Video Transcript for Hands-On with the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Draw-Tite hitch ball. This is gonna be an inch and 7/8 with a one-inch diameter shank. For something like our kayak trailer, or a small boat, or even a small utility trailer, this is gonna be a great option. Being a 1 7/8 inch ball is gonna mean that it's gonna be good for a smaller trailer. In fact, this one's rated at 2000 pounds, so you're gonna want it to adhere to that number. You're also gonna want to obviously compare, make sure that your ball mount, as well as your hitch and your vehicle also equates to that.

But at 2000 pounds it's gonna be really good, again, for maybe a kayak trailer or small utility trailer or something along those lines. Now this does have a 1-inch shank diameter, so make sure that the ball mount that you're picking up is adequate for that 1 inch. And this is gonna be 2 1/8 inch long, so it's gonna work on a standard ball mount pretty easy. It's just enough, but it's also not gonna be excess. So perfect for a just normal one like we have here.

Being chrome-plated means that it's gonna hold up to elements long term, even after lots of use. You may want to grease it here and there but being chrome-plated again is pretty heavy duty. So you can leave this on the back of your vehicle, won't have to worry about this rusting. Now you will have torque this down. It's nice, it has built-in flats here.

That way you can get a wrench on here as you're torquing down the nut on the bottom, and we're gonna show you how to do that. Now, before you start using your ball with your ball mount, you're gonna wanna make sure that it's torqued down properly, and that way, it doesn't become loose over time. Now there's a few ways to do this. You are gonna need a 1 1/2-inch socket to tighten down the nut. And what's really nice is the ball mount that we have here today is a TowSmart, and this actually has grooves in place and that's gonna allow us to slide this in.

And once it's tight, it's gonna kind of hold that in place allowing us to just use our torque wrench on one side and not have to mess around with a wrench on the other. Whereas other times, you are gonna have to put a wrench on this edge or use a vice, that's another option. You can tighten that down and torque it. But either way, it's a decent amount of torque. So having this little groove here is gonna help us out. So what helps if you're doing this on your car if you don't have a vice, you can kind of turn it sideways and that way, you have nice mobility with your torque wrench on one side. We'll just get our ball torqued down and then we'll be ready to use it. (torque wrench beeps) And that was a look at the Draw-Tite 1 7/8-inch ball with a one-inch diameter shank.

I went from having a package delivered to my front doorstep, to hauling gear in no time with my latest order placed with etrailer.com.

Before I could go out and purchase a new kayak trailer, first I needed to obtain several products which were absolutely essential in regards to allowing me to actually go out and follow through with my impending buy. From etrailer.com, I purchased a Curt T-Connecter Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Flat Trailer Connection for my 2015 Subaru Forester, a 2" Curt Ball Mount, and a 1-7/8" Diameter and Medium Shank Hitch Ball.

I found ordering online from etrailer.com to be a breeze, with relatively minimum effort having to be put forth when doing so. Everything I needed was simple and easy to find, which overall made my shopping experience all the more better. Surprisingly after ordering, I was notified that my shipping option chosen had been upgraded, and that I would be receiving my goods sooner, rather than later. This was unexpected, though great news indeed!

Within days as promised, my package arrived and I was eager to get to work installing all three parts. The Ball Mount & Hitch Ball required the smallest amount of effort obviously which was good, especially more so, since I was really looking forward to the tackling the wiring harness installation foremost. Online, the specific product page for the wiring harness, featured a short video detailing the complete job from start-to-finish for those doing the work themselves. The video was clear, concise, and done in such a simple manner that success was pretty much guaranteed. I opted myself to Velcro the wiring harness converter to inside rear panel, instead of using the included two-sided adhesive. When finished, you would not believe how clean the entire job looked when completed. As though it was done by a true automotive professional!

Before I knew it, I was on the road, and with trailer in tow behind me off looking for some adventurous fun. Thanks etrailer.com!

I couldn't be more happy, and satisfied with my recent purchases from etrailer.com, than what I am. Dealing with the company has been a real pleasure from top to bottom. I would most certainly recommend them and their products to anyone I know.

Sorry I did not write back sooner, it’s has been a busy October. I really like everything that I bought. So far I have only used the hitch for my bike rack. But I am planning on using a friends trailer for some yard work and home project jobs. I am a welder by trade and everything is well built and as expected, no issues with anything. I especially like how easy the electrical was to connect to the factory harness. My friend who owns the trailer recently bought another truck and with my recommendation he also purchased a trailer hitch and the other parts he needed from etrailer.com. I have recommended etrailer.com to literally everyone I know. I really like the products and will be a return customer.

