Question:
I have a 2025 Ram 1500 Laramie and would like to add a tailgate light bar or strip. Another person I know has tried this on his and has gotten dash warning lights etc. His light works but it does things like shut off his rear park sensors thinking a trailer is there. Before I buy one Id like to hear your response for installation. Thanks, Harry

Hey Harry, so newer trucks use trailer wiring connections to let the truck know a trailer is connected which they do this by measuring how much of a draw is on the trailer wiring circuits. An LED light bar only would draw a small amount so this will confuse this unfortunately.
The best way around this is a hardwired 4-way that bypasses all of that like with the part # C59236 which wires to your taillight circuits but then draws power from the truck battery.

Thanks for the info Jameson, that makes sense. My only problem with this approach is running a wire all the way to the battery. I think we'll wait to see if manufacturers of these lights come up with a better solution. regards, Harry
