Specs:
The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Recessed-mount trailer lights install underneath a housing or a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights will extend into the mounting surface and require that a hole be cut into your trailer.

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and today we're taking a look at the LED clearance or side marker light. This is going to give us some light for our trailers, so we can be in compliance with all DOT laws, and it's also going to help other drivers to see us while we're out on the road, especially in the dark. So it's just going to be this nice little submersible light, sonically sealed so you can get this in the water. It doesn't have any chance of getting dirt and debris inside there either, so if you want to take this off-road it should be just fine. It does have surface mount technology, so the LEDs are mounted in a way that they should be resistant to any kind of shock and vibration. It's going to be a really nice long-lasting light, no filaments to break on you, you shouldn't have to worry about any kind of maintenance with this.It is just a nice little red lens over the white LEDs.
It gives us that rear light. Typically, for the rear of your trailer you want to have the red indicate the backside. Amber would be for the side or front of your trailer. To light this up, we just need to get a two-prong plug like this guy here. We do have a lot of options available, different configurations with that two-prong design here at etrailer.com, so if you don't already have one, you can grab those to go with this, it makes it pretty easy to wire that up.
Just go black to power, white to ground and there it is, your light is illuminated. Turn the lights out in our studio, you can see how bright this is even in the dark. So you can see nice, bright little light. It does have kind of a 90 degree angle to that light that's why it is P2 rated. You can't really see it from the side. So if you are standing at one side or the other, it doesn't really do the job for you, so you will have to get two lights if you want to have it as a side marker or, and a clearance light.
It can't really do both at the same time. There are lights that can, those would be PC rated lights, which are also available here etrailer. It basically just gives you a 180 degree view of light, so little wider beam for you. But this is going to do the job, lights up our trailer, let's let the drivers know where we are so we can stay safe out there on the road. We'll have four LEDs inside there, three and a triangle and then one in the center. The power draw at 12.8 volts is 0.06 amps, so very low power draw for this little guy and still puts out a good amount of light there.
As far as the size, it's a two and a half inch light from outside edge to outside edge. Then from the front face to the back of that prong attachment, it's about an inch. We can take this apart and show you that with a ruler, so you can see for yourself how it matches up. Two and a half inches outside edge to outside edge and then just about an inch thick. You can get a grommet to go with this if you would like a recessed style mount, rather than this just being a surface mount. Those are also available in a couple of different configurations.Again, you can find those as related parts of the bottom of the product page at etrailer.com. You guessed it. As far as anything else to go with this, besides the two-pronged plug, it's really about all you need to get this installed. It does meet the DOT requirements for these lights. Lifetime warranty on the LEDs from Optronics. And that's about all there is to it for this little guy. I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this going to be the right one for you. If not, we do have other options available right here at etrailer.com, so you can check those out. Thanks for watching and we'll see you next time.
