Recommended Complete Flat Towing Setup for a 2024 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Greetings. Im new to RVng and we have a 2024 Thor Axis and plan to tow a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Were considering purchasing the Roadmaster Nighthawk but not quite sure as to what we need to purchase for using the Jeeps braking/turn signals several options and which braking system would be better/easier to install. Thanks in advance. Christian

Hey Christian, welcome to the world of RV-ing! So in addition to the Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676 you're also goin to need:

- A baseplate kit, like the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521453-5. These attach to the Jeep itself so you can hook up the tow bars.

- A braking system, like the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes # SM99251 with the stop light switch # RM-751490. This braking system is a bit more involved set-up wise, but once it's installed you never have to worry about it again.

&

- A wiring kit, like the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267, diode kits # RM47ZR if you have the ParkSense feature.

Please feel free to drop a comment and let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

Greetings Bryce; Looked at the Jeep and it seems we don't have Parksense (no button and not in the VIN lookup). We have a new bumper that has the Nighthawk connectors. Thus, it seems we need the flat tow brake (permanent or portable -- still deciding), and the wiring kit. For the wiring kit, the Nighthawk already has the cable for RV to vehicle, is there a wiring kit w/o the cable? Thanks in advance. Christian.

@ChrisP Cool! So I'd recommend going with a permanent braking system like I mentioned above just because I'm a guy who likes to "set it and forget it", which is essentially what a permanent system is. The portable systems require setup every time, cost similar enough in my opinion, and you can't drive your toad when it's installed without uninstalling it. Since you already have what sounds like a base plate, then you can forget about that as well as the diode kit for the ParkSense feature. You'll just need the wiring kit # RM-154 which does not have the cable the Nighthawk already has, but it has everything else. If I can do something else for you, please feel free to let me know!

@BryceD I'm in the process of adding all of the items to the shopping cart and I realized that the diode kit has a flat (4 wire) connector while the Roadmaster has a round (six wire) connector. Is there an adapter, e.g. six to four, or a wiring kit with the round (six) connector? thanks in advance.

@ChrisP Hey Chris, there isn't an adapter needed because the diode kit # RM47ZR and the Roadmaster kit # RM-15267 get installed in different places.
