Our wiring is custom, which means it's going to be made particular to your vehicle, and the connection points are going to connect behind the taillights here. It's also going to have a converter box with diodes in it that are going to protect our vehicle's electrical system from any feedback or anything that may go wrong on the RV end. Now, when we're not flat towing our Jeep, our Jeeps light's are going to work just like normal and they're not going to be affected at all.

Jeep Wrangler Tow Bar Wiring Questions and Answers

  • Wiring to Flat Tow a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Behind a Motorhome
  • Magnetic tow lights, like part # TL21RK, do their job just fine, are less expensive, and don't require much to setup so they're not a bad option by any means. The only real drawbacks to them is that you need to set them up or take them off each time you change from towing to driving the Jeep. They also have a chance of scratching the Jeep's paint since they're being attached to its surface each time. We often recommend them if you're not going to be towing the vehicle very often or if...

  • Best Wiring/Lighting Solution for Flat Towing 2019 Jeep Wrangler
  • The two best options for tow bar wiring for use when flat towing your 2019 Jeep Wrangler really depend on how often you'll be towing the vehicle. We have magnetic kits like the Optronics kit part # TL21RK which are super simple to use as you basically just plug it in to the tow vehicle trailer wiring, set the lights on the rear of the vehicle where they'll be easily visible, and you're ready to go. This is a great solution for if you don't plan to tow all that often. A more permanent...

  • The Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit, part # RM-15267, is the best option for you to use to flat tow your 2017 Jeep Wrangler. It will provide a 6-Way wiring harness to the front of your Wrangler that you can connect to the 7-Way on your RV with the included Flexo-Coil cord. If your Wrangler has separate lighting you will need to use a wiring converter, part # 118158, along with 2 additional diodes, part # RM-792, to keep your turn and brake signals separate. If...

  • Roadmaster Diode Kit Compatibility with LED Tail Light Conversion
  • The Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154 will not be effected by changing your tail lights to LEDs. You may want to note that some LED systems will hyperflash when converting from incandescent bulbs because the power draw is so much less. If your new lights have this issue, then I recommend getting the Putco LED Light Bulb Load-Resistors - Aluminum - Qty 2 # P230004A-2 which will solve that issue.

  • In order to install the Blue Ox Tail Light Wiring Kit part # BX8869 in the back of the taillight housing on your 2017 Jeep Wrangler you will need at least 1" of space in order for the bulb and socket kit to work. • Is Brake Light Relay Needed for 2017 Jeep Wrangler Flat-Towed with Hopkins Harness HM56200
  • Yes, you will need a brake light relay # RM-88400 when using your Brake Buddy Classic with the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit # HM56200. You need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed car always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.

  • The Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit # HM56200 will not activate the 3rd tail light on your 2017 Jeep Wrangler because it is created to keep from backfeeding into the wiring on your Wrangler. This is the same case for your license plate light. Having the 3rd brake light and/or the license plate light is not mandatory when flat towing. This wiring harness has diodes to prevent back-feeding built in but if you wanted to install more we offer # RM-790 or # RM-690. To wire up the 4-way, that...

  • Flat Tow Wiring Recommendation for 2014 Jeep Wrangler that has Trailer Wiring
  • It's not recommended to install trailer wiring and flat tow wiring that uses the same taillight harness T-connection. Since you have trailer wiring installed already what would work best is a diode kit which will give you the ability to activate the taillights with you tow vehicle and not interfere with the taillight wiring. For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to...

  • Recommended Tow-Bar Wiring Harness For 2014 Jeep Wrangler
  • The tow bar wiring I recommend for your 2014 Wrangler is the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit, part # HM56200. This system is not used with the 4-way connector you have on your Jeep for towing. Our installers have found that the trailer towing harness you have on your Jeep will need to be un-installed so that the flat-tow wiring harness can work properly. This kit plugs into the wiring behind the tail lights on your Jeep. You then just run the 4-way connector up to the front of...

  • Diode Tow Bar Lighting Kit Recommendation that Uses a 6-Way Connector Instead of 4-Way
  • Instead of getting the # RM-154 which comes with 4-way connectors you would instead want the part # RM-152 which does not come with a connector so that you can use the one that you like. You will also want the # BX88206 to connect this lighting solution to your tow vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

  • Recommended Flat Towing Diode Wiring Kit for 2014 Jeep Wrangler
  • The wiring/lighting kits that are specified for your Wrangler are shown on the linked page. These include easy-install magnetic light kits like # TL21RK and universal diode kits like # RM-154 and # RM-152, which is not the recommended kit but which would work. I suggest using the recommended kit # RM-154. The linked video illustrates the installation process in a 2014 Wrangler. Roadmaster Tow Bar Tail Light Wiring Kit # RM-155 is not recommended for your 2014 Jeep Wrangler. No incandescent...

  • 2013 Jeep Wrangler Turn Signals Stop Flashing When Being Flat Towed
  • The Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass # RM76511 is not vehicle-specific so it can work on a Wrangler but I do not believe that would be the solution to your issue. It sounds to me like you are in need of diodes; I looked up the harness you referred to and while it is similar to something like the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267, your harness did not seem to include diodes like the Roadmaster kit. What it sounds like is happening is there is electrical...

  • Can Hopkins Tow Bar Wiring be Teed in with Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler
  • I will be happy to help select a tow bar wiring harness for your 2013 Jeep Wrangler. As far as daisy chaining wiring harness together it seems to work with some vehicles and not others. I haven't heard of there being an issue on the Jeeps meaning you likely will not have an issue teeing in harness # HM56200 with your existing trailer wiring harness. As far as which wiring harness should be first in line I would have the regular trailer wiring first, then the tow bar wiring, and then...

You can refer to the linked article for broad background information on all toad lighting options. I also linked an article that covers all the essentials of flat towing a vehicle. What I most-often recommend is a set of magnetic towing lights such as # TL21RK or one of the other similar items shown on the linked page. These have powerful magnetic...

  • Tow Bar Lighting Recommendation for 2012 Jeep Wrangler
  • For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV. This will work great with your Blue Ox Patriot kit as well. I attached an install video as well.

  • Troubleshooting Hopkins Custom Wiring Harness for Towing a 2011 Jeep Wrangler
  • On your 2011 Jeep Wrangler, the battery needs to be disconnected for towing so there may be an internal issue with the wiring if you have not disconnected the battery. I recommend using the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle # RM-766 for this function. If your lights still don't work with the Jeep battery disconnected, then I recommend checking your Motorhome's wiring harness with a circuit tester like # PTW2993. If there is correct function on each...

You will not have a wire on your vehicle's tail light harness that carries only the brake signal. I have included a diagram that may be of help to you. • Best Flat Tow Wiring for a 2011 Jeep Wrangler
  • We do have the wiring you need to activate your 2011 Jeep Wrangler lights while it is being flat towed but the Hopkins part # HM42635 that you referenced is used when towing a trailer with your Jeep. You will need a different system for flat towing. I recommend using the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This is one of our most popular kits because it uses a 7-Way on the RV side of the coiled wire which is typically what you see at the back of an RV....
