Features to know about

Effortless Stopping Power: Hydrastar Electric-Over-Hydraulic System

Say goodbye to the inconsistent stopping distances of drum brakes. The Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit features an electric-over-hydraulic system that provides smooth, even braking with a fast response. Perfect for trailers with heavy loads, the system ensures your trailer stops safely and gently, even at highway speeds. With an actuator rated at 1,600 psi, it works seamlessly with most in-cab brake controllers to give you unparalleled confidence on the road.

Built for Durability: Dacromet-Coated Components

Worried about corrosion from driving through wet or salty environments? The Hydrastar 7K kit comes with Dacromet-coated disc brakes that offer strong resistance against corrosion. This makes it perfect for marine applications and long-term use, ensuring that your brake system stays in top condition regardless of the elements.

Simplified Maintenance: Integral Hub-and-Rotor Assemblies

Maintenance becomes hassle-free with the integral hub-and-rotor assemblies, made from cast iron to SAE specifications. Designed to minimize contamination and wear, these assemblies promise a long life and superior performance. With fewer moving parts than drum brakes, maintenance costs are reduced, meaning you spend more time on the road and less time repairing.

Consistent Stopping: Disc Brakes for Confidence in Any Condition

Whether you're descending a steep mountain road or navigating through city traffic, consistent stopping power is crucial. The disc brakes in this kit provide precise braking performance that remains effective in a variety of conditions. This reliability makes every trip stress-free, knowing your trailer will stop exactly when you need it to.

All-Inclusive Package: Everything You Need for Conversion

No more scrambling to find compatible parts. This all-inclusive kit includes hub-and-rotor assemblies with all necessary bearings, races, and seals, a hydraulic tandem-axle brake line kit, an electric-over-hydraulic actuator, and fittings. It's the comprehensive solution to converting from drum to disc brakes, tailored specifically for 7,000 lbs tandem axle trailers.

Peace of Mind on the Road: Day and Night Performance

With this disc brake system, your trailer will feel as responsive as your tow vehicle, even under heavy loads. Experience night and day performance improvements over drum brakes, and enjoy the unmatched peace of mind that comes from knowing your trailer can handle emergency stops with ease. Disc Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.

Integral Hub-and-Rotor Assemblies

The integral hub-and-rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Furthermore, machined disc brakes minimize the chance of contamination between the hub and rotor, resulting in excellent performance and long life.

Great, I love them

by:

I purchased and I installed the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit HSE7K-T1 along with the Prodigy P3 brake controller on my 42'fifth wheel. As the saying goes "why did I wait so long" , I have been running them for a few months now, I wanted to get some miles and testing on the system before I commented so after several roads trips now about 4000 miles I am very pleased. They have worked flawlessly. I have always been on edge when towing, especially in the mountains with the old electric drum brakes. Now I have so much more confidence in stopping and that lifted so much stress off me. The old electric drum brakes just never felt as if they would stop the trailer especially in an emergency stop, but now if you apply the brakes hard you can feel the trailer stopping the truck. I have never been able to lock up the tires on the camper till now.
If you have a little mechanical knowledge the installation is not difficult as long as you plan things out and be patient.
I did have a few hiccups with shipping and a few parts but thanks to Robert all issues were addressed and corrected ASAP and parts were shipped out to me immediately. A special shout out to Robert which answered so many of my questions and helped me with ordering everything I needed to install my kit. etrailer has always been a pleasure to work with. I will never have an RV without Disc Brakes again. Thanks again to Robert and etrailer.

The Hydrastar disc brake kit that I installed is working great and flawlessly, I would not pull another large rig without disc brakes. I have not had any problems with these products since the installation, no adjustments and no leaks. I just upgraded my suspension to the Road Armor equalizer and wet bolt kit and now have piece of mind with the disc brakes and other suspension upgrades. Very satisfied with all the eTrailer products and their outstanding support team.

by:

Switch to disc brakes, the difference is amazing, the installation is pretty straight forward, I don't like the copper tubing would use flexible line next time. It took a diode (I think) from manufacturer to work with my 2024 GM built in brake controller.

by:

I've been tired of wanting more brake. We travel long distances and over mountains. All to often someone pulls into my buffer zone. Then hits the brakes to turn or some other reason. I'm left with "I hope I can stop in time!" Once I knew I couldn't. I actually drove into the ditch to drive around a pile up some other speeder created right after passing me. I have done everything I could to make the brakes better. But I was left wanting more. Time for an upgrade. It was expensive in my mind. (Over 2k!?!) But I bit the bullet and did the upgrade. Someone said they did it in 4 hours. I took my time and hid all the brake lines and actuator between the inside of my frame rails. This included taking out the underbelly and cutting an access hole in my basement. I thought I had only 15 feet of main line, but I had 25 feet. That may have made a difference in locating the actuator. Not a big deal and I like the location. So I made a couple big loops to shorten that line. I did have to buy a 12 inch extension for left to right side of the trailer. Not a big deal. But a parts store run had to be made anyway for the brake fluid. Followed instructions to bleed the brakes. Then tested. I was expecting a big wow factor. I didn't get that. Took it on a trip. After the pads bedded in and the brake controller properly adjusted. I was at controller 9. I was fully loaded with water. (150 gallons) and our side by side loaded. And our 45 foot trailer weighed empty 12.5k. Remember before I was at10 and wanting alot more! I got it! I think any trailer over 12k should have disc brakes. I know I'll install them on any of our trailers over 12k in our future. I think they are worth the money. No more oh crap! Hang on! Moments for us. Oh and I shopped around. E-trailer had the best value. Do your research. You'll see the same as me. Good luck! Safe travels!

