Today, we're going to be taking a look at the BMW Tow and Stow 3 Ball Mount. This is designed for 2 inch x 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. The ball mount with the built in hitch balls is going to let you hitch up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank slides into the receiver tube of your hitch, and then the hitch balls are going to provide the connections for your trailer coupler. This unit features a stowable design. It's a very unique feature of the BMW Tow and Stow Ball Mounts. What that does is, it lets you store the hitch balls, and the mounting platform on the backside of the mounting block underneath the hitch of the vehicle.
In order to get it to a stowed position, you'd want to go ahead and pull and the clips and pins. What we're going to do is, we're going to rotate the hitch balls so that the flat side is up. Then you can bring this around the back side. Line back up the pin holes, and reinsert the pins and clips to secure everything in place. What this does is, it gives a clean, finished look to the back of the vehicle. It takes the hitch balls in the platform, puts them under the hitch.
That way when you're maneuvering around the back of the vehicle, you don't have to worry about running into the hitch balls, and it's going to expose the officially licensed gold colored brown in logo, and it's just going to add some style to the vehicle. When you're ready to tow, all you've got to do is pull all the pins and clips, rotate the platform back out, and then you can swivel this around to whatever hitch ball that you need for your towing application. Secure the hitch ball in place by installing one of the pins and clips. This does have an adjustable height design, as well. The adjustable height design is going to let you tow trailers of different heights, and still use the same vehicle, and the same ball mount. It's also going to help ensure that the ball heights is level with the coupler height for your trailer, which is going to offer a nice, level, towing set up. To adjust the height, have those back two pins pulled, and then you can adjust this up and down that mounting block.
The unit can be used in either the drop, or the rise positions. Once you have the height set, go ahead and reinstall the pins and the clips. The unit is going to offer 3 different sized hitch balls to let you tow trailers with different coupler sizes. You're going to get a 1 7/8 inch ball, a 2 inch, and a 2 5/16 inch ball. These are made from a steel construction. They have have a chrome nickel plating which is going to do a great job resisting rust and corrosion.
The unit is made from a steel construction, and it's going to feature a black, powder coat finish, which is going to be highly resistant to rust and corrosion. It uses a high yield tubing which is going to offer superior strength and durability. The pins are going to be made from a stainless steel construction. That's going to create sturdy, rust proof connections. To get it secured inside of your hitch, it does require a hitch pin and clip, or a hitch lock. Those items are sold separately. If you're in need of one, you can find them here at etrailer.com. The pin holes on the unit will accept a 5/8 inch diameter pin. When using the 1 7/8 inch ball, you're going to have a gross towing weight capacity of 5,000 pounds. When using the 2 inch ball, it's going to be 7500 pounds. When using the 2 5/16 inch ball, you're going to have a gross towing weight capacity of 10,000 pounds. A few measurements I want to go over with you real quick. We're going to take some measurements from the center of the hitch pin holes, to the center of the hitch balls. You can see here at the back of the shank, you're going to have 2 pin hole locations. You simply just choose whatever one works best for your application. From the center of the hitch balls, to the center of that first pin hole, that's going to give us a measurement of 9 1/4 inches. To the rear pin hole, we're looking at about 10 3/8 of an inch. The pin holes here at the shank are going to be separated by 1 1/8 inches. The distance from the center of the pin holes, to the front of that mounting block, if this is in the stowed position, this is how far the front of the mounting blocks are going to be from the center of the pin hole on your hitch. To the closet pin hole, we're looking at about 4 1/2 inches. To that rear pin hole, we're looking at about 5 5/8 of an inch. With it at it's lowest setting, and if we we're to install it just like this. This would be the drop position. It's going to give us a maximum drop of 3 inches. That's measuring from the inside top edge of the receiving tube of our hitch, or the top of the shank, to the top of the ball platform. It's going to give us a maximum rise, if we flip it over in the rise position at the highest setting, it's going to give us a maximum rise of 3 1/2 inches doing those same measurements. The holes here on the mounting block, these are going to be separated on center by 1 inch. That way, the platform can adjust in increments of 1 inch, so you can achieve the height that you need for your particular application. I LOVE this hitch! Never have to dig through the toolbox for the right size anymore! Tucks away so nicely and looks great in the storage position. Takes 30 seconds to move it from storage to towing! Worth the money!

