  • Simple phone control: Bluetooth connection and OneControl app manage braking and manual override.

Features to know about

Keeps Your Dash Clean: Compact Under-Dash Mount

Most brake controllers clutter up the cab or get in the way, but this one hides completely under the dash. The main box is only 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick and mounts out of sight with an adhesive pad or zip ties. You don’t lose knee room or hit anything when getting in and out. Once it’s tucked away, the Bluetooth connection links right to your phone — no knobs or screens needed in the cockpit.

Controls Everything from Your Phone: Bluetooth OneControl App

Instead of reaching for a bulky controller, you set and monitor everything from your smartphone. The OneControl app connects by Bluetooth and lets you adjust max output, fine-tune sensitivity, and hit manual override with a single touch. You can save multiple trailer profiles, so if you tow different rigs, your settings are already dialed in. The brake output indicator shows how much power you’re sending to the trailer brakes, keeping you aware of every move right from your screen.

Delivers Smooth, Confident Stops: Proportional Brake Control

Proportional braking means your trailer responds exactly like your vehicle. The built-in 3-axis accelerometer senses how fast you slow down and applies equal braking force to the trailer. If you brake gently, the trailer eases in; if you stop hard, it matches your intensity. It works with 1 to 4 axles and supports electric trailer brakes for steady, predictable stops every time.

Installs Fast with Plug-and-Play Harness: No Splicing Needed

Hookup takes just a few minutes thanks to the custom harness that plugs directly into your factory brake controller port. No cutting or hardwiring — just connect both ends and pair it to your phone in about five seconds. The LED on the unit shows you status and troubleshooting codes so setup is clear and quick. Once paired and calibrated, you’re ready to tow.

Built for Safety and Flexibility: Smart Protection Features

The Echo under-dash controller includes built-in reverse polarity and short-circuit protection for safe operation. If Bluetooth ever disconnects, it keeps working using your last saved settings. With its compact hidden design, wireless control, and proportional response, it’s a simple way to add modern braking control without changing how your truck’s interior looks or feels.

Specs

Application

  • Application: trailers with 1 to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies)
  • Compatible with: electric trailer brakes

Dimensions

  • Main unit dimensions: 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick

Smart Device Requirements

  • Apple: 5.0 and newer
  • Android: 4.3 and newer

Screenshot of Curt Echo OneControl app interface showing manual override button, brake output indicator, max output, sensitivity level, and hazard light controls for Bluetooth trailer brake controller.

  • Manual Override: This big orange button in the middle of the app is your manual override. Press and hold the button, and the brake controller will smoothly apply the trailer brakes without applying your vehicle’s brakes.
  • Brake Output Indicator: The outer ring gives you a visual indicator of how much power is being applied to the trailer brakes. This is determined by your max output setting.
  • Max Output: Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer’s brakes.
  • Sensitivity Level: This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer’s braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the max output level.
  • Vehicle Hazard Lights: If you turn on your vehicle’s hazard lights, there’s a chance the trailer brakes will pulse on and off as the lights flash. Turn this setting on any time you activate your hazard lights to prevent this problem.

Warranty

  • Brake controller: Limited lifetime
  • Wiring harness: Limited 1-year

Note

  • Bluetooth connection: If Bluetooth connection is lost, the brake controller will continue to function safely, using the most recently programmed settings. This brake controller is not compatible, but will not interfere, with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • 7-way plug: If you don’t already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle, take a look at our exclusive 7- and 4-way brake controller installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately).

What is Proportional Braking?

Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

Towing? There's an app for that. This brake controller connects to your phone with Bluetooth so all your settings are right in your hand. The plug-and-play unit mounts under your dashboard, out of sight and out of your way.

by: Michael 09/30/2022

Easy to install once you dig out its connector from under the dash. H Ave the unit completely hidden.

by: Todd03/13/2024

The product was exactly what was required for the job. Was disappointed in shipping since I paid extra for expedited shipping and it arrived a day later than expected. I could have got it in the same time frame and saved $XX.00.

by: Tony 01/19/2023

The brake controller video was very helpful. I made my choice, ordered it and received free of confusion. Thanks go to etrailer.

