You can adjust the output voltage with the slider located here just to the left of the LCD display. Higher number is more power. Lower number is less. Today on our 2016 GMC Sierra 1500, we're going to be installing Draw-Tite's I-Command Trailer Brake Controller, and with this we'll be using the plug-in wiring adapter. This is an entry-level, proportional trailer brake controller, and what that means is that there's an inertia sensor inside so when you hit your brakes in the vehicle, that inertia sensor's going to detect the vehicle stopping and proportionally apply the brakes on your trailer to help mimic that stopping motion. There are adjustments on top. The left is your gain, which adjusts the maximum output to your brakes. The higher the voltage here, the harder your brakes are going to be applied. The boost setting here on the right has four settings, from off to boost one, two, and three.

Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Today on our 2016 GMC Sierra 1500, we're going to be installing Tekonsha's Voyager Brake Controller. With this, we'll be using Tekonsha's plug-in wiring adapter. This trailer brake controller is going to be good for up to four axles and offers proportional braking. What this means is that there's an inertia sensor inside that will detect how quickly you're stopping in your tow vehicle. To properly apply the brakes on your trailer behind it, to match your towed vehicle. The sensor inside must be level. There's a level adjustment knob located here, on the left, and that adjusts your sensor, so that way the inertia sensor is applying the brakes appropriately.

Today on our 2016 GMC Sierra 1500, we're gonna be installing Tekonsha's Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, and with this we'll be using Tekonsha's plug-in wiring adapter. This is a premium trailer brake controller. It's gonna allow you to proportionally apply the brakes on your trailer depending on how quickly you're stopping here in the vehicle. It uses an inertia sensor inside, so the harder you stop inside, that inertia sensor detects it and applies the brakes appropriately to match that on your trailer.Your output can be adjusted here on the left, and you can select through various boost settings with the button on the top right. The boost settings are for adjusting for the weight of your trailer. If your trailer is a little bit less than the weight of your vehicle, you'll wanna use the boost one setting. If it's roughly the same weight as your vehicle, you use boost two.

Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Installation - 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Today on our 2016 GMC Sierra 1500, we're gonna be installing Tekonsha's Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller, and with this we'll be using Tekonsha's plug-in wiring adapter. This is a proportional trailer brake controller that works up to four axles. What's really nice about it being proportional is that the harder you brake here in the vehicle, the inertia sensor inside the brake controller's gonna detect that and appropriately apply the brakes on your trailer behind you to ensure that it's stopping the same as your vehicle. The output for the trailer brakes can be adjusted here, so if you need to fine tune it for your specific trailer, you can do that. There's a boost button located on the top on the right, and this is for the various boost settings that are available. There's off, one, two, and three.Boost setting one is for when you have a trailer that's slightly less than the weight of your vehicle. Boost two is for when you have a trailer that weighs roughly the same as your vehicle. And boost three is when you have a trailer that weighs more than your vehicle.

Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller Installation - 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Today on our 2016 GMC Sierra 1500, we're going to be installing Tekonsha's PowerTrac electronic trailer brake controller. With this we'll be using Tekonsha's plug in wiring adapter. This is an entry level, time delay, trailer brake controller. It's going to provide a trailer brake signal, back to the trailer brakes on your trailer, to allow them to stop. There is an adjustment knob here that will allow you to adjust how harsh the brakes apply, and you can see that here on the LED display if you push over the manual slider. You'll see with the manual slider all the way over, if I have it fully down, it's red, which is the most apply, and if I back it off, we go from orange to green, which is middle to no apply. The manual slider can also be used for a few scenarios, for example if you're stuck in traffic on a steep hill, you can push the slider over to apply the brakes on your trailer and hold it there, so the brakes on your vehicle aren't holding the weight of your trailer. Additionally you can use it for testing purposes, when testing out your seven volt connector, as well as for straightening out your trailer if it starts to sway when driving down the road.We begin our installation by plugging in our wiring adaptor.

Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

You've got two different settings that you can adjust: you have your gain and your sync.Your gain is your maximum output to your brakes, and we can see that here changing on our display if we have our brakes applied. And the sync adjusts that time-delay. If it feels like they're applying a little bit too late or a little too soon, you can adjust that with the sync here. The manual slider can also be used to hold your trailer brakes if you're sitting on a steep hill for a while. You could use it for testing purposes, as well as help bring your trailer back straight if it starts to sway when going down the road. We'll begin our installation by plugging in our wire adapter.

It's a newer technology available, and it really is just a lot better than what the time delayed systems used to be.Basically with a time delayed system, it was pre programmed when your brakes would engage. So you hit your brake in your vehicle, there might be a pause before the brakes on your trailer actually engage.

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Today on our 2015 GMC Sierra, we're going to be taking a look at and also showing you how to install the Hopkins InSIGHT. Its part number is HM47297. We're also going to be using part number HM53075, which is the Hopkins pigtail adapter. Now, the InSIGHT is a proportional brake controller, which essentially means that inside of the unit there's going to be a sensor. That sensor detects when you step on your brake, so if you just step on them lightly, we're going to have a light amount of pressure just helping us to slow down. In an emergency situation when we really have to step on our brakes, it's going to sense that and send power back to accordingly. Now, the benefit of a proportional braking system is that unlike time-delayed systems we don't have to wait for our braking power to go to our trailer.
