    • Short-bed trucks that need more clearance between truck and trailer when towing
    • Measurement from bottom of the king-pin plate to top of the hitch ball when trailer and truck are level: 11-3/4" (when adapter is collapsed) to 14-3/4" (when adapter is extended)

Notes:

  • This adapter is designed to be used with standard pin boxes only. Do not use with a cushioned or air ride pin box.

  • A pin box adapter (MR37ZR) is required if installing on a MORryde pin box.

V-19 Certified for safety and featuring exceptional strength and versatility, this universal adapter converts a fifth-wheel king pin to a gooseneck coupler. This allows you to tow your fifth-wheel trailer without a bulky fifth-wheel hitch. The Ranch Hitch from Andersen Manufacturing is easy to install, even for the inexperienced do-it-yourselfer.

Measuring Your Truck and Trailer for the Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapter

You can perform these steps to determine if the adapter will work for your fifth-wheel trailer.

  1. Back your truck into position as if you were hooking up your fifth-wheel trailer, making sure that the truck and trailer are level.
  2. Measure from the pin plate (the bottom of the pin box) down to the top of the ball in the bed of your truck.
  3. The measurement should fall between 11-3/4" and 14-3/4". (The adapter is 11-3/4" tall when fully compressed and 14-3/4" tall when fully extended.)

Additional Measurements

Five or six inches of clearance between the overhang of the trailer and siderails of your truck is necessary for safe operation.

Diagram of pin box showing where to measure length

Measuring for Pin Box Length

The Ranch Hitch adapter is designed for trailers with a standard or extended pin box up to 24" long (measured diagonally). To find this dimension, you should measure from the centerline of the bottom of the king pin into the back of the pin box as far as you can reach. You may not be able to reach the very back of the pin box itself because the top of it may extend into the trailer. In this case measure to where the pin box disappears into the trailer.

  • Solution for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with Curt Double-Lock Hitch on 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500
While we do have other options for you, the only way to use the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500 or # BWRVK3400 is by having the entire B&W Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1016 installed on your 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 as there isn't a way to safely fit different parts of gooseneck hitches together. With that being said, I'm a little curious about the gooseneck hitch you currently have installed. Reason being that the Chevy factory gooseneck hitch would have needed all of the pucks installed as well...

  • Can a Sidewinder be Used with a Gooseneck Coupler Adapter
No, Reese does not recommend the use of any kind of adapter with the Sidewinder Fifth Wheel King Pins or the Fifth Airborne Sidewinder products. If you would like to send me some information about your vehicle and the trailer you will be towing, I will be glad to try to make a recommendation for you that includes a gooseneck adapter. The length of your truck bed, the distance from the gooseneck ball to the back of the cab, the width of the trailer and the amount of any pin box extension...

I went out to the warehouse and measured a thread count of 7 per inch for the Replacement Collar System for Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapter # AM3110. Please keep in mind that if you do not have a Ranch Hitch 5th-wheel-to-gooseneck coupler adapter, like part # AM3100 or part # AM3139, there is a good chance that this will not fit.

  • Is Offset Ranch Hitch 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter Needed For Short Bed Truck
The offset Ranch Hitch adapter is needed for trucks with a bed that is less than 8 feet long. You will need as much clearance as possible with a short bed truck, and without the 8" offset you'll be very limited in how much you can turn. So a short bed will need the offset adapter, which is the following part number: - Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter w/ 8" Offset # AM3139 In order to make the installation of the # AM3139 much easier, it is recommended to use...

I spoke to my contact at Lippert and gave them the serial number on your trailer frame. With this information they were able to inform me that your trailer has a Lippert 1116 wing set. Unfortunately, they do not make a Reese Goose Box compatible with this wing set. However, if you prefer to have a gooseneck hitch ball as your connection point then you can use the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter part # CAB-C5G or part # CAB-C5GX1216. • Why Couldnt Convert-A-Ball Fifth Wheel/Gooseneck Adapter Be Used with 2019 Ford F250 Super Duty
The Convert-a-Ball Adapter # CAB-C5GX1216 that you referenced can't be used with gooseneck balls that have the plastic latch mechanisms on the top of the balls like what you most likely have. These are known as "pop-in" balls. The issue is that the Convert a Ball ends up damaging the release mechanism. [Edit: if the latch is metal it won't be an issue] We do have the very similar Ranch Hitch Adapter part # AM3139 which you could use as it does not have this fit exclusion. It's the same...

  • Do 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapters Place Additional Stress on Trailer Frame
Yes, it is true that most types of 5th wheel to gooseneck adapters will cause stresses on the trailer's frame and in some instances may actually void the warranty on the trailer frame. However, there is one type of 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter that does NOT place any extra stress on the coach's frame and that will NOT void your frame warranty. That type of adapter is called a Goosebox, made by Reese. A Goosebox such as # RP85FR is a replacement pin box that bolts on in place of your...

  • Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Hitch Adapter for Trailer with Leland 7921 Pin Box
For a Leland pin box the best fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter is going to be the Convert a Ball part # CAB-C5G that you referenced. Only issue is that since you have a short bed truck you aren't going to have great turning clearance. Ideally you'd have a hitch that a rail adapter could fit like the X5 part # 16310 for B and W hitches or the # C16210 for Curt double lock hitches so that you could use a slider hitch like the Curt A20 Slider part # C16541.

  • Should Adapter with Offset be Used to Tow 5th Wheel with a 2007 Chevy Silverado Short Bed Gooseneck
Since you have a short bed I highly recommend using the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5GX1216. This will allow you to still utilize your gooseneck hitch and provides you with 7-1/2" of offset that should make it so that you have cab clearance while turning. To make sure that the 7-1/2" of extra room will give you adequate clearance you can use the clearance formula which is: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw (or...

No, with your set-up you can not use a rotating pin box (Sidewinder). The Replacement Base for B&W Companion Flatbed 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVB3055 you have still uses the turnover ball for its connection point. The reason you can not use a rotating pin box with the turn over Companion is that the way it attaches using the turnover ball can not handle the torque that is placed on the hitch by using a rotating pin box. The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset - 12" to 16" Tall # CAB-C5GX1216 is not recommended for use with factory-installed towing prep packages from Ford, GM, Dodge (Ram), or Nissan. The Ranch Hitch Universal 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3139 can potentially work with a recessed gooseneck ball on a flat bed truck, but it's going to depend on just how much the ball is recessed and how much space you have around the ball.