by: John 01/26/2022

Installed the controller under the dash out of the way. Downloading and setting up the app was easy. I have set a profile for my trailer loaded and empty. This is a nice feature.
The app stays open while driving, so the manual brake button is visible, and easy to access, if needed.

by: David04/17/2024

The Curt Echo is now on my Nissan Armada and works perfectly. It was an easy hookup with the supplied harness and does its job.

by: Michael06/26/2025

Don’t even know it’s there, set it and forget it.

by: John08/23/2022

This is the old obsolete model of Curt Echo which has to be installed under the dashboard. The newer version, which attaches to the electrical system in the rear of the vehicle, is superior and now preferred by most trailer owners. The above version should be taken off the catalog.

by: JimB 08/26/2024

This is my first proportional brake controller. Stopping is much smoother without sacrificing safety. Communication by bluetooth makes for a clean installation.

by: Steve H.02/25/2022

This controller took me literally 15 minutes to install with the required pigtail and my Rubicon with factory towing package installed. When I initially downloaded the app and connected, it actuated and locked the brakes. I simple deleted the app and reinstalled and everything worked normal.

by: Chris10/03/2022

Was not aware this device draws on the battery constantly. I don't daily drive my truck and have had to replace the battery twice in one month due to being drained below the point where they could be recharged. $[XX] later and this controller removed, I've not had any problems with the battery

by: Scott09/18/2022

This brake controller has to be unplugged when not in use or it drains the battery in a few days. I had to have a electrical test done in my vehicle ($XXX). The etrailer tech said the test was done incorrectly. The Chevy dealer claims it was accurate. I’m left with a problem.

by: Earl 08/21/2023

Needed a brake controller I could rely on because I was pulling my camper to a site at the top of a 25% grade within a few days. Unit plugged right into the harness for the factory brake controller (with the adapter cable) on my 2014 Ford F-150,and worked perfectly. Bluetooth connectivity works through the app (rather than through the phone's "settings" icon),and connects instantly. I'm very pleased with this product.

by: Patrick03/28/2022

As first time truck and pop-up trailer users, we initially purchased a cheaper brake controller that required drilling the dash. This is a new truck, so we decided to switch and spend more for the Bluetooth. etrailer was easy to work with for a return, and the Bluetooth brake controller is fantastic - so easy to use with our new trailer!

by: Chris 08/20/2022

I really wanted a trailer brake controller that I didn’t have to stick an ugly knob/box hanging off my dash. This was my solution and it works perfectly. Plugged right into my Honda Ridgeline existing plug, and easily connected to the app on my phone. Nice setup.

by: Paul08/29/2022

I was looking for a trailer brake controller that did not require a permanent mounting to the dash or center console of my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I initially considered the wireless bluetooth controller from Curt Echo that plugs directly into the 7-pin outlet next to the tow hitch. However, reviews from individuals that tow RV trailers identified that particular option prevents the 12v battery on the trailer from charging off of the TV while connected. This would limit the RV utilization during long trips involving boondocking.
The Curt Echo under-dash controller seems to solve that problem and uses the same user interface as the Curt Echo.
Easy to install and operate; problem solved!

by: Michael 04/05/2023

Easiest install ever !
Plug and play.
App is easy understand and use.
My favorite is with the app and on selected active profile you can see the amount of brake amount is being applied to the trailer when the vehicle brakes are applied. I also install the manual override button. FYI: you don’t need the app on your phone open for the controller or the manual override button to work. Also another nice feature of the manual override button is the size about the size of a quarter, uses a CR2032 battery and the battery level is displayed in the app.

by: James 12/19/2023

This was relatively easy to install under the dash of our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially since ours has the factory Trailer Tow Package and therefore an existing pigtail connector ready to connect to the brake controller. The Curt wiring adapter made it super easy to connect the Brake Controller to the vehicle's wiring harness. The controller was easy to calibrate and worked seamlessly while we're towing a rented trailer. We used a dedicated (older) cell phone to operate it while we're towing to avoid any potential interference from other apps rather than using our regular phone on which we receive phone calls texts, etc. This was our first time towing a trailer and this easy-to-use Brake Controller helped make us feel safe and comfortable. Highly recommended.

