Video Transcript for Spindle Nut Kit for EZ Lube Axles: The Breakdown

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna take a look at the spindle nut kit for E-Z Lube Axles. Now, this part will replace the spindle nut, the D washer, and the nut retainer on your E-Z Lube Axles with this complete kit. This is designed for one inch spindles that have 14 threads per inch thread pitch. This kit is designed for E-Z Lube Axles, because an E-Z Lube Axle does not allow the use of a Cotter pin to retain the nut on the spindle. It has to use the nut retainer to work on an E-Z Lube Axle. This part will include everything shown here, the two spindle nuts, the two D washers, and the two nut retainers.

So, when you go to install these on the spindle you'll first put your D washer on, then you'll screw your nut on, and then clamp on your nut retainer to hold it into place. That should do it for the review on the spindle nut kit for the E-Z Lube Axles.

Product arrived promptly and was as advertised. All in all a very good transaction.

Ok set. I bought 2 sets for our 2 axle travel trailer. First set was pretty good. Second set the washers were both thinner and rusted on one side. Both sets the nuts were difficult to get started on the spindle. Worked out fine in the end.

Parts were exactly as described and delivered super fast to my home!
Will definitely order again from etrailer!

I am in the process of inspecting and repacking the wheel bearings on a pair of Dexter 7K easylube axles. I bought a set of these to have as spares for the project. I received the Dexter axle washer, nut and retainer in a timely manner. The nut and retainer are nearly indistinguishable (to me) from the original Dexter parts. The Washer ID and thickness is the same as the original Dexter part, but the OD is slightly smaller but that doesn't appear to be a problem to me.

by:

Called on a Monday morning to inquire if items I needed were in stock. Sales agent very helpful and polite, offered to take order then for quicker processing. Placed order for 2 new trailer tires w/rims and tang washer kit (hard to find) for my older trailer which doesn't have the cotter pin setup.

Standard delivery was free with my order, and I upgraded to 3-5 day express for a few bucks more to insure I could install by weekend.

All parts arrived in Jacksonville FL on Thursday afternoon, so I could install on the weekend. Tracked shipment all along the way.

All in all, products were as expected and very reasonably priced, service was great, delivery was on time.

Will use eTrailer again!

I was servicing the bearings on my RV trailer and damaged one of the locking plates. I was unable to find this style lock nut and plate anywhere locally. I tried parts stores, RV dealerships and another source that deals in specialized automotive and trailer repairs. I had to settle for the castle nut with the bend in tab. I should have done a goggle search but I need to get on the road. A quick search and there is the item I need. Great Price and now I have a couple of spares for the next time I service the bearings.

by:

I've have been rebuilding a flat bed trailer, that I use for hauling rat rods and potential rat rods, and everything I have ordered from etrailer has been great. Fast shipping, excellent job on keeping me updated on tracking information. They also have great videos on how to information. Very pleased with this company, and how they operate. When I need something for my trailer, I don't look anywhere else, I just go straight to these guys, and know they will have just what I need. Thank you very much!!!!

by:

Perfect fit for my trailer to replace a castle nut and retaining washer that was gacked on one side. No issues installing, so far so good! Overall looked like quality pieces that give you peace of mind towing. The old retaining washer got messed up by the previous owner or whoever serviced the axles last and was actually allowing the castle nut to back off the axle. This new piece looks much more secure than the old style.

by:

I am very pleased with the speed of the delivery and the exact replacement parts I needed. They are a perfect fit for my 10 year old boat trailer.
The ease of finding parts on the website that I needed to repair my hubs was extremely important to me as we are still very active with our boat . Without the parts we were stuck on dry land. Not a good way to end the year. But etrailer.com came to the rescue and we were back on the water.
Thank you for all your help....

by:

No pictures because all you would see is a nut, retainer and a ball of grease.

In short, I couldn’t find what I needed (the retaining ring) anywhere locally. The internet and etrailer came to the rescue! Everything fit perfectly and my trailer is functional again.

The order was shipped promptly and, if needed, I will go to the etrailer sight first next time!!

by:

These were exactly what i needed. Price was good and it is a much better locking system then the ones that were on the axle to start with. I am a fan of a cotter pin and not the flat spot on the axle but you have to work with what you have. I love these guys the few times I have dealt with them is excellent.

by:

Replaced brakes and drums on 3.5K Dexter EZ lube axles. The parts were exact change-out. Quality is as good or better than the originals.

by:

I probably could have reused the original parts and saved some money, but it is great to have totally new Hub Assys (and retention fasteners) on my trailer.

