Note: For applications that have separate lighting, this kit will cause your brake lights to function as both brake and turn signal lights. A wiring converter (118158 - sold separately) and 2 additional diodes (RM-792) will be needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals.

Separate vs. Combined Lighting Systems

Some automobiles operate on a 3-wire system, wherein the brake signal and the turn signals travel along different wires to illuminate different lights. (Typically, these vehicles have amber turn signals.) This is referred to as a "separate lighting system". When you hook up for flat towing using this kit, your towed car's lighting system will operate in a combined fashion regardless of whether it typically has combined or separate lighting. This means that the brake and turn signals sent by your RV to your towed car will be carried on a single wire. As a result, your car's brake lights will do the flashing for the turn signals. Your vehicle will still function as designed when not hooked up to your RV.

Do You Need a Brake Light Relay?

Because this kit wires your vehicle as a combined system, a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if you use a supplemental braking system with your towing setup. A supplemental braking system depresses the brake pedal in your towed car every time you apply the brakes in your RV. So, if your towed car's brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed and the engine is off - as is the case when towing - then you need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed car always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.

2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

First off, I am NOT a mechanic and I especially HATE auto electrical projects. However, I wanted to wire my Jeep to tow behind my motorhome so I ordered the Roadmaster Diode 7 wire to 6 wire wiring kit (RM 15267). While I think it took me longer to install than those with experience, I am happy to say I got it hooked up and working on my first try! The videos that came on my email confirmation were GREAT and really helped my experience. Thanks so much everyone at etrailer for helping make my project successful!

by:
2016 Entegra Coach Aspire Motorhome

The wiring kit was mostly OK. They claimed the wiring supplied was 27' long, however, what I received wasn't even 20' long. I had to made a splice on all wiring leads near the front of the bumper. The diodes and rest of the kit worked as described. Upon testing, there were no issues when hooked up to my rig. I also added the brake light relay and wired it through the supplied harness as well.

Comments
I reached out to Roadmaster and they confirmed the wiring with the kit is 27 feet long.

These were exactly what I needed. I changed tow vehicles to a Honda HRV (manual) and the only base plate available was the Roadmaster. These adapters took about 10 minutes to change my Blue Ox tow bar to accept the Roadmaster.

Jeep

We have towed our Jeep almost 2,000 miles since installing the recommended parts from etrailer and it has worked perfectly on every connect and disconnect along the way. Tows beautifully, even at 70 mph.

Excellent customer service and helpful videos from these folks. Would recommend to anyone needing help with parts and guidance in towing their toad to give them a call.

Comments
Our system is still working perfectly a year later. Our Jeep is a 2018 Cherokee Trailhawk and while we’ve seen some RV forums talk about “death wobble”, we have never experienced this using these Roadmaster products towbar & baseplate. We tow the Jeep with our 39’ Class A gasser and hardly know its back there. Even on sharp corners the Jeep follows perfectly and no binding. Connecting or disconnecting takes maybe 5 – 7 minutes. Then check all of our lights, make sure the Jeep is in neutral wbrakes off and we’re on our way. The braking system that we installed purchased from etrailer is the “Stay-n-Play Duo”. I would recommend that to anyone looking for easy operation. The installation time was a bit lengthy and involved but once completed makes all of your towing trips much easier. Just the flip of a switch and the braking system is ready for towing. No portable unit to lug around and adjust each time you tow your vehicle. The etrailer folks made the perfect recommendations for our needs and everything has worked GREAT!

The product is working very well but we were disappointed that it didn't include a break away cable and safety chains. We had to purchase separately.

by:

When I was ready to place my order, the representative was very helpful, did not rush me, answered all my questions, and dug for more info to ensure that my order included everything. The order was delivered very quickly too. We have had to order one electrical connector that I forgot.

by:

The wiring kit was perfect and everything you need is there. I would have rated it a five, except that the multi-colored length of wire that comes with the kit was just barely--and I mean just barely--long enough for my application. If I had cut the ends even a quarter-of-an-inch shorter I would not have had enough wire to complete the job without splicing additional wire in. My only complaint is that the length of wire that comes in the kit is for small or short cars only. This is the second wiring kit that I bought. The first one was a coupe of years ago and was for a Ford F-150 pickup. In that application the wire was not long enough to run from the front of the pickup to the rear and I had to splice extra wire in to make it work. As long as you know that up front, then the rest of the wiring kit works great and the directions are very good.

Comments
No problems after one year. The contact points are not corroded and everything works great.

