License Plate Bracket Recccommendation For Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier

Updated 05/12/2010 | Published 05/11/2010

Question:

What is typically done when a load blocks the license plate from view? Is this illegal? Does the license plate need to be moved to the back of the carrier?

The legality of an obscured rear license plate varies from state to state. If you want to heed the letter of the law, the plate can be relocated to the rear of the cargo carrier.

We sell quite a few cargo carriers, and to be honest, it is really not that much of an issue. You could zip tie the plate to your carrier, or use a bracket with a light like part # LPL55CB (In most states, the rear license plate is required to be lit after dark).

If your vehicle has a trailer connector, you can splice into the running light circuit and ground wire from the connector with a 2 Wire Loop, # 9651P, to make a quick easy disconnect for the license plate light on the carrier.
