Specs:
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the LED clearance or side marker trailer light. This is going to have a reflector so that it's also still useful even when our lights aren't on, to let other people know where our trailer is. So as you can see, it's reflecting the light back and making it more visible, even with the light off. I'm going to connect this up to power and ground while I tell you about a few other features. It is going to be an LED light.
So should last longer than your typical incandescent bulbs. And you don't have to worry about any maintenance with this, since you don't have any of those bulbs to change out. Also typically has a lower power draw and just makes it a more overall efficient light than you typically find. So got my power and ground connected here. And my light should come on.There it goes.
So we'll just have our power going to the black wire. Ground, going to the white wire to get everything connected. Just has a single diode there. So I'm going to turn the light out and you can get an idea of how bright that is. So nothing terribly bright but enough to be within compliance of DOT regulations for our side marker or trailer light use.
Now the reason why it's an either/or use is because this does have a P2 rating. So that just means that it produces a 90 degree beam pattern. Basically you just can't see it from the side. It doesn't work as both. It can only really be viewed from about 90 degrees, and then once it turns all the way to the side, you can't see that that light's on any more.
So that's why you have to use it as a clearance light or a side marker light. If you wanted something that can be used as both simultaneously, you need a P3 rated light. We do have a lot of options for those here at etrailer.com. It's going to be an amber lens that's just made out of an acrylic construction that snaps over the base. So disconnect my wires and we can take a look at that. To get that base off, you'll just need a flat blade screwdriver to pop that out of place. And there's a little indention there at the bottom, so it makes it easy to get that screwdriver in there. Pop it open, and then that gives you access to the mounting holes to get this mounted in place. The distance between those mounting holes, center to center, it's about three inches. Our light overall measures about four inches long and about two inches wide. It's just about an inch thick. Our wires coming off the back, we'll have about five inches of wire to work with there. It is compatible with your 12 volt DC systems. The power draw at 12 volts is going to be 0.06 amps. And there is a lifetime warranty on that LED from Optronics. That's pretty much going to do it for our look at the LED clearance or side marker trailer light. I hope this video has been helpful in determining if it's going to be the right fit for you. If not, we do have a lot of other options here at etrailer.com, so definitely check them out. Thanks for watching, and we'll see you next time.
