Video Transcript for JR Products Compact Low Pressure 2-Stage Automatic Changeover RV LP Gas Regulator Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be checking out this automatic changeover regulator from JR Products. What this is going to do is it's going to help you, obviously, regulate the propane in your rig, but it's automatically going to switch over when one tanks down. So right now, the lever's pointed to this tank. When this one reaches its end, it's automatically going to switch over to this one. That way when you come back out here next time, you'll switch a lever over to primarily focus on this one and you can replace this one without worrying about any gas escaping or anything like that but continue to have propane.

Let's check it out.A way it helps you figure out which tank is empty is this gauge here. I'm going to open up this propane and you'll see the gauge will turn to green. Now you know that this one has propane it. So it sensing that it has propane. It's going to be fine.

There's no reason to change the readout. Now, if I flip it over to this one, you're going to watch it slowly switch over and realize there's no propane in this one because I have the valve shut off. With that in mind, just because it's red doesn't mean both tanks are drained. You'll want to switch it over to the other one, you see green and knows this one's full and you're still good to go and you can replace this one now. Now, we worked with two different regulators today. Both of these are from JR Products, but the only difference is this one's a little bit bigger and has extra screw holes.

Otherwise, it's the same thing. Functions the exact same way. You just want to go with the bigger one if you have more appliances that are drawing propane off of it. So like I said, you got way more stuff running off it, you're going to need a bigger regulator to regulate the propane. It's going to help you out with both of your tanks just the same.

Chances are if you're checking this out, it's time to replace your old one. Here's the old one here. We went ahead and removed that, and you needed to do that every 10 years. They recommend it because it's got a rubber diaphragm on the inside that eventually wears out, then you're going to get less pressure. Now, that goes the same with your propane tanks. So if you do them at the same time, that'll work out. If you don't replace your propane tanks and you just get them refilled, up to 10 years it's time to get them reinspected to make sure they're still okay to use. You'll have to take them to a propane place to get them inspected and approved to use.Another thing to think about when you're going to replace your regulator is the hoses that go with it. You want to make sure you get the right ones that have the right connections. We have the inverted connector here. You can see it's smaller than the outside grip, and then we have the NPT connection and you can see that that threaded part matches the outside grip. So that's an easier way to tell just by looking at it and going, "Oh, okay. The bigger one that comes all the way out to the end, that's the NPT, and this is going to be the inverted." If you look at our regulator, it uses the inverted. So you can just come in here and screw it in that way. If we we're going to try and use the NPT, clearly too big. It's not going to thread in there. Looking at the outlet down here, this is going to be sized at 3/8" and it has an FPT connection. So another thing about when going with the lines you're going to be running to it, make sure that matches up with the one that goes to your rig. It's pretty straight forward. That's how the regular works and how you would replace it. But how does it install It was pretty easy. So let's check out how we did it. This is what it's going to look like when you get it. Now, we added a bracket to our regulator that JR Products also offers that's on our website, because the old bracket wouldn't work with our new regulator. It didn't had four screws in it, and the screw spacings didn't match up with this one. This one's an inch apart. So that's something else to look at when you're going to get your replacement. Make sure the bracket matches so you can attach it, that way you can attach it over there too.So first off, I put one screw in there already. Going to simply put the second one in. That way we attach the regulator to the bracket. I'll show you the back of the regulator here in a second. You can see it's got the spaces there where the screws go in. So it's as easy as lining the bracket up and screwing it in. We're going to attach our output hose to the bottom here, the regulator. It's easier to do that before you install the regulator because you can easily just spin it like that and attach that bottom hose. Get it nice and tight. Looks good. Now you can go ahead and set the bracket down on top, because there is a hole just for it and then we'll add our wing nut to hold it in place. Again, want to get it nice and tight. Just going to push down on this bracket and this bracket keeping everything in place. Now we're going to add our other hose. It's easier to screw in this side, which would be our inverted side first, and then attach this side to the propane tank. You're all set. It really is that simple. It installed very easily. It works great. I like that I can switch over to this tank if I need to, but I don't have to. If this tank runs out, it's automatically going to come over here while I'm inside. I don't have to leave the camper if it's cold. I really like that. It makes it easier, and I know I'm covered for the next 10 years. That does it for our look at this regulator. Hope this helped.

Arrived damaged. switch was broken off. Packaging was intact so I think e-trailer received it in a damaged condition.
Can't rate the product until it is replaced and installed. I returned the damaged regulator to you by UPS, but before it could have arrived at your shop, George J. from e-trailer had already shipped a replacement to me and it arrived yesterday. In addition to George's concern over my shipment, I heard from others on your staff including Mike B. and Kailey I. You folks go the extra mile to satisfy your customers. I would rate your customer service at 5 stars for sure.

