th wheel.

I don't know what 5th wheel king pin will work with this B&W 5th wheel. If I take a picture of it, can I share it with you? Thank you

@Lydia you can email me a picture but 5th wheel trailer pin boxes all use the same 2" king pin so trust me it is going to work. The only variation I know if is 3-1/2" and that is for commercial and military trailers that are so heavy your truck wouldn't be able to physically move them.

Thank you so much for your fast response. One more question please. How do I know what height to clear the bed rails? The number is for Lippert 019-00030605item # 229674 I also found this stamped plate number 5SFSG3622CE236149

@Lydia you want 5" - 6" of clearance between the top of the bed rails and the overhang on your 5th wheel trailer. The Patriot has an adjustable height of 17" - 19" and your pin box can probably be moved up and down depending on the mounting holes used to achieve that. Start with adjusting the 5th wheel hitch and go from there until you get the clearance you need.
