Hooking up on a sloped driveway or campsite doesn’t have to be a hassle. The etrailer XHD’s self-supporting, telescoping arms hold their own weight so you can connect one side at a time without the bar dropping to the ground. Once you pull forward, the arms automatically lock into towing position. When it’s time to disconnect, non-binding trigger latches release tension with a quick squeeze—even if you’re parked on uneven ground.
With a 10,500-lb weight rating and a solid steel body, this tow bar is built to handle some serious weight. It’s sturdy yet thoughtfully designed, with self-aligning arms that extend from 39-1/4" to 51-3/4" so you can line things up without wrestling. Safe towing depends on a level connection. The built-in 1-1/2" rise/drop and a head that tilts 3" up or down help you keep the bar within the recommended 3" of level—without extra adapters. That means a cleaner setup, less stress on both vehicles, and smoother tracking behind your RV on long trips.
The straight, vinyl-coated safety cables are built right into the bar and rated at 14,000 lbs. They stay up off the ground and out of the way, so there’s no dragging or tangling. A storage rod keeps your coiled electrical cord (sold separately) tidy and elevated. It’s an organized, streamlined setup that’s ready to roll every time.
When you’re done towing, you don’t have to lift the heavy arms straight up. The etrailer XHD stores easily by swinging the arms to either side—left, right, or one each way. They lock in place automatically when lowered, keeping the back of your RV neat and ready for the next trip.
Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.
To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Everything was as ordered. Quality was very good.
Painted parts have peeled away, and the polished shafts have rusted and corroded superficially.
I like that the arms don't drop to the ground and are very easy for me to connect to my tow vehicle by myself.

Did not arrive despite being listed on shipping label. Danielle learned it would be in stock and shipped Monday and promised to upgrade and have it shipped 2 day so that it would arrive in time for me to leave WA and travel east to pickup our new motor home.

Great customer service. Awesome tow bar. Had one little clip missing but they shipped me the missing part without question the same day I called.
Was simple to install. The only hard part was installing the backing nut with the wire handle. That could be done different.
The non-binding does not work. Sometimes one releases but usually both are bound to the point that we have to move the truck enough to release them.

Used etrailer on previous truck and great support and vidieos fairly easy to install and if you have questions you can call and they will walk you through.
It is so convenient to have the safety cables and wiring plug attached to the towbar. I have had no problems getting hooked up or unhooked. Very pleased with this towbar.
XHD is a great product! Pulling a 2019 Ram 1500 easily, I connect up in driveway, although not perfectly flat. Capacity is great, we can carry bikes and other supplies in truck. It takes longer to get truck into neutral than to connect up to rv. etrailer staff super helpful to get what you need, just ask.
The tow bar works well. I am not a fan of the way it stows. The Blue Ox tow bars swing to one side or even stand up so they can be covered, but this one has one arm sticking out each direction and is harder to cover.
The eTrailer HXD tow bar is an excellent choice! I generally spend less than 5 mins hooking up or unhooking from my 2020 Ram Rebel with baseplates installed. Highly recommend this setup for flat towing.
It’s tough, reliable, quick to connect- only 3 issues:
1. Because it’s tough, VERY heavy, awkward to install and uninstall, much less store…if there was a way to more easily collapse, break it down into more easily compact size…
2. Safety cables sometimes bind and easily corrode, and the spring loaded snaps at the ends are unusually and annoyingly hard to open… And on more than a few occasions snapped causing much pain to one’s fingers and thumbs
3. There is a frequent clicking sound as though the hitch has suddenly shifted slightly (1/2-1”?) somehow when rounding a corner or merely driving along. This despite all connections double checked for proper hookups.

This towbar worked perfectly and was easy to install. It is better quality than the one I had, which had a lower weight rating. ETrailer has great customer service. Definitely a good place for your RV/Trailer/Towing needs.
This is a heavy piece but it works well and has been easy to use. Overall I like it but it is pretty heavy if you are removing/installing it on a regular basis.
First, this bar is extremely heavy, which makes transporting and maneuvering cumbersome and difficult. Secondly, I had issues with this unit from the get-go. I did not receive the correct bolts to attach the Roadmaster clevis to the arm ends. The instructions clearly state that a clevis bolt was to be installed with the XHD unit, but it was not in the hardware bag. I had to call customer service (which was so/so, almost like the person didn't believe me) and had the bolts sent to me. I received the bolts but long story short, they were too short. They did not come out of the bottom of the locknut and any attempt to torque them to the point they did protrude, caused the forks of the clevis to bend, which is too much stress on such an important piece. I did not feel it was safe to either have the bolts not protrude, or force them to protrude. Then came the days-long process of trying to rectify the situation. I called customer service and attempted to explain the problem to the rep. She didn't really want to hear my problem and I was quickly rushed off the phone and directed to call Roadmaster for support, which I did. Roadmaster, of course, has nothing to do with this bar, or problem (pictures were sent to RM) and I was directed to call eTrailer back. I spoke to another person and she was a little more helpful. However, during our "conversation," I could hardly get a word in (I was spoken over and interrupted constantly.) I was told that #1.) the first person I talked to had no idea what she was talking about #2.) Demco manufactures these parts, not Roadmaster, #3.) Essentially the correct length bolts don't exist in the parts catalog. At this point I am starting to get upset with my experience and just wanted a tow bar that worked. I was convinced to but a Roadmaster branded tow bar to avoid any more issues (Blackhawk All Terrain) which I found to be strange, I figured the margin on the eTrailer branded products would be higher, but I digress. Since there is no exchange program with eTrailer, I had to purchase the Blackhawk outright. I was given a UPS label to send the XHD back, but I had to wait to receive the Blackhawk to reuse the box, which is not a huge deal, a minor inconvenience at this point. As of today (4/26/24) I am still waiting for a refund on this unit which I was assured it would be on it's way once the tracking number showed that it was picked up by UPS, but this is not the case. In conclusion, the XHD seemed like it would be a decent product if they can get the hardware right (at least for the Roadmaster system) it's just heavier than most tow bars I have had experience with. eTrailer.com customer service can also use some work, I was not happy with the service after the sale I received. Oh, and the final kick in the tail, the Blackhawk does not come with safety cables. If this were my company, I would have thrown those in for the inconvenience, but I was offered nothing for the trouble this has caused, no discount on the Blackhawk, cables or anything. I will do all I can to avoid buying from etrailer again and will direct others to the same.