The Roadmaster lighting wiring kit contains everything needed to wire your toad for towing. etrailer has model specific detailed step by step installation video that make the job a breeze. Painless!

by:

The wiring kit was installed on a 2020 Jeep JL Sport S. I really appreciate the ordering process and quick shipping of etrailer. The Roadmaster 7-6 wire cable is heavy duty and the coiled design keeps it from dragging on the ground. On the etrailer website there is there is a Q&A segment that has a flowchart to see if you need a brake light relay kit. It states that if you get a brake light with the ignition off you need the kit. I finally learned that the Jeep JL goes to sleep about 5 minutes after the ignition is turned off- so you do not have to use a brake light kit on the Jeep JL.

Comments
We pulled the Jeep several times this year. Installing and removing the cabling was quick and easy. The wiring kit worked well with the brake lights and turn signals working like they should. Installation was made easier after watching the videos

2016 Jeep Wrangler

Towbar wiring system arrived within 4 days of placing my order. This 7 to 6 wire system is an upgrade to the simpler 4 wire plugs I've used in the past and will allow me to add on a battery charge line or brake system later on. The demonstration video was indispensable in hooking up the wiring and diodes. Though running and connecting the wiring does take longer than a 10 minute video. Now I can tow my 2016 Jeep Wrangler behind my RV.

by:

System has been working fine, routing the wires was easy enough. Getting the crimp on spade terminals to hold onto the tiny OEM wires was a challenge. Would be nice if they included some 24/26 gage terminals for the OEM side.

by:

product was as stated on web site and it also included the installation instructions. I will double check the tow vehicle wiring plug to verify if it is a separate or combination system per the instructions. I give it a 4 star rating because if the brake system is separate I have to purchase another device which will delay my install.

by:

What can you say about a wiring kit everything was there it hooked up easy was a plug and play with sort of situation so it worked out fine I can't complain about it at all

by:

There was not enough wire to
run the
jumper and the plastic six pin female connector broke off when used for the first time. Be sure to double check your vehicle wiring as it does not always match up to the diagram provided.

by:

Tammie was the best sales person I have ever talked to. She went out of her way to get me my parts as soon as possible even though there was a 8week wait. With here help we can now get on the road as planned and have all the safest equipment to tow our Colorado. Another big thanks to Tammie and etrailer for the great surface.

by:

Easy install, instructions were clear. I had the wiring completed at a rv shop, if I had my lift available I would have done the work myself.

by:

My project on 2021 Ford Ranger includes the tow bar, base plates, wiring harness, supplemental brake system with break- away switch and rv brake warning and brake relay. Every component is the highest quality, fit perfectly and works exactly as it should. The written instructions were very good for this complex assembly but the saving grace was all the excellent instructional videos detailing the work. One of the box’s damaged in shipping was missing parts that were quickly replaced in just a few days. Great products and great support.

by:

etrailer is a fantastic supplier. They ship quickly and are attentive to issues or returns. I couldn't be happier with their service.

by:

Les diodes sont grosses un peu et pour les mettre près des lumières c'est difficile, mais ca fonctionne très bien. Merci ETRAILER

Jeep Wrangler

I ordered this wire harness for my 2021 jeep wrangler. It arrived on time and was an easy install. I'd checked out [online] videos and together with the instructions provided managed just fine. Thanks etrailer!

by:
2012 Ford Edge

I ordered this kit to get me a heavy duty coiled cable with room to use one input as a dedicated power supply from the bus to then be sent to the towed battery to keep it charged going down the road.
the diodes i chose not to use, as i have a hopkins plug and play kit on the way, that will marry up the 6 pin fitting
I just needed the cable with the 7 to 6 adapters, it was the best price for the need :)

2021 Jeep Wrangler

As a product development engineer, i know the challenges in designing aftermarket products that perform to expectations and are competitively priced. The five Roadmaster products that I’ve purchased and installed have been very well thought out, manufactured without defects, fit with OEM chassis has been excellent, packed and shipped without damage to the items and priced reasonably. Specifically, these items are a Falcon 2 tow bar, base plates for a 2017 Fiat 500 and a 2021 Jeep Rubicon, and their associated brake & stop light wiring kits.

I am not sure what you are using for tow bar wiring on your 2011 Ford Ranger, but we have kits that are designed for exactly what you are looking for. To do this you would basically use the lights of the vehicle that control the running lights and the brighter stop lights instead of trying to use the separate turns signals. This will operate the stop lights like a combined circuit and will work great. I attached a diagram that shows how to do this. Check out "option...
