Will B&W Patriot 18k Slider Cause Tailgate Interference

Updated 05/05/2025 | Published 08/04/2020

Question:

I have a 2017 Chevy 2500 with a 6’7” bed, currently use a Reese 15k that has 10” of slide. I like this hitch, but with the 12” of slide I’m concerned it may hit the tailgate when slid back in the maneuvering position and don’t want a modified tailgate. Will the additional 2” of slide make a difference. Anyone in the etrailer community have a similar set up that they have shared their experiences.

The clearance issue you mentioned is basically unheard of. The 12 inches of sliding clearance that the B and W Patriot Slider part # BWRVK3270 provides is a very standard amount of clearance and does not have reputation of causing tailgate interference at all. Especially on a longer short bed truck like yours that is 6-1/2 feet long. This works well on short bed trucks that are also 6 feet long too.

I just installed the companion slider on my 2018 gmc 2500 short bed, is the patriot and the companion similar in dimensions and pin over the axle? my companion when in rear most setting is looking like it will hit my tailgate, this is concerning and im awaiting b&W for a reply as well, i have the bw turnover ball and slider. i have not towed with it yet but will be soon. looking for advise,

@Justinharrison I'd have to see a picture but on a truck like yours it's not a common problem at all to have the hitch hit the tailgate. Even with truck beds shorter than what you have.
