Currently using one friction sway bar. On our last trip I experienced sway on our 30’ trailer due to gusty crosswinds. Adding additional bar to correct issue. ETRAILER had what I needed as they usually do, with expert advice also.

Using the second sway bar is working well. Perfect solution to eliminate excessive sway.

by:

Have waited until after a couple of trips to evaluate this Sway control product. VERY pleased at the additional control over the Sway caused when tractor-trailers pass by. Virtually eliminated. Installation instructions were OK, but drilling the holes did require some work. Most would probably have a trailer place do it for them.

by:

Got the friction sway control mounted and ready to try for an upcoming trip. Already have the Reese dual cam so this will just be added control.

by:

This sway control kit was easy to install and worked extremely well with our 22FB Airstream. Now when big trucks pass the rig is rock solid. Great customer service and shipping.

by:

Sway controller fit perfectly on our vintage Airstream. Easy to install

by:

I bought the pro series anti sway kit for our 5000lb horse trailer because the trailer would begin oscillating sometimes when speeds were higher than about 50mph. The damper kit solved the problem I drove it up to 75mph after installing the kit and adjusting the drag according to the instructions. Installation was easy and the instructions were great. The quality was excellent. All the pieces we're included.

by:

I haven't installed the items on my RV yet, however removed them from the package and they look great. I received the products in only 2 days, and they were packaged perfectly. This is my 2nd order from etrailer and I am 100% satisfied and would recommend them to anyone.

by:

It does what it is intended for.

by:

Just came in, everything looks good and I don’t see any installation issues. Shipping was great as always etrailer is the only place to get you towing stuff.

by:

Shipping was fast and quality products

by:

Works great

by:

Works GREAT to reduce sway which is important as I’m pulling a trailer that’s a bit long for my SUV. First time I towed it home without the sway bar and felt every little breeze and got sway anytime I went over 60mph. This bar has totally changed that and made me MUCH more comfortable towing - thank you!

by:

Product just as expected.

by:

can't live without this and a small trailer necessary item... is also weight distribution!

A fabulous alternative to the large trailer swaydistribution bar. Keeps tongue weight down and works FABULOUSLY! Dandy item and what eTrailer is ALL about. Safe, easy to install and worth it.

by:

Towed my travel trailer without an anti-sway device and when tractor trailers passed me the sway made me nervous. Installed this and towed my travel trailer, sway reduced immediately. Awesome product from Reese.

by:

I’m so glad we purchased this and installed the day before our trip! What an amazing difference it made. Towing my trailer was tighter and no “wobbles” going over bumps! The sway bar was super easy to install and made for a much better ride for my recent road trip!!

by:

Thank you, packing was the best

by:

Seems pretty solid & a direct fit for the 1 I replaced. Last 1 busted as the threads on the adjustment lever stripped. Shipping was lightning fast!

by:

Easy unit to install on our 16' Scamp. On the first trip I noticed the difference immediately at higher speeds. Easy to take off when you get to camp and are about to back into the space.

by:

Recieved the stabilizer & I can’t wait for my next road trip. Bought it to eliminate sway when our Scamp is loaded & bike rack on the rear of the trailer.

by:

I think the Reese Friction Control Bar is quite effective in reducing the sway. The only criticism that I have is the grinding/groaning noise it makes when making turns. I haven't been successful adjusting the tension, as recommended in instructions, to eliminate this prtoblem despite repeated attempts. Also, earlier during the installation process I had contacted customer service with a couple of questions, but did not receives a response.

by:

I am yet to install the unit, but it arrived as described, and e-trailers was fantastic to work with.

by:

Purchased from etrailer super fast delivery and great price. Easy install. Excellent customer service, communication, and follow-up. Will use etrailer for my source of other needed products in the future.

by:

It has worked well for every trip including interstate and roads through the mountains

Still completely happy with the performance. Trailer very stable towing under all conditions Great product

by:

If you already have a Pro Series weight distributing hitch (WDH) this is the stablilizer that goes with it and I am sure that it is acceptible for use with other manufacturers of WDHs. Installation is very easy following the single page of instructions; mark where you need to mount the plate on the trailer frame, drill six pilot holes, bolt the plate down and install the ball on the hitch and you are good to go. My Pro Series WDH came with one stabilizer, but after one long trip with high cross winds and heavily rutted roads I decided that I needed two stablilzers for my 32' long travel trailer as is reccomended here for any trailer over 26' length. These stabilizers, while simple in design, get the job done.