by: Barry12/02/2022

This brake controller works perfectly for my 2014 Audi Q7! The instructions were easy to follow thereby making the installation a straightforward process. The hardest part was deciding where to install the dial. The dial has a solid and deliberate feel when turning and numerous options for fine tuning.

by: Finger lakes trailer guy.06/27/2025

Worked with 2024 Audi perfectly! Perfect plug and play!

by: Alan03/12/2024

Do not buy either the Curt Under-Dash or plug-in Wireless brake controllers until Lippert fixes the phone app. I’ve used both happily with the old ECHO Smart Control app. I could use the remote manual button with the phone app not even running. As one would reasonably expect the button talked to the controller directly via Bluetooth. The new OneControl Auto app must be running and in the foreground to use the manual remote! And the most recent version of ECHO Smart Control is non-functional, it just tells you to install OneControl Auto.

by: Matthew 11/25/2023

The break controller worked seamlessly. Profiles are easy to set up and it has very reliable Bluetooth connectivity with my phone. Installation was really easy on my Honda Pilot!

by: John04/28/2026

Worked perfectly

by: William03/30/2020

This made for an easy plug and play installation—and even included instructions for removal is the lower dash trim panel in my Audi.

by: Jory05/30/2025

Installation instructions were not at all helpful. I don't know what they were for but they were not for a 2014 VW Touareg TDI. The cable worked but I had to read several posts on the TDI forum and watch several YouTube videos to figure out where the OEM plug was under the dash. Bottom line: you have to remove the fuse block and everything below the steering wheel and put your entire arm up underneath the dash to feel for a foam covered plug. You cannot see it, but it's there.

by: Troy07/19/2026

The instructions were clear and the cable fit perfectly in my 2019 Q7, even though the website said it would not fit. Which is a good thing because my local Audi dealership said they didn't know how when I asked them to install the brake controller. So I went home and did it myself.

We had the chance to install a brake controller in a similar Ranger as your 2021 model and when using standard brake controller wiring like with the # C51515 to install the Curt Echo Mobile # C27JR the yellow/orange goes to the black wire, the blue wire is going to go to the blue wire, the white wire is going to go to the white wire, and the violet with white stripe goes to the red wire.

This kit contains everything you need to upgrade the 4-flat to a 7-way, including all of the necessary wires for a brake controller. • Which Connector Is Needed To Install Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller On a 2018 VW Atlas?
Both the kits come with the same Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller # C51170 for your 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. The Universal Wiring Adapter # C51515 is needed if your Atlas does not have the factory brake controller wiring. While the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter # C51522 is designed to plug into the factory trailer wiring connector. If you have the factory connector with a factory 7-way the connector should be behind the left kick panel in the drivers compartment. If you do not have a...

  • Comparing the Curt Spectrum Brake Controller and Redarc Tow-Pro Elite for a 2016 Audi Q5
Both the Curt Spectrum # C51170 and the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR are excellent brake controller options for your 2016 Audi Q5 but in comparison I recommend going with the Tow-Pro Elite over the Spectrum. Although both controllers can be used as proportional brake controllers (they activate your trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as the brakes on your Q5) the Tow-Pro Elite can also be switched to "User Control" mode which means your trailer brakes will activate...

  • Will The Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller Plug and Play In 2010 VW Touareg?
That is a great question Andy and I can understand your confusion as we do have the Technical Bulletin which I have linked near the bottom of the page next to the instructions. You will be able to connect the Curt Spectrum # C51170 to your 2010 Volkswagen Touareg using the Pigtail # C51522. There is a chance you will have to add a relay to get a more consistent power to the controller which is outlined in the Technical Bulletin but you will not need the parts outlined in the beginning of...

  • Correct Curt Brake Controller Adapter Harness Plug for 2019 Volkswagen Atlas
I checked with Curt and the correct brake controller wiring harness adapter needed to install a Curt trailer brake controller like the Curt Echo Under-Dash Trailer Brake Controller part # C27JR which is what I recommend on a 2019 Volkswagen Atlas is the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers part # C51522.

  • Easy to Install Brake Controller for 2014 Audi Q7
I have a really easy to install brake controller for your 2014 Audi Q7 that works great and is super convenient but the only way to install a Redarc Tow Pro part # RED44FR is going to be by hardwiring the install. Instead check out the Echo Mobile part # C51180. Basically this just plugs into an active 7-way and once you sync it to your phone it's ready to go. This brake controller is proportional which means it senses the amount of deceleration your tow vehicle is applying and applies...

