This is one of the few license plate lights that would work for me. As you can see in the picture I have it mounted on top of the license plate, above the lamp. The attached bracket made for an easy installation. The wires were kind of short (about 8") because of the way I mounted it so I had to extend to wires.

I did not want to mount my plate on the bottom of the tail lamp assembly to utilize the built-in license plate light because it was to low to the ground and was always dragging loading and unloading the trailer. The product made an easy DIY modification to keep me on the good side of the men and women in blue.

by:

Based on other reviews of these lights, I had no doubt that they would be brighter than the Bargman Series 92 incandescent lights that came standard on my trailer. The issue was whether or not the 12-13 degree return slope on the back of my trailer (see picture) would adversely affect their visibility because some LED lights are "directional. The bottom line is that I think they work very well despite the slight downward aim. The attached video shows my test of one of the new lights taped into position (right) compared to one of the old lights (left). The video does not due justice to the brightness of the new fixture, but you can clearly see how much sharper the "flash" of the light is compared to the old one. Two notes regarding installation; (1) there is very little space in the back of the fixture for wires so you need to be able to center the fixture on the whole in the trailer to push extra wire into, and (2) yo can configure these lights to be 1/2 stop/tail and 1/2 turn/tail if your trailer is wired appropriately.

Product worked perfectly for what we were using it for. I purchased a motorcycle and needed to move the license plate bracket to be able to add bags. I found your bracket online, knowing we were going to have to jerry rig it to where we wanted to mount it. I was a little suprised the bracket was plastic when I received it, but still worked great. A friend made 2 mounting brackets from a flat bar, cutting and bending them to the length and angle we needed. Drilled holes and mounted them under the rear fender. Mounted the license plate bracket on the other ends of the custom brackets and wired it in for lights.

Only 1 of the 5 LED’s work. Disappointing.
The
picture isn’t that great due to the reflection, but only the center led is lit.

Needed rear license holder when installing new Bragman LED surface mount lights.
Holder was easy to install an works great.

by:

Exceptional and inexpensive LED-lit license plate mount/bracket.
I ordered this item (online) on a Sunday, and received a human confirmation e-mail that evening! Item was shipped the next day (Monday). Very Easy installation. Photos (3) attached. If you need an illuminated license plate bracket, BUY THIS ONE!

by:

This license bracket was just what I needed to replace a broken one on my RV. This unit is well made, with a nice finish and a bright light. Better than original equipment!

by:

Nice sturdy bracket and matches my new tail lights. Led and bright. Just what I wanted. I will attach a photo.

by:

The Clear plastic lens keeps coming unsnaped from the rubber base. Had to use gorilla glue to keep it in place.

They are still working great and looking good

This kit works, but not in the configuration delivered. If you purchase this, be prepared to find an alternate method to mount the lights. You will likely need to modify the cargo carrier to make this work.

The lights are sealed units that are normally flush mounted on larger trailers. Mounts have been added with self-tapping screws that easily strip out of the housing and the mounts fall off the lights. The screws in the kit were smaller in diameter than the holes in the mounts, both front and back, making them useless. I tried attaching the lights using zip ties and just the mount on the light portion, but that failed when the mount screws stripped out of the lights. I did not have the issue with the wiring being too short like other reviewers. My wiring was actually a little too long.

To actually install this kit reliably, here what you need:

- Silicone
- Super Glue
- Screwdriver (Flat or Phillips Depending on Screw Choice)
- Wire Cutters (To Cut the Ends off of Anchors)
- 9/32" Drill Bit
- 4x #6x1.5" Machine Screw
- 4x #6x0.75" Anchors

How I installed mine:

1. Remove the plastic bracket supplied with the light. Fill the holes with silicone so that the lights are sealed again. Check in a couple minutes to ensure that the silicone didn't drip through. Add more as needed until the hole is filled.
2. Trim the ends off of your anchors so that they fit in the two plastic circles on the back of the lights. Just a little bit will do. Test fit them to make sure they go all the way in. Once you're sure they fit, super glue just the bevel at the top to the light. This is to prevent them from turning in the hole because the plastic on the light is really smooth.
3. Drill two 9/32" holes in the rear upright bars of the carrier. Make the holes 1/4" from the edge so you can still connect the wiring. Space the holes at 2 5/16". The holes need to go through the front and back of the uprights.
4. Put the screws through the back holes pointing outwards. Once the super glue has dried, screw the screws into the anchors.
5. Connect the wiring per the supplied instructions.

All is well. Thanks

This worked very well to mount and light my license plate when I removed the OEM lights that had an integrated mounting for the plate. It was easy to mount and wire to the existing trailer license plate lighting circuit. I'm very pleased with the finished result.

by:

Warning, this item does not run off of batteries!
I hope you have not received this because etrailer is not responsible for shipping on returned items! This item will cost me more to return (shipping) then it's worth! I guess I'm just supposed to throw it away and be happy about. This is a bad return policy!!!

They had the part I needed on an older model travel trailer and they sent it right away.

  • Putting a License Plate and Tail Lights on a Bike Rack
For the license plate, you have two options. You can use the Yakima PlateMate License Plate Holder for Bike Racks # Y02713. This uses a hook and loop strap to attach to your bikes or your rack and is quick, easy, and temporary. The downside to this style is that it isn't lighted, so you would either have to avoid driving at night or go with the second option. The second option is a LED Trailer License Plate Light w/ Bracket # LPL55CB. This will require cable ties or drilling to secure...

Aluminum trailers and trailers with folding tongues can also have this issue. Using a ground jumper wire is a great fix. You can connect the wire to one of the light's mounting screws and route it to a suitable grounding point on the trailer frame, or all the way back to the main wiring harness ground if you prefer.