Matt

After one year of use and thousands of miles two stabilizers on a long trailer is the only way to go. Finding the correct amount of friction is still somewhat of a guessing game, but the units are still working great and making the task of towing such a long travel trailer much more manageable.

  • What Weight Rating is Needed for Sway Control Bar on 9,000 Pound 27 Foot Long Trailer
When it comes to a sway control bar like the # 83660 Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, there is no weight rating. Since you have a trailer length of 27' the # 83660 is what you are looking for. This unit dampens trailer sway caused by crosswinds and traffic for improved stability and increased towing safety. You are also correct that two are recommended since your GTW is over 6,000 lbs. You will want to install one on the driver side and one on the passenger side. I have attached a video...

  • Can Reese Friction Sway Control be Used with 2-5/16 inch Hitch Ball
The sway control bracket part # 26003 does require a 1 inch shank hitch ball which we have in this size for a 2-5/16 inch ball # C40007 that would work to allow you to use the Reese friction sway control part # 83360. If Audi is adamant you can't use a WD system I would highly recommend not continuing to do so as well. This will cause damage most likely.

  • Can Friction Sway Control Be Added To Small Travel Trailer Without Weight Distribution Hitch?
You sure can! You would just mount either the Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 or Reese Friction Sway Control # 83660 to the frame of your Travel Trailer. You will then add the Reese Sway-Control Bracket # RP26003 to your ball mount if you have a 2" trailer hitch receiver, or # RP26005 if you have a 1-1/4" trailer hitch receiver. I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.

  • Does 2013 Toyota Highlander Require Sway Control When Towing Trailer
A sway control requirement when towing a trailer isn't a standard requirement but if the owners manual of your 2013 Toyota Highlander does state you need it when towing 3,000 lbs or more then you do need to use a kit like the part # 83660.

  • Can Friction Sway Control be Used with Reese Weight Distribution RE44FR
You can add a friction sway control to the Reese weight distribution system part # RE44FR with the Reese unit part # 83660 as there is a tab for the ball of this kit on either side of the head. The # RE44FR does have a tongue weight range of 600 to 1,150 lbs which by the time your trailer is loaded should be fine as yours would most likely be above 600. Now since you said it rode fine I would say that's the true test that you are okay. Normally if you use a WD system that is rated too...

  • Troubleshooting Surge Brake Boat Trailer that Makes Slamming Sound When Hitting Bumps
Is your trailer sitting as level as possible? Sounds like it could be sitting possibly nose high and combined maybe with a bit of play in the ball mount is creating the slamming you are experiencing. It's also possible your surge actuator has a bad shock and the bump is causing the actuator to apply and release the brakes quickly which is causing what you described. If you can push in on the front of the actuator you should be able to see the actuator somewhat slowly rebound to the fully...

  • Can Reese Sway Control Be Mounted on Either Side of Trailer Tongue
We actually get this question quite a bit. The Reese Friction Sway Control # 83660 can be installed on either side of the trailer tongue so there really isn't a left or right hand side for it. It will need to be installed upside down.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Camper Currently Using 10000lb GTW 1000lb TW System
The information stamped on your trailer tongue is the maximum capacity of the coupler, not the actual tongue weight of the trailer. In order to choose the weight distribution that'll work best for you, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear stowed in the cargo area of the SUV or truck bed behind the rear axle. I've linked to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. These combined figures...

In order to use a weight distribution such as # PS49583 with sway control like # 83660 you would have to have steel plates welded to the trailer frame by a qualified professional to box it out in the areas where the brackets would attach to the trailer. This is the only way you will be able to use weight distribution and sway control given the unique design of the trailer frame. I have included a couple of links on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.

  • Is Sway Control Needed with a Weight Distribution System
Not all weight distribution systems come with sway control. Sway control is usually a good idea, but if you do not experience much sway when you are towing, then you do not need to add it. If you want to add sway control, then you may be interested in the Friction Sway Control Kit, # 83660. I may have a solution for you but a hitch stabilizer like the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 is not designed to reduce rpms and save fuel. The purpose behind the # 83660 is to reduce trailer sway caused by winds, curving roads or sudden maneuvers for improved stability and increased towing safety. You can certainly use the Reese # 83660 sway control kit on both sides of your trailer A-frame. There's a couple of ways to do this, but the most simple way would be to use your existing ball mount, and have a # C45822 sway control tab welded on both sides of the ball mount. You can over-tighten the adjustment screw. Various road conditions dictate how the friction control should be set.
