Video Transcript for Review of B and W Trailer Hitch Ball - Raw Steel 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball - BWHB94004

Hi everybody. Andy here with and today we're gonna take a brief look at this B&W two and five 16 inch hitch ball. This hitch ball is going to give you a connection point for your trailer's coupler and it has fine threads, actually 12 threads per inch, that's going to give you a tight and strong grip. And this is made here in the USA of heat treated steel, so it's strong and durable. It has a weight capacity of 30,000 pounds and it does have a raw steel finish to it. Now you are going to get this two and five 16 inch hitch ball.

The lock washer and the nut are also included. And if we take a measurement of the shank length from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threads, lining up my ruler there. Looks like we're sitting right at two and a half inches. And then just the threaded portion, we are sitting right at, right about one and three quarters of an inch. And then the shank diameter is going to be right at one and a quarter inches.

Now when installing this, you're just going to place this through the ball hole on your ball mount, followed by the lock washer that goes underneath and then the nut. And then you would just need to torque this down to the specifications listed by your manufacturer. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy.

Thank you for joining me..

Raw, heat-treated hitch ball from B&W has a 1-1/4" diameter x 2-1/2" long shank with 12 threads per inch. Designed for heavy-duty towing.

Heavy duty ball hitch. Heavy enough for anything.

Exactly as ordered, shipped and delivered in a expedient amount of time. Have never been disappointed by etrailer.

Great pricing fastservice.

Very good heavy duty rating which is what I wanted. Etrailer was great to work with.

I love the product demonstrative videos, and the service is excellent every time!

Great selection of parts, great service, quick shipping, and high quality of parts.

That is one massive ball. Pulking my 12K toy hauler I'll never need to worry about breaking this thing.

Great quality. I have no problem paying for Made in USA, and am grateful
to have the option.

This is a great Product

So far, so good. Just make sure you get yourself a REAL big socket - the nut on this thing is GIGANTIC. My 15" adjustable wrench wouldn't even open far enough. I used a monkey wrench (adjustable plumber's wrench) with a 4' cheater bar on it to tighten. I work on small engines, not diesels, so nothing I had was big enough. Just FYI ...

Put over 10k towing miles on it - still good. Surface rust because its unpainted, but thats going to happen with raw, unpainted steel in the Northeast. I keep the top half greased with Amsoil off-road 2, and all is well.

Great value. Nothing fancy but as you know….. it’s a Hitch Ball destined for dirty hard work.
Works great. The product you don’t think about as it just works.

Working well

Its a trailer ball. Worked with a 13K load no problems after it was greased. It was a good deal for the price.I would purchase another one if I needed one.

This ball is hard as hell.

Exactly what I needed for the food trailers we produce!
Heavy tongue weights are now controlled.

This is a very well made tow ball. Fit and finish is nice - oxide finish, no paint or plating, which is fine by me. I like that it is of domestic origin.

Order was processed by eTrailer quickly. It took over 5 days to arrive (I paid for 3-5 day shipping), but I suspect that was UPS / holiday shipping issue.

high quality, heavy duty.

B&W makes great American made products! Thank you for selling them. P.S. i don't work for B&W either. Great raw high strength ball. Period

Sure aughta handle my load and then some, real quality material. The biggest part of this transaction is the attention to detail by e-trailer, great people.

Wanted a "Made in USA" product. This was overkill for our needs, but it will last forever. Can develop minor surface rust, but not enough to be a nuisance.

Built like a tank, it looks like its milled from one single piece of metal. Really fine smooth threads like I haven't had before on a hitch. High quality.

The Best hitch ball available anywhere

The hitch ball looks really good. It was easy to install because the treads were so well cut. The ball itself looks really smooth.

All items shipped immediately, were well packed, and arrived safely. Each item is very high quality and meets or exceeds advertising description. Communication has been excellent from the time the order was placed. I plan to do more business with etrailer.

Best quality hitch ball I've ever seen.

  • Upgraded Trailer Hitch For A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 For Towing A 10K Trailer
Yes I recommend upgrading your tow package on your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15312.This trailer hitch has a bolt-on installation and has a maximum gross trailer weight capacity up to 16,000 pounds. This hitch will also have the standard 2 inch by 2 inch receiver head. Though the Curt hitch is rated up to 16,000 pounds yow can only tow up to what your Silverado can handle, you will be able to find the recommend towing capacity of your vehicle...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for 37 foot Forest River XLR 29KW Toy Hauler
1,500 lbs of tongue weight is pretty heavy but we do have weight distribution systems that are rated high enough for that. We have the Reese Titan part # RP66006 which has a tongue weight range of 1,000 to 1,700 lbs which would work well. Then for a hitch ball we have the part # BWHB94004 which has a 30k capacity. Then for a 2-1/2 inch hitch shank with a 17k capacity we have the part # RP54977 which would work well.