etrailer needs to figure out a better way to pack heavy items for shipping

by:

Best thing I ever did for my Shadow Horse Trailer. My trailer was 36 ft long and I never felt like I had the brakes I needed until installing the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit.

by:

This kit was easy to install and our 37’ Montana stops much better than the electric drum brakes they install at the factory! They should put this type on all trailers over 10,000lbs!

by:

I purchased the disc brake system for my 5th wheel to improve the braking. It has proved to be a great unit. We have put over 10K miles on the camper since installing the brakes and I will NEVER have another camper without disc brakes. The system is easy to install. The brake lines took a little planning and I was able to mount the actuator in a convent location and it works great.

Using on 2 out of 3 axles on dump trailer. Two days of use at less then half power setting of brake controller, working great. I added pictures of the install. I do not have pictures of control box mounted. I mounted it inside tool box on trailer.

3 out of 4 calipers working great. One does not release right and eats up the pads fast and right into the rotor.

by:

These brakes work phenomenal. I would never rely on the original electric drum brakes that came on the trailer. It was a diy project and they sent everything I needed to complete the job. When the drum brakes need replacement I would definately go with this set. It stops so much better now and you can see the pads without having to disassemble the entire wheel.

by:

This has been a "game changer" upgrade for our RV. Like auto level initially seemed like something I could live without until I got it. Now that I have hydraulic brakes, I'll never own a heavy RV without them. Absolutely changes how easily and confidently it stops, especially on hills/mountains or emergency braking.

by:

Night a day performance vs. drum, will never pull 14k trailer w/out again. Wasn't too hard to install on my own, took probably about 4 hours, maybe a bit more (I'm not a mechanic though do most all my own wrench work).

by:

It went on pretty easy, haven't driven it yet, but all went well

by:

Always the best customer service

by:

Great powerful brake! With putting these on my 14k toyhauler i will never go back to the old 40 era drum brakes!!!

by:

What a difference disc brakes make compared to drums. Highly recommend the upgrade. Works great.

by:

I don't like the fact that you should not keep the brakes on while at stop light.

Also, having trouble with on board brake controller running it. 2020 GMC 2500HD will activate brakes once but if you let up a bit then step down, I have no trailer braking. Very dis-concerting.

You mentioned that you were not happy with the braking experience of the GMC with the actuator. The actuator of the HydraStar Disc Brake Kit w Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # HSE7K-T1 will maintain brake pressure as long as the brake controller is telling the actuator to maintain it, but what most brake controllers have is a function that after a certain amount of time with the brakes applied the controller stops sending voltage as it assumes you are at a stoplight. I am not sure if your OEM controller stops sending voltage if you let up a little and then reapply the brakes. As far as I know there is not a ready-made solution to change it.

by:

Package was destroyed during shipping. Box was opened. I’m sending it back. Worried about missing, or damaged parts. Seals not protected at all. Loose in box. I’m very disappointed. I’ve gotten things from E-trailer in the past, and have been very happy with packaging. Maybe somebody in the shipping department was having a bad day?

Samuel was terrific helping me determine the best fit for my RV. Can't wait to have them installed. eTrailer is very responsive and knowledgeable. I recommend them to all RV owners!

Great brake system

by:

The box’s were in bad shape by the time I picked them up. You did a good job taping them up otherwise most of the small parts would have not been there. One of the brake lines was crushed. I will have to replace it

by:

This brake system has worked out great. Stops are quicker and more solid than the electric brakes. I did have trouble with one of the calipers. No matter what I did it wouldn’t go on. Luckily, the company that makes them is 20 miles from my house. I took the defective caliper to them and they swapped it out and I had it installed all within an hour and half. They told me they had a bad batch and I had received one. I know I could have had etrailer replace it, but my trailer was up on jacks and didn’t want to wait for the replacement. It all worked out fine. Thanks

by:

Exactly what I needed. Brittney was very knowledgeable and helpful. it was a pleasure talking to someone that I could understand and knew what she was talking about!

by:

Replaced the drum brakes on my Heartland RV with HydrasStar disc brakes went on vacation out West for 4 weeks as we were coming off Teton Pass Informed Wife Best investment I have made on our rv.

by:

I have no issues with the Hydra Star. The system works flawlessly, but the reservoir could use a sight gage.
The only issue was the packaging/shipping. I initially received shortages after two shipments, and then duplicate parts upon receiving the aforementioned parts shortage. Also, the initial shipment included calipers with two different styles of pads.

by:

Third trip with trailer all 16 studs on right side sheared off lost both wheels, studs in the hubs are garbage, got no reply from etrailer regarding replacing damaged rotor, Chinese junk
