If you were to remove the surge brake actuator from your trailer then there wouldn't be any pressure to your hydraulic brakes which means your brakes simply won't activate at all. I recommend installing a reverse lockout solenoid like the Titan # TK71-755-00 or the Demco # DM5404 because it ties in to the reverse light function on your tow vehicle and essentially prevents your actuator from applying pressure to your hydraulic brakes.

Keep in mind that you'll need to install a 5-Way flat on both your vehicle and trailer with the kit # HM47890 so that you're trailer can receive the reverse light signal.
