Best Flat Towing Setup for a 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid

Updated 11/02/2025 | Published 09/11/2025

Question:

Jerred, Is there a Roadmaster package option you would recommend for the same setup (2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD)? Is one more preferred over the other (easier install/less issues)? I think we were under the impression (apparently incorrectly) we had to only have Blue Ox or Roadmaster and we couldn't mix and match. Are the clevis on the tow bars specific for the baseplate or is there a one clevis fits all option? We are thinking we would prefer the permanently installed brake systems (Roadmaster Invisibrake or Demco Stay and Play) rather than the store and remove systems. Is there one you would recommend with the 2025 Ford Maverick? Thank you again for all the assistance helping us through this purchase process.

Hey Shawn! You can definitely mix and match manufacturer's when setting up a flat tow. The one major thing you really have to pay attention to is the compatibility of the tow bars with the baseplates. You can mix up brands but they have to have the correct ends to connect to the baseplate if you do. Since you have a brand new 2025 Maverick, I highly recommend a permanently installed braking system. The one time in-depth installation is far easier than repeatedly having to setup and break down a portable braking system.

Here are the best parts to flat tow your 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates item # e74ZR

Baseplate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - item # RM87NQ

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-15267

Charge Line - Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-156-25

Supplemental Braking System - SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System item # SM99251 or item # SM99243 if your motorhome has air brakes

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.

What motorhome are you going to be using?

Truly appreciate the candid responses. The information is extremely helpful in making these expensive purchases. We have a 2023 Tiffin Wayfarer 25RW (we love it; why we need a lightweight flat tow vehicle).

@ShawnG You're welcome! Glad I could help. Since you're using a class C motorhome you'll definitely want to go with the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System item # SM99251.

2023 Tiffin Wayfarer (MB Sprinter 3500) towing a 2025 Ford Maverick. I am going with your recommeded Baseplate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - item # RM87NQ. I am using the Roadmaster Nighthawk RM-676 tow bar. I want to get the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screen for Towed Vehicles, but I've read conflicting information about which one to purchase with my setup - the RM-4700 or the RM-4750? Please provide clarification. Thanks in advance!

@ShawnG Since you're going with the Roadmaster Direct Connect item # RM87NQ and the Roadmaster Nighthawk item # RM-676, you will need the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screen item # RM-4750. This ones designed for Roadmaster RV-mounted tow bars with direct connect base plates.
