Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit Installation - 2014 Ford Edge

Shane: Hi I'm Shane with etrailer dot com. Today we're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to show you how to install the Hopkins Simple Plug in Vehicle Wiring Harness for Towed Vehicles. What this is going to allow us to do, it's going to allow us to run all of, or transfer all of our light signals from our RV through to our towed vehicle, while we're traveling. What's different about this one, is it's going to be a simple plug in. It's going to plug directly in to your factory wiring. It's going to have a converter box that already has built in diodes.

Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit Installation - 2017 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford Edge, you're going to be taking a look at and I'm going to show you how I installed the Roadmaster 4 diode universal wiring kit for towed vehicles with seven wire to six wire straight cord, part number RM-152-98146-7.First thing I want to talk to you about is what the diodes do. Diodes are going to be connected to the factory wiring on your towed vehicle. They're going to protect your vehicle from any feedback from your RV. Because your RV or your towed vehicle is getting that signal from your RV, that power is running through wires to your towed vehicle's lights. Those diodes are going to stop any feedback, any shorts or anything like that from your RV getting into the factory wiring on your car, in turn protecting it.This wiring kit's going to be one of five main components in a flat towed set up. The other four are going to be your base plate, your tow bar, your safety cables, and your braking system.

Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit Installation - 2016 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today on this 2016 Ford Edge, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins custom taillight wiring kit for towed vehicles, part number HM56011.Here's what it looks like with our towed vehicle wiring installed. We have our brake lights running right now and you can see that it's utilizing our factory brake light and turn signal on our vehicle. Also, what's great about this is that this plugs into our vehicle's existing wiring with no cutting or splicing required. So we don't need to worry about voiding the warranty on our new vehicle. Another great feature about this wiring harness is that there's diodes built into it. So we don't have to worry about power from our motor home going to our lights and then being backfed into our vehicle's expensive electrical components.

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford Edge Sport we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins Custom tail light wiring kit for towed vehicles, part number HM56011. What this wiring harness is going to do, it's going to give you all the proper lighting functions for your towed vehicle, your turn signals, your brake lights, your running lights and your ground. What's good about this wiring harness, it's going to hook directly into your factory tail lights and wiring. You're not going to have to make any splices, and it's going to have a diode kit, which means if you have a wiring issue in your RV, the diode kit is going to protect your factory wiring in your vehicle from getting damaged, and vice versa. Now let's go over the five main components of our flat tow set up on our Ford Edge. Here we're going to have the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain tow bar, which is going to come with your safety cables, the Roadmaster EZ4 base plate, the Air Force One braking system, and the Hopkins custom fit towed vehicle wiring. The first thing we need to do to start our installation, we need to remove both of our tail lights. Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today on our 2008 Ford Edge we're gonna take a look at and show you how to install the Hopkins custom taillight wiring kit for towed vehicles, part number is HM56000. Now a towed vehicle wiring harness is gonna be the perfect solution for enabling you to plug your motor home into the front of your vehicle and the lights work on the back so we can stay legal and have the signals we need. Now when the motor home sends the signal in it's gonna run through the wiring harness and to our diode converter. Here it's gonna be converted into a usable signal that our vehicle will recognize and operate the lights for us. We've got T connector harnesses that are gonna plug directly in to our factory connectors for the drivers side here and also for the passengers side so there's no splicing or cutting of our vehicle's wiring harness required. Now the diode harness is a very nice feature to have, this is gonna allow us to separate the two vehicle wiring systems. As we're using our car's lighting system we're not gonna have any back feed going up to our motor home plug area and when we're using our motor home signal as those signals come in they're not gonna be looped around and then sent into the vehicle system. It's a great way to protect our vehicle, our motor home to keep everything isolated at the same time. Now to get our harness installed we're gonna take off the taillight housings on each side, we'll use an eight millimeter socket and we want to take out the two screws that hold the housing in place.

What this will allow us to do is safely and legally flat tow our Ford Edge behind our motor home without having to worry about having any magnetic tow lights on the back of our vehicle. This will use your vehicle's existing factory brake light and tail light bulbs, so you don't have to worry about having anything additional added to the vehicle. This is a simple plug and play wiring harness. There is no cutting or splicing required to your vehicles wiring at all. It simply plugs right in line between your tail light assemblies and your factory wiring harness, giving you the necessary turn signals, brake lights, and running lights that you need to be legal and safe. Our white wire here will provide the necessary ground connection between our motor home and our Ford Edge.

Roadmaster Universal Diode Wiring Kit Installation - 2014 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today in our 2014 Ford Edge, we'll be having a look at and installing the road master universal high powered diode wiring kit, part number RM-152. With our diodes installed behind our tail lights on our Edge, when we're flat towing our vehicle behind our motor home we can use the vehicles existing tail lights and brake lights without having to worry about having magnetic tow lights installed in the vehicle or drilling into our tail light assemblies and using an additional bulb and socket. We'll be able to utilize what's already on the vehicle from the factory. Now what's great about the diodes, they only allow electricity to flow in one direction, so when we're having the vehicle being towed behind the RV, we don't have to worry about any voltage being back fed into our vehicle's expensive electronic systems causing damage. This will protect our vehicle's components and utilize the bulbs that are already in place. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. And to being our install, we'll show you where we have routed our four way flat wiring right here.
