Will 18k 5th Wheel Hitch Fit 2006 F-350 With Base Rails That Have Four Holes

Updated 02/23/2025 | Published 02/18/2025

Question:

I need an 18k fifth wheel hitch. I’m second owner on a 2006 F 350 short bed pickup. It has rails 22 inches apart bolted to the frame but they only have 4 oblong holes on top, not six holes. The outermost holes are missing. Will they work or will I need new rails? Heard truck had been used with a gooseneck flatbed trailer. Thanks, Lee

Hey Lee! I'm not sure what those rails are but if you send me a picture I can take a look. 22" apart is standard and it would also help if you measure the distance between the holes. I attached a picture below with the industry standard base rail measurements for you to compare to.

The hitch I recommend is the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3270. You will want the slider for clearance since you have a short bed. If you want to use the fixed # BWRVK3255 you looked at you will need a rotating pin box to get the proper clearance.

The Patriot mounts in the outside holes that are 29" apart so if you don't match those measurements you can go ahead and get the B&W Universal Base Rails # BWRVR3200 to replace what you have now. If you would prefer a custom installation kit we also have the # BWRVK2400.

Thank you for the very helpful reply. I’ll need the new rails and the slider hitch based upon your information. My installer will order them directly.