I installed this in my 1999 E350 ambulance-to-camper conversion last year. I mounted two #30 tanks in what used to be the oxygen compartment. It works very smoothly and quietly even with the water heater, fridge and stove on, with no humming or chattering.

by:

One side stopped working efficiently. Reads low when one tank is at least half way full still, half a tank is weeks (multiple) worth of propane for me. Now instead of auto change over I have to use only one side to use all available propane. I will be replacing this unit soon, which is a bit disappointing after a year.

by:

It works as expected. I’m using this somewhat unconventionally as I have two propane tanks hooked to my BBQ. I was tired of running out of gas during grilling so I bought another brand of regulator but my wife accidentally broke the changeover switch. This model seems slightly more robust and the switchover indicator is much easier to see/read. Gas output is good even on reserve.

by:

The regulator was as described. However, it did not include the mounting bracket. When I call Etrailer I was told it did not say it was included. It also did NOT say it was not included.
I was told the bracket was shown on the very bottom of the page.
How many people would think to look further? It should state that the bracket is not included in the description.

Ordered unit in January. Gauge started malfunctioning in June. Whole unit failed in September and now leaks at valve switch. Contacted the manufacturer and they said their warranty was only to the reseller not for the customer. Unit was great when it worked but 6 months lifespan is rediculus. Not being warrenties is worse.

by:

This is my third order from etrailer and each order has been great from trailer hitches, balls, special hitch parts and finally propane parts to repair my set up at home for fire place logs. You can’t miss with these folks

by:

If you don’t have two propane tanks connected, it will leak from one side.

Comments
I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and they have said that there are the brass check valves that should stop any leakage. If the check valve was removed from the connection it could leak. It could be a possibility that the inlet valve was removed when taking off the hoses. We do sell replacements for that inlet valve, please check out part # 37207-30045

The product is great and due to a recent shortage of what I needed the team worked with me and kept me updated on the order status as info became available. Great place for parts and I will be a repeat customer.

by:

After waiting months ( not the fault of e-trailer), I finally received the regulator. During this supply chain delay, Amy at e-trailer kept me fully informed as to the status of my order. I can't review the regulator yet but I do give e-trailer 5 stars for customer service.

by:

Looks good it should be a good replacement for the factory recalled unit.

by:

Perfect replacement for a different regulator that was on recall.

by:

Supply chain issues as we are all facing caused a delay in delivery, however they keep me updated me and that was great. The Regulator came with great info and was easy to install

by:

A great replacement valve for our travel trailer.

by:

It works as stated. You do have to check it daily to see if you have an empty tank. But it changes over without any hesitation.

by:

I've been very pleased with the performance this valve!

by:

The few times I have been able to use it; it has worked fine. Alas, due to
COVID and parks being closed; I have not been able to travel as I usually do.

by:

Took a great long while though through no fault of your own. We appreciate the updates. It has been a trying time for all. Thank you for your service.

by:

This crossover compact two stage regulator is of high quality in my opinion. From its quality finish ,,out of the box performance, And ease of mounting makes the perfect choice for my travel trailer.
The staff at etrailer were helpful in letting me return my first choice” Single input low pressure two stage regulator“, which failed to perform out of the box.
I am a senior, retired school bus driver/tow truck Owner operator, And my family and I have a Lotta trucks, ATVs, trailers etc. We will continue to do business with etrailer.com

I have never had to replace a propane regulator on any of my RV's. Never gave it a second thought. My 4 year old regulator bit the dust so had to replace. I didn't realize different brands have different "RATE FLOWS". Maybe cuzz my original was defective. Maybe "CHEAP" (like a lot of items on RV's) but this new one sure made a difference. Example: Since I bought the rig (4yrs. old) the stove has never looked or worked correctly. The flame looked low and not a good blue color like I thought it should be. It's a very nice flame now! Wow,,,I'm totally impressed! One of those things you just tolerate and don't think about till it's working correctly!!! The one I bought is rated for more BTUs than I need on primary side, 262.5K and the secondary is rated at 210K. Works great so far! Very pleased!

  • Will JR Product LP Gas Regulator # 37207-31525 Work on 2005 Forest River Silver Back
The JR Products Compact Low Pressure 2-Stage Automatic Changeover # 37207-31525 that you referenced is exactly what you need as a regulator for your RV that has two tanks. This regulator uses the standard 11 inch water column pressure rating that your RV has and has ability to automatically change between your two tanks so that you don't have to worry about that. There's no need to consider the BTU rating of this as that's not how these are rated typically. It all comes down to the water...

I wasn't able to find the exact Btu requirement for this model but the DuroMax XP12000EH Generator only requires 178,500 Btu's so I know you will be covered.

  • Will 2-Stage Automatic Changeover Propane Regulator Emit Propane Smell
I'm glad you asked, because there should not be an odor of propane coming from anywhere, including the vent, of your automatic changeover propane regulator. You are correct that a regulator should absolutely last longer than just a couple years (most are meant to be replaced approximately 15 years) but on occasion they do go bad, which is what happened with yours and why it is emitting the odor of gas. So you will definitely want to replace yours with the Compact Low Pressure 2-Stage...

  • Troubleshooting Clear Oil Clogging A 2-Stage RV Regulator
The clear oil is an additive in the storage tanks that gives propane the Sulphur smell and condenses inside the regulator causing a clog. You'll need to perform a test on the system to ensure the regulator is supplying 11" WC pressure. If not you'll need to replace your regulator. If you send me a picture of yours I can recommend the correct one for your RV. You can also add in a drip leg that will catch the oil and can be manually drained instead of it clogging your regulator.
