  • How to Determine Correct Ball Mount Rise or Drop for Towing a Trailer with a 17 Inch Coupler Height
  • Normally trailer coupler height is around 17 inches, from the ground to the bottom of the coupler, and most hitch manufacturers design their hitches to work with a ball mount that will end up very close to this measurement. I am including a link to an instruction page detailing how to measure for the correct ball mount and how to measure the ball mount. With the Curt Trailer Hitch, item # 13555, for your 2008 Honda CRV the recommended ball mount is the Draw-Tite Ball Mount, item # 2753,...

  • Where to find VIN Number on a Used Utility Trailer
  • Usually commercial trailer manufacturers will indicate the unique vehicle identification number (VIN) on the same plaque that carries their brand name, model number information and the trailer specifications. The model number of the trailer is not the same as the VIN number; the same model number may be used on multiple trailers but a VIN number is unique and individual to each one produced. If you cannot find the VIN on the trailer tongue you can check for plaques on other parts of...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Ram 3500 with Factory Installed 5th Wheel Prep Package
  • There are actually several hitches available now that fit directly into the 2016 Ram factory OEM prep package. There is also an option to use a special adapter if you already have a hitch or if you plan on getting a slider hitch (for short bed trucks). The hitches that fit directly are: # BWRVK3600, rated for 25K # C16545-16021, rated for 24K # C16530-16021, rated for 20K # C16520-16021, rated for 16K, dual jaw # C16515-16021, rated for 16K, slide-bar jaw You can also use adapter...

  • Towing capacity of a 2014 Ford F-150 4x4 SuperCrew 145 Inch Wheelbase 3.5L EcoBoost 3.55 Rear End
  • I looked up the owners manual for the 2014 Ford F-150. On a 4x4 SuperCrew with the 3.5 liter EcoBoost, 145 inch wheelbase, and 3.55 rear end the gross combined weight rating will either by 13,400 pounds (for limited models) or 15,500 pounds. If you subtract the gross vehicle weight rating of 7,200 pounds then the max you can tow will either be 6,200 pounds or 8,300 pounds. Of course if the gross weight of the truck when loaded with cargo, fuel, and occupants is only 6,000 pounds then you...

  • Curt vs. Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Comparison for a 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • The Class II Curt Hitch # C12136 and Class II Draw-Tite Hitch # 36493 for your 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon are very similar, but every Class I and Class II and some Class III Curt Hitches require stabilizing straps to be used when towing non trailer loads. When stabilizing straps are not used on these hitches, the warranty is void and will no longer be covered by Curt. Draw-Tite hitches do not require stabilizing straps to be used on non trailer loads. The Curt and Draw-Tite Hitches have...

  • How to Activate Trailer Lights on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with C55515 Wiring Harness
  • I spoke with my contact at Curt and he said if you have installed the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55515, you will not need to do anything with the fuses to enable the trailer lights. However, you will need to take your vehicle to your Jeep dealer and have them reprogram the Jeep's computer to activate the trailer wiring harness. It will take about 10 minutes.

  • Is a 2 inch or 2-5/16 inch Ball a Standard Size for a Hitch Ball
  • 2 inch or 2-5/16 inch diameter balls are pretty standard sized balls, it is not surprising that the coupler on the 1997 Coleman camper accepts either one of those sizes. For a 2 inch ball I would recommend a Hitch Ball with 2 inch Diameter and Medium Shank, part # 19247. If you need a ball mount as well I would recommend a Ball Mount 2-3/4 inch Rise or 4 inch Drop, part # 2753.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
  • I have attached a link to all of the trailer hitch options we offer for the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The hitch I recommend for your Santa Fe Sport is the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch # C13152 because it will offer you a 2 inch hitch receiver, is rated for higher towing capacities, and has a bit easier install than similar hitches. Keep in mind that your vehicle may be the limiting factor when it comes to towing capacities, but the # C13152 hitch is rated for 900 pounds...

  • How to Properly Set the Tension on the Curt Sway Control Bar # 17200
  • The handle is actually the on/off switch for the unit and the bolt under the handle is the tension adjustment bolt. You will need to turn the On/Off handle clockwise (tighter) until the handle will stay firmly in place parallel with the main body of the sway control. Start out setting the sway control by testing with the adjustment bolt at the factory preset level of friction. You will need to perform a series of road tests with the loaded trailer. If there is not enough sway control...

  • Trailer Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500
  • Dodge introduced a multiplex type of wiring called Powernet starting in 2013. Traditional brake controller harnesses would not work with it. So manufacturers developed a new harness that will work with the Powernet. The dealer may not know of the aftermarket options and the new wiring harnesses developed for use with the Powernet system. But you can very much install an aftermarket one if you want to. If you like Curt brake controller # C51130 then for a 2014 Ram 1500 you will need harness...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2017 Ford F-350 with Factory Prep Package and Reese Revolution Pin Box
  • Since the trailer comes with the Reese Revolution pin box you will need a fixed hitch, not a slider, and a custom wedge to match the hitch. The wedge prevents the trailer from turning at the hitch so that it turns 22 inches further back allowing you to make tight turns without needing a slider. For a hitch that fits directly into the factory prep package on Ford trucks including your 2017 F-350 I recommend the Reese Elite hitch # RP30142. And for a custom wedge use # SWW-01.

