If you’re ready to move on from worn or dragging drum brakes, this Kodiak setup is a big step up. The 12" hub-and-rotor assemblies give quick, consistent braking that feels steady and smooth. Ceramic brake pads and a large 2-1/4" stainless steel piston deliver real stopping power without the grabby feel of old drums. The kit handles 5,200 to 6,000-lb axles with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and works with #42 spindles for a reliable, well-matched fit.
Saltwater, snow, and road chemicals can eat through standard finishes fast, but not these. The Dacromet-coated hub-and-rotor assemblies, calipers, and brackets resist corrosion for 300 to 400 hours in salt spray testing. That makes them a solid choice for trailers that see wet or coastal use. The one-piece cast iron design keeps water out from behind the rotor face, cutting the chance of uneven wear or contamination.

Long grades or frequent stops can build heat that leads to brake fade. These vented rotors pull air through the core to shed heat faster, so braking stays consistent even on heavy hauls or mountain drives. The vented design also helps extend brake pad life by keeping temperatures stable during repeated stops.

Disc brakes naturally have fewer moving parts than drums, which means less upkeep over time. This kit includes everything needed to outfit one axle—two hub-and-rotor assemblies with bearings, races, seals, oil caps, synthetic bearing oil, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. With the caliper located on the outside of the assembly, pad swaps are straightforward when the time comes. The result is a reliable setup that saves time in the garage and performs every trip out.

Each component in this Kodiak kit is built from high-quality automotive-grade materials for lasting strength. The side-support caliper bracket design carries the load on the bracket instead of the bolts, reducing wear and keeping performance solid over time. With 1/2" wheel bolts and a 3-year warranty backing it, this system delivers dependable braking for demanding tow conditions.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Kodiak 12 Inch Hub and Rotor Disc Brake assembly set. This set is going to allow you to upgrade your trailer from drum breaks to disc brakes so you can get the superior performance that comes along with having disc brakes on your trailer. So the two assemblies here are going to replace the brakes for your single axle with a capacity of 5,200 pounds up to 6,000 pounds and the number 42 spindles. Our rotors are 12 inches in diameter and we've got the six on five and a half inch bolt pattern. So this is gonna fit with your 15 inch wheels and larger.
So upgrading your trailer from your drum brakes to disc brakes is going to dramatically shorten your stopping distance. It's also going to provide smoother, more controlled braking than you're used to experiencing with your drum brakes. So it's gonna help keep your trailer from pushing and pulling as you're going down the road. These do feature ceramic brake pads that are going to help increase your stopping power and you can't really see it, but there is a large two and a quarter inch diameter stainless steel piston that's gonna provide fast, responsive breaking for you. Another benefit of having disc breaks is that they are going to require less maintenance than your drum breaks.
There's fewer small parts that could fail that need to be re-tightened and that sort of thing so it's gonna save you time and money in the long run. Having the one piece hub and rotor assembly is going to reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear. It does have the vented design, as you can see here, that's gonna help dissipate the heat faster and prevent premature brake pad wear. So they will hold up well for you. They are a high quality automotive grade construction so they are gonna be very long lasting.
We've got a Dacromet finish on the hub rotor calipers and the mounting bracket here on the back. So that's going to help resist rust and corrosion. It is going to have a 300 to 400 hour salt spray rating so it is gonna be a great option if you are putting these on a boat trailer or in a trailer that's used in coastal areas or heavily treated roads that's gonna have a lot of contact with salt. These are gonna hold up really well for you. So one caveat of switching out your brakes, your disc brakes, are gonna require a higher line pressure than your standard drum brakes.
So you are gonna need a high hydraulic brake actuator and brake lines that are rated for 1500 PSI or above to activate your brakes. So if you don't already have those, we do have them available here at etrailer.com. But this kit is going to provide you with the two Dacromet plated cast iron hub and rotor assemblies with the pre-installed half inch wheel bolts as well as the 12 half inch zinc plated steel lug nuts so you can get your wheels secured in place. Also gonna have the two Dacromet plated cast iron calipers here and those two Dacromet plated ductile iron caliper mounting brackets. These do have the five bolt brake flange configuration so they are going to very easy to get mounted on your axle so you can support those calipers. Now these aren't actually when you go to install them, they're gonna be mounted on the side. I just have them on top right now for demonstration purposes. It's easier to balance them, but when you actually go to mount this, the calipers are gonna be on the side of your assembly here so keep that in mind. That's actually a benefit. It's gonna put the strain on the bracket instead of on the hardware. So the hardware will hold up better for you so kind of a nice design there for that. And then of course we're gonna have the four stainless steel caliper mounting bolts here to get everything put together for us. So in addition to all those components, we're also going to have our inner and outer bearings. You can see those part numbers on the screen there. We're also gonna have our inner and outer races that are pre-installed on our units. You can see that information there as well. So the bearings are going to make sure that we have nice smooth rotation around the axle and the races are where those bearings fit in. This is going to be an oil setup. So we've got a kit here with our two oil seals that go on the back side. Those have a 2.25 inch inner diameter and then a 3.376 outer diameter. And then we're also going to have the two oil caps with the 2.44 outer diameter and an eight ounce bottle of synthetic bearing oil to make sure that everything is well lubricated in there and operating smoothly. So like I said, these are gonna be a great option for you if you are wanting to upgrade from your drum breaks. These are gonna last a while for you with that Dacromet coating on there so I think these are gonna be a great option. And that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

I really like what I purchased. The system is really good and my trailer stops on a diamond gives 9 cents back, this is the way to go on any big trailer. Disks are amazing. No heat way better breaking, less maintenance. You know, the other thing? I did was upgraded My hubs to oil bath, which is another brilliant thing, again less maintenance. Better for the trailer, very impressed. The only negative thing I can say is that the seals for the oil bath are subpare and leaked after only 10 miles then 59 miles, so I had to go to a different manufacture and company and found a very robust seal that worked because the 2 times that yours failed that came from e trailer wasnt good. This is one problem. I think that they need to address and fix the other one. Is the caliper mounting bracket? When you put it on to the existing bolts on the spindle. The factory bolts are not long enough and I think that they should be changed. To a longer one so that you have according to engineering standards API three Threads showing when the nut is Torqued, you cant do it because the caliper mountain bracket is so thick and the bolts arent long enough. I Needed to change those bolts to longer bolt so that you can do this properly and have 3 threads showing past the nut When its torque down. Other than these 2 problems, everything seem to work very well and Im pleased.I have no other issues or concerns Prices were fair.Product came quick and Im real happy. So Far no other complaints for concerns.

Really happy to hear that, Eric! Thanks for sharing the photo too :) When do you get to take the boat out on the water again?
