Notes:
There are a variety of adapters on the market that let you tow a fifth-wheel trailer with a gooseneck hitch. You can use a coupler adapter that replaces the pin box on your fifth-wheel trailer and then attaches to the gooseneck hitch in your truck bed. But these adapters often require modifications to your trailer that can void the warranty. Another option would be using fifth-wheel rails that mount directly to your gooseneck hitch, usually by dropping into the hitch's ball hole. But to do this you have to make 2 separate purchases - the adapter plate that has the rails and a standard fifth-wheel hitch. With the Demco Recon, you get a heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch that mounts in your truck bed by connecting directly to your gooseneck hitch with the included components. No modifications are required to your truck or trailer. And no additional parts are required for the system to work.
The single-piece, strong wraparound jaw completely surrounds your trailer's king pin for 360 degrees of contact. This wraparound jaw provides a more secure connection than standard 2-piece jaws that close in on the king pin from the sides. The increased jaw-to-king-pin contact on the Recon hitch offers tighter tolerances around the king pin, which minimizes both rattle and chucking, for a smooth, quiet ride.
A 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar spans the area in front of the jaw. This bar provides an added barrier of protection against accidental disconnection so you can have peace of mind that your trailer is secure. The locking bar is attached to the jaw and to the spring-loaded handle. The bar automatically locks when the jaw closes around your king pin.
The double pivoting, cushioned head improves your towing experience dramatically by helping to reduce jarring and unwanted noise. Built-in pins allow the hitch head to pivot back and forth and side to side. And hookup is easy because the hitch head will automatically pivot to the proper angle when it comes into contact with your pin box.
Polyurethane dampeners help to cushion the movement from the pivoting head and to reduce towing noise. These dampeners are built into the head assembly to cushion the head's side-to-side pivoting.
This hitch is designed to attach to the 2-5/16" ball on your gooseneck hitch.
Assembling the hitch is quick and easy because of its lightweight, 2-piece design. First, attach the base to your gooseneck ball. A coupler pin is installed underneath the ball and the coupler is tightened to keep the Recon secure. Then simply slide the head assembly into the opening in the base. There are 3 different height settings to choose from - just slide the head up or down to find your desired height.
Once you have chosen your desired height, use the included pin to secure the head to the base. Finally, tighten the bolt to eliminate any movement and rattle.

Hello, neighbors. Steve here with etrailer.com. Folks, today we're looking at our Demco Recon gooseneck-to-5th wheel trailer hitch adapter for trucks with a recess ball and it's rated at 21,000 pounds. So folks, I wanna start off with saying this 5th wheel hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes. It does not work with high-rise gooseneck balls, and the top of the gooseneck ball must be no lower than 1 5/8 inches below the deck surface. So this does fit aluminum flatbed truck beds with 2 5/16th recess gooseneck ball.
It has a minimum recess pocket of 14 by 14 inches and a maximum recess pocket of 20 by 20 inches. It needs a minimum of 7.5 inches from the center of the ball to the rear most side of the recess pocket and a minimum recess pocket depth of 4 11/16 inches. So a lot of information. We just wanna make sure you're getting the right one for your application and making sure that it's gonna fit your vehicle. Now getting into it, the trailer hitch adapter here does convert your recess gooseneck hitch to a 5th wheel hitch.
You can simply tow your 5th wheel trailer with this apparatus. It is designed for the aluminum flat beds with the recess ball, as I mentioned. Now going from the top down, it does use a wraparound single piece jaw to provide a secure connection and it's a 360 degree jaw to kingpin connection. Now I have a little plastic apparatus here. It represents the kingpin connection.
I'm gonna come around to the front and I'll show you how this jaw wraps around and what it looks like and everything. So you simply back up, make your connection. (jaw snaps) It will automatically close shut, just as you heard and saw visually. Let me spin that. So again, that single jaw there is going to come and wrap around.
Then once you have that in, you have a safety pin here. That's gonna keep the handle from being pulled back open to prevent you from accidentally unhooking the trailer and whatnot whenever you're towing. So with this, it's gonna give you pretty much zero rattling and a lot more security than your slide bar jaws that are out there. It is a 3/4 inch thick, solid steel lock bar. So that's gonna reinforce the connection of the coupled trailer. And as you saw and heard, it automatically locked into place once the jaw closes. Now because it is also a double-pivot head, it's gonna make hooking up easier and also help limit chucking and it can pivot front to back and side to side, as I just showed you. There are three height settings here on the main body and you pretty much just loosen the set bolts once you put it in place and get it to the height desire you need. I recommend taking the head unit off. There's a pull pin over here on this side that you really can't see, but you pull this big thick pin out and then you can put the head then in place on the base. One, it makes it lighter to move and put in place, and two, it's easier to install and get that height to the right height you need. Now there are included in here, again, you can't see 'em, but on the underneath here, there are two polyurethane cushion dampers that help reduce noise and absorb road shock, and the spring-loaded handle, as I showed you opening and close and just makes it a lot easier to use. The whole thing's got a nice heavy-duty sturdy construction with a nice rust-resistant black powder coat finish. Now I do want to throw up an image here from underneath. That's what from underneath looking up on this base looks like just to give you an idea. So you can see in the silver part there in the center of that photo, that's what's hooking up to the gooseneck ball. So once again, folks, a gross towing weight of 21,000 pounds, a vertical load limit of 5,250, and your height adjustments are 12 inches, 13 1/4 inches and 14.5 inches. A great five-year limited warranty by Demco. Again, folks, this is the Demco Recon gooseneck-to-5th wheel trailer hitch adapter dor those recess balls. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching.