Still great. eTrailer is the go to place.

by:

Both the hitch coupler and ball worked perfect for my shopping trailer so I could use my bike to grocery shop. It would be nice if there was a company that made them for a smaller project, like a 1 " ball and coupler.

by:

The Galvanized tire rim looks great and the tire is the same that came with the trailer so Im a 100% satisfied. Thanks for great products.

by:

Good product, working as it should, no issues at one year plus.

by:

Exactly what I was looking for and arrived so quickly. This is a good quality towball, clean thread and nut fits well, the ball surface is excellent quality. The long shank makes it easy to get threaded on the heavier class 3 hitch bar.
I had a 2" ball for my truck but needed the smaller 1 7/8" ball for my light trailer and this fits the same hitch without any problem. Now I can just swap out the balls depending on what I'm towing.

The etrailer Curt Hidden Hitch was almost $200 less expensive than the suburu dealer, without installation. Thank you etrailer your suburu install video was fantastic. Very apprehensive about removing the entire rear bumper panel on my new outback; but had my laptop open in the back of the suv,and installed like clockwork. Hidden hitch has no unsightly drop bars hanging
Below the bumper. Unbelievable price, looks and
Tows great, and saved well over $350 installing
Myself. Suby looks great, and friends are amazed I
would tackle this job myself...This is my 2nd hitch
from etrailer, and I like the efficiency, and detail of your website. HATS OFF to you etrailer. Satisfied customer...

The hitch was very easy to install, took about 30 min. It fits perfectly to my 2001 Ford Ranger. The tow bar is very sturdy and is very well made! The delivery was fast, I ordered it on a Monday, and it arrived on Friday.
I would most DEFINETLY recommend this to anyone who is considering this for a tow bar.

I bought this to use on our forklift that we use for moving trailers around. The old one barely had any threads left on it. This one does exactly what a trailer ball should do.

Purchased hitch ball, ball mount, hitch extender, wiring extension, safety chain extension, and storage bags for a Jeep Liberty. ETrailer has a great selection of products, with good prices, and fast shipping. We will definitely buy from them again.
We have not had an opportunity to use the items purchased, but anticipate no problems.

Bought the hitch and electrical connection for a Honda.

Everything was designed to fit and connect perfectly. The job took about an hour, mostly for cleaning out the Honda threaded holes in the frame. The electrical assembly was especially enjoyed because everything fit and worked. Having the videos on your site probably made everything happen in an easier fashion.

Both the product and the supplier are highly recommended. Five out of five stars.

It fits. Good price. I had some trouble with the lock washer not locking the nut as well as I'd like. Possibly a threading issue? Added a drop of lok-tite and presto.

What else do you say? It is a ball hitch?

A good product and worth buying as an accessory to your etrailer tow hitches and wiring harnesses.

by:

I purchased a hitch, ball mount, ball and wiring for my Frontier. I thought your people were very pleasant. professional and helpful. I did have an issue with power to my lights but after watching one of your video instructions, I realized that I needed to purchase some additional in cab wiring that was shipped promptly. Just installed it and everything works perfectly. By buying your products and doing it myself, I saved about $150. Nice! Thanks

by:

Good product at a good price with fast shipping, but the instructional videos are outstanding for DIY installation. Other than a few easily touched up scratches on the hitch from shipping, it was a very good experience. Did I mention the GREAT videos.

by:

great customer service, fast delivery

Great trailer hitch, receiver and ball. Installed as promised. Very easy! Recently put it to the "test" by towing a full 6' x 12' rental trailer. Aux. braking system of trailer was not functional and I was concerned that my hitch would not be up for added strain. All during the 2000 mile+ trip, everything performed outstanding. Never once indicating that they would fail.

by:

It's a ball. They got the right size and everything. etrailer rocks.

by:

I purchased a hitch assembly from eTrailer for my Subaru Crosstrek and have been extremely please with the performance! Installation was well documented, equipped with all of the necessary accessories, and took less than an hour to install.

This is my second purchase from eTrailer.com. Their web site is easy to navigate and you are able to order what you need even if you don't know the first thing about trailer hitches. Their deliveries are always fast and accurate as well. Our next vehicle is just about ready for towing. Thanks eTrailer.

by:

Excellent merchandise, promptly delivered. The website very helpful with regard to installation. This was the second hitch I have purchased from etrailer - both were very positive experiences.

by:

I am very happy with my experience with E trailer. Jason's knowledge of the products necessary to meet our needs made shopping quick and easier than going to a store front as I had his undivided attention. The products showed up in excellent condition about a week sooner than expected. The emails informing me of the order and shipping status were very helpful. Instructions are easy to follow. I will recommend e-trailer to anyone as it was recommended to me.

  • Trailer Hitch Fit Suggested for 2016 Toyota Highlander
I am not aware of any instance where a trailer hitch properly installed on a Toyota Highlander has been broken or bent. As long as the 5000 lb towing capacity/500 lb tongue weight of the # C13394 or the 6000 lb towing/900 lb tongue weight capacity of the # C13200 hitch isn't exceeded, the hitch will not bend or break.