  • What is the Country of Origin for Curt Trailer Hitch Ball # C40030
The Curt trailer hitch balls are all made in China. Many trailer hitch receivers too are made outside the U.S. but Curt does manufacture their hitches stateside. The 2-5/16-inch hitch ball you referenced, Curt # C40030, has a 15K gross trailer weight capacity. For a comparably-rated 2-5/16-inch chrome-plated ball that is made here in the U.S. you can use B&W part # BWHB94004. This is rated for 30,000-lbs. Its shank is 1-1/4-inches in diameter and 2-1/2-inches long.

  • Would the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball Have a 3,000 lb Tongue Weight Rating
Couplers and hitch balls are rated only for gross trailer weights. But the common total trailer weight to tongue weight ratio that is used is 10 percent. So the 30k rated hitch ball part # BWHB94004 would have a 3,000 lb tongue weight rating easily.

The Weight Distribution System that will work for a trailer that big is the TorkLift SuperHitch Everest Weight Distribution System - 30,000 lbs GTW, 3,000 lbs TW # TLWD1000. If you can tell me the vehicle you have I can match a Torklift (TorkLift) receiver that will work with this weight distribution system. • 2-5/16 Hitch Ball That is Made in America
The Curt 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40085 is made overseas, though we do have a similar hitch ball that is made in America, the B&W # BWHB94004. Like the Curt hitch ball, the B&W is 2-5/16", has a 1-1/4" shank and a 30,000 lb towing capacity. The shank on the B&W is 2-1/2" long, which is 1/8" shorter than the shank on the Curt ball.

  • Would B and W Hitch Ball BWHB94004 Work to Tow a 7,500 lb Boat and Trailer
The hitch ball part # BWHB94004 that you referenced is a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball with more than enough capacity for your 7,500 lb boat and trailer. As long as the ball hole in your ball mount is 2-1/2 inches in diameter this would work for you. If not I attached a link to a page that has all of the 2-5/16 inch hitch balls we carry.

  • How Long Should Hitch Ball Shank Be to Fit Curt Forged Ball Mount # C45458
The 2-1/2 inch shank length on B&W ball # BWHB94004 might be just a bit too short for ball mount # C45458. The recommended ball, # C40008, has a shank length of 2-3/4 inches. Basically the shank has to be long enough for the nut to thread all the way on with about 3 or more threads sticking out past the bottom of the nut.

  • Will B & W Heat-Treated Hitch Ball Work in Gooseneck Hitch?
When I reached out to B & W regarding your question, they advised me that the product # BWHB94004 is not rated for use with a gooseneck. That product is made more for a hitch ball opening on a bumper and it is a threaded application. I have linked all the Gooseneck hitch balls we have available.

  • Will the B and W Hitch part # BWHDRH25132 Fit a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 6 foot Bed
Yes, the B and W Heavy Duty trailer hitch part # BWHDRH25132 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 6 foot bed that has either a standard or step bumper. For a heavy duty hitch with as much capacity as this hitch has you really aren't going to find a better deal. For a ball mount you would want the part # BWBMHD30010 and then for a 2-5/16 inch ball part # BWHB94004.

  • Trailer Wiring and Weight Distribution Ball for a 1993 Dodge W350
For your 1993 Dodge W350 you can use Curt trailer wiring harness # C55317. It plugs in line with the truck tail light wiring. But if you are concerned about overloading the truck wiring I recommend a hardwire, powered harness # C59496. This will draw power for the trailer lights directly from the truck battery. Then to add a 7-Way you will need # ETBC7. I have included some links that show and explain the # ETBC7 installation. The links also explain how a brake controller will be installed....

  • Will a Trailer Hitch Ball with a Raw Finish Last as Long as a Ball with a Chrome Finish
A chrome finish ball is going to look good but it will not be corrosion resistant. A ball with a machine finish like # C40041, is going to have about the same corrosion resistance. In terms of performance they will wear at about the same rate under normal use. The best balls in terms of corrosion are going to be stainless steel followed by zinc coated balls. But in terms of balls that have a 30,000 pound capacity and a 1-1/4 inch shank, ball # BWHB94004 or # C40085 are the only options....
