How to Determine the Correct Replacement Brake Assembly Size for a 6,000-lb Axle

Hello etrailer. I have an older single axle heavy duty boat trailer I believe the Axle is 6,000lbs, with drum brakes, using a DICO trailer brake actuator. I recently replaced the bearing and races, and noticed that there doesnt appear to be any wear on the brake pads. I only notice the brakes engaging while backing slightly up angle the trailer into my storage unit. I also believe I need a reverse electric lockout . I see rust/corrosion build up on the springs of my brake plate assembly. How can I determine the actual size of this assembly?

You can determine what the correct replacement brake assembly is by measuring the diameter of the brake assembly. This is measured from one brake pad directly across to the other brake pad. This is demonstrated at the 2:05 mark of the attached review video for our Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA that should be what you are needing for your application. This kit measures 12" x 2" and is compatible with 5.2K to 7K axles. This kit also comes with both the right and left hand assemblies.
If you would like to add an electric reverse lockout to your actuator we do have some options. The Demco Solenoid Kit # DM5404 uses the bypass feature so that the pressure always stays the same. This was designed for use with specific Demco actuators, but a lot of solenoids are the same so you may be able to use it with your actuator. Keep in mind that unless you have a Demco DA10 # DM8101222, DA20 # DM8202222, or DA91 # DM8669112 actuator it may not be compatible.