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

The hitches available are all Class I hitches though ( # C11422 and # 24949 ) and as such are limited to 2 bikes maximum. • Recommended Hitch for Rear of Fifth Wheel Camper for Bike Rack
  • We do offer some frame mounted RV hitches, which you can see by clicking the provided link. If this distance is between 47-71 inches, the Ultra-Fab # UF35-946403 would be my recommendation. There are a few things to be aware of when using an RV mounted hitch like this: 1) The hitch itself is rated...

  • Trailer Hitch Ball Wrench Size and Torque Rating for 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Ball Shank Size
  • You can have a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball on either a 1 inch or 1-1/4 inch shank. The nut on a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank takes a wrench with a 1-7/8 inch socket. A hitch ball with a 1 inch shank will take a wrench with a 1-1/2 inch socket. You will need to torque all hitch balls with a 1-1/4 inch shank, like 2-51/6 inch hitch ball # A-6, down to 450 ft/lbs. I am including a link to some helpful trailer hitch ball information, if needed.

For the 3.6L V6 with either 4x2 or 4x4 models, the max trailer weight rating is the 6,200 lbs you listed. This will be with or without towing package. You will need to check to see if your bumper fits this description and if it is rated for this application. I recommend going with a frame mount hitch. • Options for a Rear Trailer Receiver Hitch on a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • We have several different options of trailer hitches that are designed to fit the rear of a travel or 5th wheel trailer. However, the hitch that you have pictured will not function on your Prowler 5th wheel trailer. This hitch looks to be a specific fit for a passenger car or truck and not designed to mount on a trailer frame. Depending on the width of your trailer's frame will determine on which hitch will work. If your frame width is 18 to 51 inches wide, then the Curt Adjustable Hitch...

  • Is There a Minimum Hitch Receiver-to-Ground Height Clearance Requirement for Trailer Hitches
  • I am not aware of any legally mandated minimum ground clearance requirement for trailer hitch receivers in any states and my online research did not reveal any such laws. However, I did find on an internet forum for Sienna owners posts related to your exact concern: too little hitch receiver-to-ground clearance. This vehicle simply sits quite low to the ground. Typically the various hitch receivers offered by the major manufacturers will tend to be of fairly similar proportions, which...

  • 5th Wheel Hitch for 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 with RamBox and 6-Foot Bed
  • A short bed truck by itself can pose a challenge for 5th wheel towing due to the limited front-to-back clearance between the truck cab and the trailer's overhang. When we add the Rambox feature we also add another complication: reduced side-to-side clearance. Hitch makers like Reese, Curt and B&W discourage use of 5th wheels in such trucks; that said, there are those that have satisfactorily installed 5th wheels anyway. The best solution for the turning clearance problem in such trucks...

  • How to Extend Trailer Safety Chains that are Too Short to Reach Loops in Hitch Receiver
  • If you want to just add on some sort of extension you can use Safety Chain Quick Link # 49135 which has a working load limit of 3300-lbs. This will give you about 3-inches additional length. Ideally trailer safety chains will be one continuous chain, without additional connection points or extenders. The best solution is to replace your safety chains with new ones of the appropriate rating and length, such as TowReady # TR63035 (sold as a single piece) which is 72-inches long and that...

  • What Does GVWR Mean for a Truck
  • The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), or gross vehicle mass (GVM) is the maximum operating weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo but excluding that of any trailers. Maximum trailer weight rating is the heaviest trailer you can tow. So for your truck the heaviest trailer you can tow would be 8,400 lbs regardless of what hitch you use. So you would not be...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Ram 2500 Short Bed with Factory Prep Package
  • For a 5th wheel hitch that fits directly into the factory 5th wheel prep package in your 2016 Ram 2500 you can use B&W hitch # BWRVK3600. But on a short bed truck even the mounting range of the B&W hitch head might not provide enough clearance to make tight turns safely. What I recommend is to use Demco adapter # DM6099 which fits in the Ram factory prep package. This will act as a base for the Demco HiJacker, # DM8550035, rated for 21,000 pounds. Another benefit is that this hitch slides...

  • Purpose of Curt Stabilizing Strap # 18050

This applies to any non-trailer loads like a bike rack or cargo carrier. Curt has this warranty provision because of the lower tongue weight capacities of Class I and II hitches. The strap prevents any bouncing of the bike rack or other hitch mounted accessory from damaging...
