Question:
I just purchased a Shorlandr boat trailer. When backing up the trailer brakes lock up. Ive checked the coupling and wiring. It appears to be ok. However, when I put the truck in reverse I can hear the solenoid click, but the brakes still lock up. Can the solenoid be defective?

It is very possible the solenoid is defective. Since you hear it click when put in reverse we know it's getting voltage like it needs. You first might try improving the ground of the solenoid though. It's possible it's just not grounding properly to allow it to fully operate.
If you have a Titan actuator you would want part # T4748800, or a Demco part # DM5404 for a replacement if you determine you the ground is good. If you have a different brand let me know.
