Video Transcript for Hands-On with the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Draw-Tite hitch ball. This is gonna be an inch and 7/8 with a one-inch diameter shank. For something like our kayak trailer, or a small boat, or even a small utility trailer, this is gonna be a great option. Being a 1 7/8 inch ball is gonna mean that it's gonna be good for a smaller trailer. In fact, this one's rated at 2000 pounds, so you're gonna want it to adhere to that number. You're also gonna want to obviously compare, make sure that your ball mount, as well as your hitch and your vehicle also equates to that.

But at 2000 pounds it's gonna be really good, again, for maybe a kayak trailer or small utility trailer or something along those lines. Now this does have a 1-inch shank diameter, so make sure that the ball mount that you're picking up is adequate for that 1 inch. And this is gonna be 2 1/8 inch long, so it's gonna work on a standard ball mount pretty easy. It's just enough, but it's also not gonna be excess. So perfect for a just normal one like we have here.

Being chrome-plated means that it's gonna hold up to elements long term, even after lots of use. You may want to grease it here and there but being chrome-plated again is pretty heavy duty. So you can leave this on the back of your vehicle, won't have to worry about this rusting. Now you will have torque this down. It's nice, it has built-in flats here.

That way you can get a wrench on here as you're torquing down the nut on the bottom, and we're gonna show you how to do that. Now, before you start using your ball with your ball mount, you're gonna wanna make sure that it's torqued down properly, and that way, it doesn't become loose over time. Now there's a few ways to do this. You are gonna need a 1 1/2-inch socket to tighten down the nut. And what's really nice is the ball mount that we have here today is a TowSmart, and this actually has grooves in place and that's gonna allow us to slide this in.

And once it's tight, it's gonna kind of hold that in place allowing us to just use our torque wrench on one side and not have to mess around with a wrench on the other. Whereas other times, you are gonna have to put a wrench on this edge or use a vice, that's another option. You can tighten that down and torque it. But either way, it's a decent amount of torque. So having this little groove here is gonna help us out. So what helps if you're doing this on your car if you don't have a vice, you can kind of turn it sideways and that way, you have nice mobility with your torque wrench on one side. We'll just get our ball torqued down and then we'll be ready to use it. (torque wrench beeps) And that was a look at the Draw-Tite 1 7/8-inch ball with a one-inch diameter shank.

  • Concealed Trailer Hitch for 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe
I'd recommend going with the etrailer brand # e28AR Class III hitch. When installed on your 2022 Santa Fe, the hitch crossbar will be concealed behind the vehicle bumper, with only the receiver tube and safety chain loops being visible. I'll provide a photo showing what the hitch will look like once it's installed. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like # CU94FR, a ball mount like # 2753 and a trailer ball like # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845...

  • Recommended Ball Mount for 2021 Subaru Outback Towing Trailer with 15-1/2 Coupler Height
I have a solution for you, but there's not a ball mount with exactly a 1-1/2" drop. The goal is to tow your trailer as level as possible, so using a ball mount like the one that comes in the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989891 that comes with a 2" drop would work just fine. This kit comes with both 1-7/8" and 2" hitch balls to allow you to cover trailers with different coupler sizes, plus a hitch pin, clip and storage bag.

  • Trailer Hitch for 2019 Rogue Sport
The etrailer Class III hitch you mentioned, part # e79YR is a fit for your 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport. We estimate that an experienced installer should be able to complete the install in about an hour. Any trusted mechanic should be able to handle the installation with no problem. What you'll pay for the installation will depend on the going rate for hourly ship labor in your area. I've linked you to some installation videos that I hope you'll find helpful. If you'll be towing a small trailer,...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendations for a 2005 Toyota Highlander
On the 2005 Toyota Highlander, the available hitches all clear the bumper and stick out past it about 4 inches, The Draw-Tite (75153) and Curt Hitch (13530) in this case are actually very similar, so it will look the same. Both hitches have the same basic specifications. They are all Class III hitches with 2 inch receiver openings. The Curt # 13530 is rated for weight distribution, with a 4000 lb GTW and a 400 lb TW rating, while the Draw-Tite model is not rated for weight distribution. I...

  • Recommended Trailer Ball Mount for 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
The correct ball mount for your vehicle will depend on the height of the hitch on your Outlander. When we installed a hitch like # C13398 on your vehicle, we found that the inside top of the receiver tube was about 11 inches above the ground. Since the average trailer coupler height is between 16-18 inches, you'll want a ball mount that provides about 6 inches of rise. Since the # C45036 you'd looked at provides a 2 inch drop, it wouldn't be a good choice. To figure out the exact rise...

For your 2001 Ram 3500 Dually 4x4 with Lance 11.5 camper, I recommend the Brophy Ball Mount # BM20. This extra long ball mount will allow you to put the hitch ball center 13-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch receiver. This is rated for 10,000 lbs. I recommend the # 63845 for a 2 inch hitch ball or # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch ball. If you need more length than the extra long ball mount, you may consider the Curt Extender for 2" Receivers -18" Long #...

The only portion of the hitch that will be visible from the rear is the receiver tube and the safety chain loops. This hitch has the e-coat base and powder coat finish for excellent rust protection. If you will be towing with this trailer hitch receiver, you'll need a few other items, beginning with a trailer wiring harness, part # 118741. • Ball Height for Pulling a 2016 Coachmen Clipper with a 2004 Honda Pilot
You want the trailer to be as level as possibel when towing. To figure out the correct rise or drop you need with your 2004 Honda Pilot measure from the ground to the inside top of the trailer hitches opening with the vehicle parked on level ground. Then measure from the ground to the underside of the trailer's coupler with it level as well. The difference between the two tells you how much of a rise (the trailer is higher than the vehicle) or a drop (the vehicle is higher than the trailer)...

This ball mount will give you the adjustability to tow your travel trailer level and will give you two hitch ball size options that are integrated. We've received varied reports saying that some of the hitches aren't compatible with the system at all, unless the sensor relocation bracket is purchased from Honda. This is a Class III Hitch, with a 2 inch receiver that is compatible with most accessories such as cargo carriers or bike racks. This is the highest rated hitch available for your 2006 Mercedes-Benz ML350 for towing. Instead, what you can do is use the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver # D210.
