To determine where to splice into your vehicle's tail light wiring, you will need to consult the included instructions. Use the quick-splice connectors to attach the input wires of the tail light converter to the corresponding wires from your vehicle. Once you've spliced in the converter, connect the included hot lead to the black wire and run it up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Then locate a flat surface inside your vehicle near the tail lights and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. Find a raw metal surface to use as a ground point and secure the white ground wire using the provided ring terminal and screw. Finally, secure the converter wires to your vehicle using the included cable ties.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on the 4-pole connector to help prevent corrosion.
Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on 1 wire - the signals from your vehicle may have to be converted to be compatible with your trailer's wiring. If your vehicle operates on a 3-wire system, which means that it has separate brake and turn signals, then those signals will need to be combined so that they run on 1 wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. This converter will also ensure that your trailer's lights illuminate fully, even if your vehicle has pulse-width modulation (PWM) wiring. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

This was delivered within same box as a trailer hitch that I ordered for my 2017 QX50. Wir8ng package was open/damaged, however item looked clean and new. I installed it a couple days ago following instructions video since it was not a plug&play application. The installation took about 30 minutes. The unit works flawlessly. I towed my small trailer using the wiring and I had no issue what so ever. Iam happy with the purchase.

The wiring still works without any issues after a year. I have used it total of 10-15 times with my small trailer.
This was the second hitch from etrailer I have installed. Good materials make a good hitch, these are top quality. In the past I have built my own hitches so I am familiar with installation. Installation suggested time is underestimated.
Would I buy again? Definitely yes.
Unfortunately you stopped carrying th full trailer hitch install kit I need. The tail light kit was affordable and shipped fast. Kyle helped me find a parts list for the install kit and I've been acquiring the pieces elsewhere. I think I've found all the parts and should be able to proceed. Thanks Kyle! Someone should organize the install kit part list into a package so e-trailer could provide them.
I bought wiring harness for 2007 Toyota 4Runner for my trailer lights. Amazing service as always. etrailer is the best!!!
Easy find the right part using the online part fit guide. Followed up to make sure it was delivered when it was delayed by the post office.

It has been rock solid with no issues.
The installation went well. The slowest part was figuring out the tail light wiring and labeling them. I had to run the black power feed wire to the battery which is under the back seat. I thought that was going to be the most difficult part of the job, but it turned out to be the easiest.I mounted the module on the inside of the left rear quarter panel near the tail light. Made my connections as per the instructions, and finally inserted the fuse. The lights worked correctly. I then reinstalled the trunk lining and mat and everything was hidden. This was a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville .

The product is performing as expected. No trouble at all. I would certainly recommend this product to anyone.
I think the product itself is nice. I had a difficult time finding a video tutorial for my particular vehicle. I followed the instructions on the closest comparable vehicle I could find and it did not work. I had to do some problem-solving on my own to get the Tail lights and brake lights to work correctly, but I figured it out. Might be helpful to update videos for my particular vehicle. I think somebody that does not have wiring skills would really struggle with this.

I appreciate that feedback, and I am glad you were able to get it working. What did you end up having to do to make it work?

It's a unaversal converter. Not very exciting, but works well, and came with long enough wires for my install on a Panther platform car. It came with a printed wiring diagram, which I am very appreciative of, as I am "old school."
Returned, had to splice wires. We ordered a plug in style.

So far no problems. We have only used it a few times. Seems like good quality.
I thought I was buying plug and play. I don't feel the product was worth the price for something that I had to splice in. I connecting it to the factory trailer hitch connection. I cut the trailer pigtail so I could route it through the hole/grommet intended for the factory trailer connector. I soldered the wires back together inside the car and the wires seemed to be poor quality. I think that they were a copper alloy instead of pure copper. They were heavy gauge and difficult to solder even with a 100 watt gun.
Works precisely as desired once connected. It doesn't cause a reaction in our new Lexus, which was a major concern to me especially around modern vehicles and their sensitive persnickety electronic overlord modules.
I would like to see one improvement: a tutorial on the Etrailer website for our model Lexus, 450NX h+ at least listing which color wires to tap and where they are located. I worked it out, and that info would have saved a lot of challenge.
The product itself, has been flawless.
Fast shipping, secured packaging, this is the second hitch I’ve bought from e-trailer, top notch all the way around.
Went on like you would expect. I ordered the plug bracket (reason for the rubber band holding the plug temporarily)rather than have the wires in the back hanging out through the hatch door. I ran them out where the rear light assembly is. The cutout measurement was a bit off. Corrected, no worries
Love the quality and the install was ok except on the muffler side. The heat shield above the muffler made it impossible to use the washer on the inside so installed without the inside washer and torqued an extra 10lbs. Other than that installation was fairly easy.
Packaging was badly damage with portions of the hitch exposed.
This happened with my last hitch. The hitches themselves are of good quality but I can’t understand why someone at etrailer doesn’t hire a packaging engineer to fix this.
It was an open box and I won't be able to use it because it requires splicing into my vehicle harness. I want to purchase a four-pole flat trailer harness that is plug and Play.

I'll get that return set up for you. Assuming your vehicle is a 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz, I'd recommend the # C93DQ harness. It's a plug and play install, but you will need to attach one wire to the positive battery terminal.
The instructions are basically confusing. Takes more time to try to interpret them than to do the install. We replaced the barrel connectors with Wirefy that have shrink on them for waterproofing and used 12 ga. GXL automotive wire from the battery to the back of the car. This is critical since it is hot to the battery and if abraded can short. Even with a fuse, up to 20 amps of power will short before the fuse blows, enough to cause a fire! The box mounted right on the left taillight assembly. Use spiral wrap to protect the trailer plug wire that passed under the spare tire and out an existing hole in the floor pan. Used an LED to confirm the wires and it all works. Had an issue with the ground, as the existing screw for the taillight assembly was NOT grounded, to my surprise. We sanded the paint around it and that worked. Overall, not a bad setup.

It has worked great and we use the connector to power the lights on our E bike carrier. I did take the time to solder and use marine shrink tubes on connectors. “Take your time and do the job right or face doing it over later”
The isntuction manual that Curt supplies is useless. I was able to find a YouTube video someone made to help me install this. The product itself is good and etrailer has great communication on delivery of product.
I installed the Tail Light Converter and everything works great. Paula was a big help and the install videos were also a big help.
Thank you.
I love the 4 pole tail light harness! It was so easy to install only taking 5 minutes to do. The dealership wanted over $300 to install a harness that cost over $250, what a ripoff. Works great, I am very with my purchase.
Wiring went well! I wish the green wire was longer so I could get it to the right blinker/taillight without splicing in additional wire, but I understand my ProMaster 2500 is a bit of a funky shape/vehicle. Everything else was easy enough and worked well. Thanks!
After speaking with customer service and verifying our vehicle make and model, we were sent the wrong part. This is the second time we need to send back this part.
It’s a great product. We have ordered from you in the past as well. We received instructions with our previous orders this order did not come with printed out instructions. Not all of your customers are tech savvy. Please take that into consideration