This ball mount is extremely heavy duty. I had a stock class IV hitch and aftermarket ball mount on my Ram 3500 SRW and it was bending towing a 14000 lb dump trailer. I upgraded to a class V hitch and this mount and it's working great. I have 6 trailers that I pull with gooseneck, 5th wheel and ball hitches. The only 1 that uses 1 7/8" ball is a little 5x8 utility trailer that I'm converting to 2" so I got the 2 ball instead of the 3. When turned sideways it works as a step to get into the truck but only if the tailgate is up. It doesn't stick out far enough when the tailgate is open.
The reason for 1 less star is the documentation; you need more information to make the best choice. I originally ordered a different PN and it hung way too low bc is mounted under the existing hitch. To remove the stock hitch, you also remove the integrated mounting brackets for the bumper. I ordered a PN for a truck without a hitch and cut off the receiver tube with a torch. Also, I upgraded the 3 1/2" exhaust to 4" and now at idle the exhaust rattles on the much larger frame of the class V but a slight modification in planned to take care of that. Installation was fairly straighforward once I removed the original receiver tube.
This is a serious hitch!! Well designed and built. Easy to install and change out. You only need a locking hitch pin on the receiver as the ball and carrier are machined into the hitch. Super fast delivery from etrailer. Great company and I buy from them for all my trailer and truck needs.
I purchased this hitch for my 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 which has the multiple tailgate. The hitch was in the stow position but still damaged my tailgate when I had the tailgate fully down and used the step feature. it bent the metal and scratched the paint. So please be aware this hitch is not recommended for the 2024 GMC sierra 3500 with multiple tailgate.

My hitch arrived on time and packaged up perfectly I was notified along the way so I knew when it would be arriving. Great quality American made product. Looks almost too nice to be a trailer hitch you can tell the company put some time into the design and manufacturing of this hitch. Simple and easy to stow I probably won’t need to buy another hitch for a long long time but if I did it would be another BW hands down
Convenient. One thing bothers me about this hitch, and that’s the noise. It’s very noisy and rattles. I bought anti rattle clamp and the rubber silencers but still makes noise. Also it always looks pointing inward toward the truck, it always catches my attention when I do a walk around.
seems to be well built, haven't used it yet. Thought I would be pulling a pontoon trailer, but it fell through and have never used the tow and stow ball mount.

I love this hitch. With a locking pin, it stays on my truck all the time. Here’s why:
Height adjustment. This truck was tall when I bought it, so I needed the drop for my trailers to ride level.
3 balls. We have 3 trailers of different sizes and weights, so all 3 balls get used.
And a step! Even when not towing, I use this step to access the bed all the time.
Fits my 3” receiver without an adapter.
Spend the money and you will have no regrets down the road.
This hitch is great, looks sharp, and is very rugged. Only wish was that with my gmc that is equipped with the step fold down gate, i had hoped when the hitch was in the hide away mode(folded up under) that the tailgate would have cleared the hitch, it did not. I dont think it is possible due to thw gate design, but its close.

Extremely well built and very substantial. Comes with a Lifetime warranty . . . but I doubt I’ll ever need to use it given its construction. Received it in just a couple days after placing the order.
Excellent heavy duty hitch if you need the ability to two different height trailers and different hitch sizes. It’s really nicely built, looks great. If I didn’t need to accommodate different size hitches I might go a different route because that ball on the bottom side of the hitch hangs fairly low. I did need that so it’s perfect for my needs. Easy to adjust for height and the ball switch is just as slick. I would buy it again.
I purchased the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 3" Drop, 3-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black and am extremely happy with it. It was $100 cheaper than anywhere else I shopped. Was delivered quickly and was an easy install. I used it to haul a trailer full of wood that I cut up and it got the job done! It is very heavy duty and takes the place of multiple single hitches. It’s nice to have all the options in one.
Had to upgrade my hitch as my new-to-me truck has a larger 2-1-2” receiver. My previous hitch was a Curt and served me well. However, the fit and finish on this BW was much better. I like that I can turn the ball to face forward minimizing the shin smacks. One cool feature was the ball carrier does not fall off with both pins removed. It stays attached and allows you to slide it around with it dropping to the ground. Nice!