  • How to Install the Spindle Nut Kit # RG05-100
After you have your hub and bearings on your spindle you will then put on the washer, then the nut, and then the nut retainer (yellow piece) from the Nut Kit # RG05-100. The nut retainer helps to keep the nut from backing off and, ultimately, your hub. You can see this process being performed at the 4:25 mark in the attached installation video.

  • Do I Need to Have a Castle Nut or Cotter Pin to Keep Spindle Nut From Backing Off
If you only have the nut and a washer but no cotter pin or retaining type washer on the end then that isn't correct and you want to get a piece to help prevent that nut from backing off. If you have a setup like the Spindle Nut Kit for EZ Lube Axles # RG05-100 with the weird looking washer on the outside then that is okay because the weird washer is designed to help keep the nut in place. Let me know if you're needing something to secure it and I can help you with the correct part if you...

  • Install Video for Trailer Spindle Castle Nut
I believe I found the video you are referring to and have attached it below. You will want to fast forward to the 4:45 mark to see the spindle castle nut procedure. As you mentioned you will basically just want to tighten the nut until it stops by itself. You don't want to actually torque it down to any specific spec. I have attached a link that will also take you to our available selection of spindle castle nuts that you can look through if needed.

  • Replacement Grease Seal and Bearing Kit For a 2020 Grand Design Solitude 375RES With 7,000LB Axles
Your Dexter axle on your 2020 Grand Design Solitude does use the Grease Seal # GS-2250DL. This seal is also found in our Bearing Kit # BK3-200 which I do recommend keeping on hand incase you have an issue while on the road. The kit contains the Seal # GS-2250DL, Inner Bearing # 25580, Inner Race # 25520, Outer Bearing # 14125A, and Outer Race # 14276. The hub part number # 8-258-5UC1-EZ that you referenced would be the correct hub for you as it would be an exact replacement to what you currently have. It comes with a set of matching bearings to fit your spindle. The spindle nut/washer kit you would need would be the part # RG05-100.

The Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-545-35-G-EZ-K does not come with the spindle nut. That would come with your axle. For a 3,500 lb axle you would want the Spindle Nut Kit for EZ Lube Axles # RG05-100. The Nut is a 1 inch nut with 14 threads. The socket or wrench needed for this is 1-1/2 inch. If you just want the nut # 6-191. For the retainer # 6-190.

  • Spindle Nut Recommendation for a 3,500 lb Axle
Since you have a 3,500 lb axle most likely the diameter of the threaded portion of the spindle is 1 inch. You will need to verify that. And since the spindle has a hole in it for a cotter pin you would need a castle nut. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. The Spindle Nut Kit # RG05-100 that you referenced is for a different style spindle so I would not recommend it for you.

  • Recommended 1" Diameter Spindle Nut Kit

  • Spindle Nut Kit Recommendation for a Dexter 6k Axle
Since the D60 Dexter Axle uses a cotter pin and castle nut the # RG05-100 would not be the correct kit for you. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. People use channel locks typically for installation and removal of these castle nuts since they don't really get torqued down and the length of the spindle prevents most standard sockets from being easily used.

This will have two nuts, washers and keepers. For the non EZ-Lube axles use the Trailer Spindle Nut 1" part # 165686 and the Cotter Pin part # 165649. these are individual so you will want two of each to have all you need. You can confirm these will fit on your axles by measuring your spindle and ensuring that your it has 1" threads on it.

I was unable to find any specific information about your trailer to know anything about the axles that came on the trailer. • Dexter EZ Lube Bearing Kit Recommendation for 3500 lb EZ Lube Spindle that Includes Nut Retainers
The most cost effective way to get the nut retainers is to get the part # BK2-100 and then instead of using the cotter pins use the part # RG05-100 instead. The kit for your hub isn't available and by the time you piece all of the components together it's more cost effective to just get the kit.

Not having a cotter pin is not acceptable but because it is an EZ-Lube hub it should use the Spindle Nut Kit for EZ Lube Axles part # RG05-100. The Tang Replacement Spindle Washer # 5-71 or the Washer Spindle Tongue # 165863 will fit into the groove of your spindle to keep the washer and nut from rotating. This gives you a similar outcome to the tang style washer that uses the cotter pin to hold it, but the idea is the stabilization of that washer that will keep slight pressure on the flat side of the tapered bearing to hold it in place. This is one style similar to a D style washer as well like Spindle Nut Kit for EZ Lube Axles...