  • Trailer Brake Controller For A 2013 Volswagen Touareg
With the plug and play harnesses available for most controllers for your 2013 Volkswagen Touareg The Red Arc Controller # RED24FR does not have a plug and play installation for your 2013 Volkswagen Touareg. The Red Arc Controller uses the Harness # RED69FR which plugs into the back of the controller but comes with 4 additional wires that you will have to splice into your vehicle. A way around the non plug and play method would be to splice the Redarc harness into a plug-in harness like...

  • Comparing With Or Without Tow Package On A 2017 Volkswagen Touareg
I can help point you in the right direction for sure. The "with or without tow package" will determine what plug or "pigtail" comes with the brake controller. On the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg, vehicles with the factory tow package will have a 7 way trailer plug on the back, and will be equipped with a factory brake control port under the dash. If you do have the tow package you can use the plug and play pigtail # C51522 to easily install the Curt Assure # C49UR. If you do not have the tow...

  • Plug-In Brake Controller Adapter for a 2018 Audi Q5
I do have a really great alternative brake controller solution for your 2018 Audi Q5 but none of the top brake controller manufactures offers a plug-in brake controller adapter harness like the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers part # C51522 for this vehicle yet. Therefore, you have two options which are to hardwire your own harness in or use a wireless brake controller. If you wish to hardwire your own harness in then you will need to cut the factory plug off the...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Brake Controller for 2015 Audi Q7
It looks like you have really done your research on this, great job! For a hitch you are correct, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13220 is a confirmed fit for your 2015 Audi Q7. This Class III hitch has a 2" receiver and a concealed cross tube to help maintain a factory look. It has a maximum gross trailer weight of 6,000 lbs and tongue weight of 600 lbs. Make sure to consult your owner's manual for the towing capacity of your vehicle as well, you will be limited by whichever is lower. For...

  • Recommended Trailer Brake Controller for 2016 Audi Q5 TDI
If they installed the OEM tow package wiring in your 2016 Qudi Q5 TDI, then there should be the connection under your dash for the wiring harness to be a simple plug and play. The Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers # C51522 will have the plug for the factory harness and then you can use the Curt Spectrum # C51170. This proportional controller will have a much cleaner look on your dash so it is what I recommend if you have the plug in harness. If you don't have the...

  • Will the Curt Echo Work on a 2016 Audi Q5 with the 7 Way Plug Angled Down Slightly
To start, the Curt Echo # C51180 will work when the 7 way plug in bracket is angled down; this doesn't affect the functionality of the controller and you'll still get responsive braking for your trailer. Part of the appeal of using a wireless controller like the Curt Echo # C51180 is that there isn't any wiring that needs to be done inside the vehicle and it's a simple plug and play installation. The issue with needing a brake controller for vehicles that aren't typically setup for towing...

  • Will Factory Tow Settings Activate on 2015 Audi Q5 With Curt Echo
I believe you're asking if the trailer/towing mode will still activate if you use the # C51180 instead of plugging a brake controller into the port under your dash. Yes, this will still work on your 2015 Audi Q5. Since the Echo plugs in-line with the 7-way it will be no different from hooking up a trailer. The different settings will come from it detecting a connection on your 7-way, not the port under the dash. However, you may want to consider a different model of the Echo, especially...

You are correct that Tekonsha does not currently have a plug-in wiring harness available for your 2017 Audi Q5 but you're also right that you can simply cut off the brake controller end of the Curt # C51522 and hardwire it to the pigtail on your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 for installation. You will then still be able to use the vehicle-side plug to connect to the factory port behind the dash of your Audi Q5. After cutting off the controller-side plug on the harness the wires will splice...

Actually there is an adapter from Curt # C51522 that you can use to plug the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 directly into your 2011 Audi Q7 if it has the factory 7-Way. You will need to cut the one end off of the adapter and splice the pigtail that comes with the P3 to the adapter (per color) for this to work. If you don't have the factory 7-Way then you will need to run to your local dealer to get parts #1J0-972-782 and #000-979-228 to basically make an adapter (see attached article). I...
