Question:
how a tongue washer is installed onto a spindle with a tapered roller bearing.

Expert Reply:
The Tang Replacement Spindle Washer # 5-71 or the Washer Spindle Tongue # 165863 will fit into the groove of your spindle to keep the washer and nut from rotating. This gives you a similar outcome to the tang style washer that uses the cotter pin to hold it, but the idea is the stabilization of that washer that will keep slight pressure on the flat side of the tapered bearing to hold it in place. This is one style similar to a D style washer as well like Spindle Nut Kit for EZ Lube Axles # RG05-100. You simply need to match the spindle style, so the spindle washer only works with a spindle that has a single channel groove in the threading.
