Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball

Today we'll be taking a look at part #C40032, this is the Curt 1-7/8" hitch ball. It's got a nice high-rise design to it, it's going to let you easily match the ball to your trailer height. The trailer hitch ball sits 2 extra inches above the ball mount platform. We've got the fine threads here on the shank, that's going to provide a nice, tight, strong grip that we're looking for, steel construction with a nickel-chrome finish to resist rust and corrosion. You're going to get your hitch ball, you're going to get lock-washer, and your nut for a full installation. When installing this, you'd place this through your draw-bar or through that ball hole, lock-washer goes on the underside followed by the nut and then you would need to get that tightened down according to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. The hitch ball diameter is going to measure 1 and 7/8 of an inch, it's going to have a capacity of 3500 pounds. That rise, right there, that's where you can see that two inch measurement.

The shank length from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threads is 2-1/8", it's going to give us a shank diameter of about one inch, and then the measurement that we have from the bottom of the platform to the top of the hitch ball that's going to give us a measurement of right at 4-3/8". That's going to do it for today's look at part #C40032.

Excellent tow ball. Solved the problem that the original towing hitch was to low for our tandem boat trailer.
Has been used extensively over the last year towing our boat without any issues.

Exactly was I was looking for...I am going cross country on a motorcycle trip and I am pulling a trailer for gear and supplies. This riser puts my trailer at level while attached to my bike. Delivered on time, great solid product.

Very impressed with this ball, chromed, the shank is quite long... I'll be able to add another bolt and get 3/4" to and inch rise out of it. My intent is to use this on my motorcycle and trailer. I'll post pictures later. Thanks highly satisfied! !!

I bought a 2" ball extension to cure my problem with my trailer tracking. It is exactly what I needed & wanted. My trailer is now tracking level. It was delivered in timely manner. Cured my problem with trailer tire wear. Have & will continue to to share my pleasure of dealing with you. Thank you for excellent customer service and product.

The ball is used behind my motorcycle. My goldwing hitch sits lower than level on the trailer I have. This ball allows the trailer to sit level. It pulls smooth and is built very strong. Great product at excellent value. Was ordered easily over Internet and shipped within 24 hours and arrived in 3 days. Very satisfied with product and service.

As a owner of a auto repair shop i have used this site to help customers find the right trailer hitch for there car and for me ones that are mostly bolt up to car and etrailer.com makes it easy for me the installer and the customer.

excellent quality and workmanship

I had a great experience with etrailer! This was my first time using the company after finding them on an internet search. They were the only source I found who had a 1 7/8" ball hitch with a 2" rise. The price was what I expected pay. The order shipped the same day and arrived as described a few days later. I have yet to use the product but have no concerns it will work as I expect it to. Thank you!

by:

I needed to raise my trailer mover up about 2 inches. The hitch ball was exactly what was needed. It was about as heavy duty as you can get. Worked great.

by:

Worked great. My trailer behind my Can-Am Spyder motorcycle was always looking like it was going to drag on something. The two inch rise ball was exactly what I needed.

by:

This is my first experience with etrailer. I purchased a raised hitch ball that I couldn't find locally. Great experience with no hassles. I received my product today. Quality is excellent.

by:

Well constructed.

by:

Nice product, seems well built. Would like to see a hex at the bottom of the 'rise' for installation purposes. This is going to be tough to torque onto the hitch without that.

by:

I am using this product to level the tongue from my trailer to the motorcycle. Works perfectly. This is the second time I have ordered parts from etrailer, and their service has been phenomenal. I would recommend them for all towing needs.

by:

Does a perfect job of raising the tongue on my motorcycle pull behind trailer to make the trailer ride level.

by:

I ordered this for an "older" motorcycle rider friend(80!) and they can be so impatient...it arrived promptly, in excellent condition, and was the perfect weight and size...will definitely use etrailor and Michele again! thanks.

  • Does the Curt 2" Hitch Ball # C40033 with High-Rise come in a 1-7/8" Version
We do have 1-7/8" Curt hitch balls like the 2" part # C40033 that come with a high-rise. If you just need a 1" rise then you will want part # C40031, but if you need a 2" rise you will want part # C40032 instead. Both are rated for 3,500 lbs

  • How to Tow a Trailer Level
You have the right mindset, you do want to have the height of your hitch ball so that it allows the trailer to be towed as level as possible. To do that check out the link I attached. The best option I could provide would be for you to remove the fixed hitch from the vehicle you have an install a custom hitch for the vehicle that will allow you to use a ball mount. Doing this will allow you to select the correct rise/drop ball mount you need so that you can tow your trailer level. Follow...

  • Ball Mount to Clear Rear Bumper on 2013 Toyota Sienna and Provide Close to 7 Inch Rise
Based on your measurements getting exactly what you need is a little tricky but I have some possible options for you. I can get you close to the rise you need by using ball mount # D-28, which has a 4 inch rise, with hi rise ball # C40034 or # C40032, both of these balls offer another 2 inches of height for a total rise of 6 inches. The tongue weight of the trailer will pull it down a little so at most you would be off level by 1 inch.

  • Multipupose Ball Mount to Tow a Trailer and Bike Rack at Same Time that Doesnt have a Drop
You wouldn't want to use MaxxTow MT70070 anyway because it will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. The Curt multipurpose ball mount # D210 is going to be the best option. To overcome the 2-1/4 inch drop you can use a ball with a rise such as # C40034. This is a 2 inch ball rated for 6,000 pounds. It has a 2 inch rise so the drop of the ball mount would only be 1/4 inch. We also have ball # C40033 with a 1 inch rise. If you require a 1-7/8 inch ball...

  • Tips for Tightening Curt Hi Rise Hitch Ball
The totally round base of the Curt hi-rise ball like part # C40032 does make it challenging to torque the nut of. There really isn't a great solution but a large set of channel locks or vice grips could work if you were trying to do it with the ball mounted in a trailer hitch. Or if you have access to a vice on a work bench that would be the best to secure it.

  • High-Rise Hitch Ball to Increase Height for Motorcycle Towing Camper Trailer
I understand your need but we do not have any 1-7/8-inch couplers with height adjustment. Such items do exist for higher-capacity 2-5/16-inch couplers. To even out the height difference between your two tow vehicles you might use a high-rise hitch ball on the bike. Curt 1-7/8-inch ball # C40032 gives you 2-inches of additional height over a standard ball.

I believe the correct ball mount for you to use would be the Brophy Ball Mount # BM20. This ball mount has a distance of 13-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the nearest part of the ball mount platform, and since the hitch on your 2012 Toyota RAV4 has a distance of 9.5 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest point of the bumper I believe this ball mount would work well for you. This ball mount also has a rise of 2-3/4 inches, and if you get a...

We offer a range of hi-rise hitch balls but none has a 3/4-inch diameter shank; all are 1-inch or 1-1/4-inch diameter. You can instead use a ball mount with the equivalent rise to accomplish the height adjustment you need.
